Could easily have 4 points already but Aku and Pyörälä couldn't score.

His points from today so far:

One thing I can't understand. Their first names are short, as is their last name. Is there a rule that says you can't put "AATU RÄTY" and "AKU RÄTY" on their backs. That would make a lot more sense than "AA. RÄTY" and "AK. RÄTY".

Or pretend you are a Brazilian footsy player, and just put the first name to back. AKU & AATU. Epic.

So impressed of Aatu and Aku in their first two matches. I wish Aatu would use his shot more in powerplays although his playmaking skill seems fantastic.

Generally it feels absurd how dangerous their line was especially in their second men's match. And Aatu is practically two full seasons from the draft.

Watched the match live today. No points for Aatu. Couple of thoughts:

- Physically he is ready to play in Liiga. This was shown in many 1on1 battles where he was well able to fight for the puck

- With the puck he sees the game very well. In the first period he gave a great assist to Heshka for a fantastic chance. This was also shown on powerplays where the other team was very carefully covering the passing lines when Aatu was orchestrating the PP. This led to situations where Aatu had room for himself to shoot.

- Without the puck he seems smart in terms of finding the right open spot for receiving the pass. Therefore he is able to stay in the core of the game

- Understandably he needs more power overall to be faster and have a quicker release on his shot. However, it is remarkable that he can play as a center right way in a professional league which tells he is not a bad skater today

He seemed a bit frustrated after the PP in the third period where he was able to shoot in the slot twice. I think he knows he can produce numbers in Liiga already.

He's being wasted in the fourth line. Played only ~11 minutes again today, which is barely nothing. Still managed to shoot six times. Not only that but Sailio isn't exactly the best possible line mate and his brother Aku is also still figuring things out. Aatu has been by far the best of the punch in the past games and he's been making things happen most of the times he's been on the ice. Being elected as the best player against Ilves apparently earned no rewards. I'm not sure what their plan is with this kid but being used in the 4th line is hardly doing him any favours. Oh well, still 3 points in 3 games.

I agree with everything here. He has been VERY impressive, especially for his age. I don't think I have seen a 16 year ever play at this level in Liiga before. Well maybe Barkov, but to my recollection he started really dominating only the next season, not so much his 16-17 year old season. Very interesting to see where Räty will get when he physically develops and gets more strength and explosiveness. He definitely looks like one of the best talents Finland has ever had at this age.

I like it especially that he has great hands, but doesn't still hold on to the puck too long, and he is very much into quick passes and also shooting right away if he gets a chance. Seems like an extremely high hockey IQ player to me.

He is simply really smart and those killer instincts. His skill is indeniable but his smarts and willingness to win are his best traits. Maybe the most impressive drive I've ever seen from Finnish prospect. He also trusts his skills at mens level and doesn't fear to show his emotions.

I would like your post and a couple of others on this page, but got my like button removed for a while for commenting about Wheeler’s bad leadership on the Jets site. Anyway I agree with you 100%.

Hope you'll get back your like button. :D

It's pretty extraordinary how bad Säiliö is. How are you supposed to accomplish anything playing next to such an offensive black hole? I hope he's not stuck there for long.

Oh and also, he's outgrown Aku Räty and they need to promote Aatu soon so that his development isn't halted.

IMO he's ready for 16min, 2nd line ice time.

Barkov put up 48 points at the same age.

Well that is in fact correct. I mixed up Barkov for an early birthday like Kakko is. Still if I move the goalposts a bit, I’m kind of still right, as when talking about a -1 year draft player Räty looks like the best Finn I have seen. And even literally I was kind of right, as I said I haven’t seen a 16 year old play so good in Liiga before. Barkov had just turned 17 before his monster Liiga season started in 2012. ;)

I would be in fact very interested to see how Pulju and the Räty brothers would do in the same line. I have a feeling it could even work really well. At least I think it would be worth of trying. Pulju would bring much more strength, size and skill compared to Sailio. And right now it seems like Pulju gets a bit wrongly used with a center like Lammikko who isn’t really a good playmaker, although he is very good with battles and puck control for Liiga, but still I don't see the playmaking skills that would be good in using Pulju better.

Yeah, I actually know how that would work. Scoring chances for the opponent in every shift. There's a reason why Räty is playing in the fourth-line...Manner would like to win games, not to boost ridiculous Finnish hype-train for 1st overall in Hfboards.

This makes zero sense. They need a mentor-type, defensively responsible player with them, not a man child who needs babysitting himself. And considering that Sailio is a gritty grinder, saying Puljujärvi brings more strength and size is odd especially as we know Puljujärvi doesn't use his at all. Keep him as far away from Aatu as far as I'm concerned.

Old school number 1.

Old school number 2. Btw, start watching Pulju’s play. He has used his body pretty well in fact in Liiga games. Better than practically any other Kärpät player this season, except probably Lammikko. You seriously don't understand what many things mean. Size means reach and weight together mostly. Pulju has alot more reach and weight than Sailio. And do you know that Sailio is really a midget - only 179 cm and 84 kg heavy. Your kind of old school views are exactly the ones that bring no innovation to hockey.

You have the full season to play defence first, but if you don't occasionally try other things you are a plain rigid and stubborn coach. The best coaches dare to make some experimenting during the season, especially with such good roster that Kärpät has in Liiga.

And btw, learn to read, as I never claimed that it would for sure work with Pulju and the Räty’s, but I would still like to see courageous experimenting occasionally from the coaches. Sometimes they can work even well, although some people condemn those more courageous thoughts beforehand.

I'd like to see Räty brothers play with Jasper Lindsten. He showed last season with us that he's more than a capable two-way-winger and he's far from a offensive black-hole like Sailio. Lindsten is also fairly young but still quite experienced in the Liiga for his age so he might have a good chemistry with the teenagers.

As for Jari Sailio, he was a good signing for us and played his role 100%. Now though when we have world-class talents ready to take the step to the men's league, his time as a regular starter with Kärpät should be over.

Puljujärvi with a 16-year-old rookie center and an 18-year-old rookie winger is a horrible idea. Imagine them playing against any line of Tappara, TPS or HIFK. Massacre.

Maybe try them together in power-play though? Couldn't hurt as our pp is absolutely horrible.

My forward lines for Kärpät when everyone's available:

Pyörälä - Lammikko - Puljujärvi

Jokinen - Kristof - Pesonen

Lindsten - AA.Räty - Ak.Räty

Hermonen - Koskenkorva - Karvinen

(Koblizek* - Humaloja - Anttila)

I pretty bummed there's no room for Tuukka Tieksola who is clearly too good for Jr A. Maybe a loan to other Liiga team or Mestis?

* He's a top-6 material if he gets his shit together. Right now he should be in the pressbox for at least a few games.
