Would the Knights love to have Carter George? Sure, who wouldn't?
At this point, they don't have the assets to trade for him, and OS fans say he won't be traded.
Owen Sound could be a little scary in the playoffs, but the real threat would be if he gets traded to a competitor.
Parsons would be a nice add, but swapping an OA for an OA wouldn't likely happen at this point. It should have happened instead of trading for Elliott.
London should be done trading, unless Luchanko comes as 2nd part of the Guelph deal when the trading window for 16 year olds opens up. I personally hope not though.

I predict Musty to Erie, Luchanko to Barrie, and Parsons and George stay put. Oshawa could use Gibson but doubt they have enough left to get him?

George isn't for sale and especially not to London. I think it'd be hard enough for the fans to stomach trading him this season, let alone to the team we dislike the most.

It's a conversation for next year. Owen Sound is in real tough to even make the playoffs this season, and the team is weak enough that even George channeling the spirits of the greatest OHL goalies in the playoffs won't be enough for an upset.

As a Kitchener fan, I hope you're correct. I've always found the most enjoyable seasons are when the small market teams are strong.

With such a dearth in goaltending, this is the opportunity for Owen sound to make out like bandits with George. So many contenders wasting a spot on an OA goalie. The only truly viable non-OA goalie that could potentially be available is George. The ability for the acquiring team to flip him next year is also advantageous even if the initial acquisition cost is high. There is a possibility that an acquiring team that currently is using an OA slot on a goalie could acquire George AND a high end OA for marginally more than the cost of the 19 year old skater. And, if you factor in the return next year, the cost could be significantly less int he aggregate.

There's obviously an asset case to be made for George since even I've brought it up on the Attack board, but there's no history to suggest DeGray would ever entertain that, no indication the owners or fans would stomach it, and because of the defrayed acquisition cost for the team looking at getting George, means the price would be astronomical. Even with two decent looking goalies on the roster currently, it's such a huge step down from George that the team gives up any real pretense of being back in the mix next season.

Plus, there would be a 0% chance he's traded to a Western conference team where he'd have to play against the Attack more than twice ever again. The optics would be horrific. That leaves very few potential buyers that have the dry powder to make such a move.

Between the limited teams that wouldn't cause a huge uproar from the fans, and the Eastern teams that have the assets to even make a move like that, it's purely a hypothetical move and not happening this year.

Just curious why the optics are terrible? The team is 9-18, it's not like they're trading him during a competitive window. I would think the optics of not trading him would be worse, unless the team is expecting a big improvement next season?
And it's not like they didn't trade Hancock, Suzuki and Durzi to divisional rivals in the same season. OS and London have made quite a few mutually beneficial trades over the years.
That being said, he's not coming to London this year.

It's debated annually on the Attack board but there's the thought that the team strives to be competitive and make the playoffs every year. That kind of ended with the 30-win-per season streak last year, but logically the smallest team in the league with the same types of operating expenses as the other teams appreciates the revenue from a consistently competitive team during the season, and the playoff revenue from even a few playoff games.

George is an incredibly popular player in Owen Sound, arguably the best goalie we've ever had (and we've had a lot of good ones over the years), and he's 100% coming back next season. The fans would be furious to see him go, and short of a team paying some ungodly sum of high end youngsters and picks, would be real difficult for DeGray to sell to the fans and ownership.

Next year the Attack go from a very young and inexperienced team to a team that's back on the rise. George is going to be at his peak and with even a decent team in front of him could finally win a playoff round again.

The Attack have of course traded even beloved players to division rivals, but the three you've mentioned are part of a pretty short list and they were all 100% not returning the next season. The Attack as far as I know have never traded a player likely to return to the Knights.

I'd say it's far more likely George plays his last game of junior in an Attack uniform in the spring of 2026 than any other scenario.

you’d get the same return next year that you would this year

You think? If you use the Leenders deal as the comparable, I doubt you’d get a Leenders type return for George next year. Of course, it will depend a lot on the Goalie landscape but it is tough to think George would be traded for same next year if the Leenders benchmark is what his worth is this year.

That said, trading the 18 year old elite players really only hedges against the possibility of graduation. It really worked out well for the 67’s with Konecny but did Mississauga make out significantly better than Peterborough did when they moved Beck the following year? Aiden Young vs JVV with the only difference in pick being the 4th and maybe a slight shuffle in years of the picks…. So I can understand your point.

My point is this year with such a dearth in goaltending, his value may be intrinsically higher. If a team like Kingston needs a goalie and are currently using an OA slot on Lalonde, even if they had to pay a Leenders type price, they could open up that OA slot and fill a second gap with an OA. Strategically speaking, for Kingston that would make sense (assuming they had the right assets to make the deal). Hell, Kingston needs the D-Man, they could move Lalonde, players, picks for George and K.Smith and fill two gaps in one trade. OS gets the assets in hand now to use as required.

This is not true, OA goalies are not worth much, even the really good ones!
Really…..? George is 18

if Rehkopf is worth 10 picks for a season, what’s a goalie line George worth for a season and a half, 15 picks?

Goalies have traditionally been worth less than skaters but I think Leenders is the comp. You have that right there this season. Comparable to Rehkopf as a one year rental.

The point for the buying team is for the same price (or similar) you pay for an impact 19 year old, you get the impact 18 year old goalie. Ditch your low performing OA goalie, acquire the OA skater to replace that roster spot (2nd, 3rd, 5th) and you fill two holes for slightly more than it would cost for the one skater.

I understand the selling team may not be in a position to WANT to sell but if they were, then it makes sense. If OS is selling him next year anyway… take the assets now while the iron is hot. If goaltending is satisfactory next year and there is less of a need league wide (aka the league decides to change the OA rules and allows teams to roster an OA goalie and not have it count towards the 3 OA allotment) then the market for George next year may be desert dry.

There are viable scenario’s that make sense for OS, especially if they like their younger goalies already in their pipeline. They will likely move K.Smith so they can take an OA goalie back this year and remain stable enough in net.

With Cali signing, I think it puts an exclamation mark on defected players this year.

Brantford has the rights to Malhotra. Kitchener has Valentini. Both teams are in a position to be buyers. That’s potentially two huge bullets in their chambers! Both of those bullets coat next to nothing in conditional picks yet their value as trade chips are immense if teams think they will jump ship and sign like Cali just did.

Rangers may be in a position to buy. But the popular opinion among Ranger faithful is to stand pat at best if not soft sell.

But one thing I think we can be sure of:
Valentini won’t be used as a trade chip. If he makes the jump, the plan is he’ll play in Ranger blue.

Kitchener continues to be in a position where they overperform, they're impressive under Jussi. I know they needed assets/picks, but wonder if they had held onto Rehkopf to the deadline how the buy/sell conversations would go.

We wouldn’t be buying because our cupboard was completely empty. Especially after the Valentini trade. If not for the Rehkopf trade, we’d have zero 2nds, 3rds, 4ths from now til 2029.

IMO Jussi is the best coach in the league. He won't last long here. Gets absolutely everything out his players and they operate like a well oiled machine. Some pro team will scoop him up soon.

My apologies if already posted earlier. When is the trade freeze from-til?

19th to the 29th but I am not sure the times that are applied to the freeze. So, at some point today, the freezer takes effect but I am not sure what that time is.

The Attack currently have 4 OA and recently signed an 18 yr old goalie .

Just curious where you see an OA goalie benefiting them this season ?

Hint : Carter George has scored more goals recently than half their roster .
