EPRinkside did their EU UDFA writeup:

Hardy Häman Aktell
Grigori Dronov
Anton Lindholm (ex-Av farm hand)

... are all in the defensive D side of things.

LeBrun mentioned on Insider Trading that Columbus is willing to move their LA 1st round draft pick for a top 4 defenseman (to replace Gavrikov).

Adam's doesn't have a 1st round pick he's willing to trade and not willing to sign big in FA. I think we need to accept that our D is not changing for next year.

(Islanders gave up 13th oa to get Romanov. Not sure what kind of top 4 D Columbus is going to get with a lower pick.)

If they end up drafting 11-15 and are going to miss out on Reinbacher (not that he's a true sure-fire top-4 D but he's the best option), then KA absolutely has to have a trade lined up to send that 1st out for somebody. This is a rare time when I think they should be prepared to overpay for the player that fits.

Sea and LA might not want to trade Borgen or Roy, but do they really both turn down a 2023 13th pick if it's offered up? It's time for a can't refuse offer...horsehead in the sheets if necessary.

If Adams tries to run back this same budget team this summer, I'm moving to Buffalo with a mobile Pitchfork and Torch store to park outside Keybank.

You see about some of the younger UFAs like Clifton, look at stop gaps on relatively short contracts like Orlov / Mayfield, see what teams are up against the cap that need to move players on the cheap. There should be plenty of options that don't require overpaying in assets except money

Maybe? A first for Borgen? We've reached new lows...
There are definitely other options, but I'm just worn out with stop gaps and reclamation projects. That isn't who KA should go after for a 2nd pair guy, And yeah, a 1st for Borgen is overpaying, but he's near the top of the list for good defensive and physical RHDs. I would overpay for a guy that fits what they need, although it doesn't have to be a 2023 1st for Borgen. Point is, some way or another KA needs to make that happen this summer. Coming back in October with the same D-corps and lamentations about how the right trade just didn't work out is not going to fly.

We don't know that. Everything around the TDL (and before) said that we were big-time in the Chychrun sweepstakes.....and KA had to know that at least one 1st round pick was likely being given up in the trade. Same with us reportedly sniffing around Meier a few times.

I honestly think that Adams would/will trade a 1st for the right guy. Obviously, he saw Chychrun as the right guy. If a similar guy shakes free this offseason, I'm not worried that he'll cling too tightly onto 1st round picks.

I still can't help but wonder about Connor Murphy from Chicago. If Okie is done playing and Zem chooses not to comeback, we're going to need a veteran or two to help the kids. His contract isn't bad (3 years @ 4.4 left) and should come relatively cheaply.

He could slide next to Power for a year and truly allow Power to unlock that offensive side to his game and then go to the 3rd pair for a couple years once Boosh leaves.

I wonder if Jokiharju and a pick for Murphy would interest Chicago?

Savoie & Kulich seemed to be the deal breakers on a Chychrun deal and not the Sabres 1st.

Once the lottery comes and goes and we know exactly where the Sabres are picking, then we can talk more definitively about if the Sabres '23 1st would be on the table for the right top 4 D.

Package UPL in for a defensive defensemen this offseason who hits. I don't want another offensive defensemen like Karlsson.

Need a shutdown defensive defenseman.

Offer Jokiharju back straight across and see if they bite? We've talked about Murphy for so long, it's like the "are we there yet" of roster construction. :D

Style and asset wise, I've prefer Clifton as a UFA. Since Boston is also about to experience some things due to contract bonuses hitting their cap for next year, asking them what Carlo is worth to them would also work (though I think they move Grzelcyk if they can).

a trade for Erik karlsson is what they should do.
I am 100% on trading assets for a top 4 dman. Pounding the drum in fact. However, Karlsson is not the right one. He is redundant with Dahlin and Power, and will not only eat a ton of cap space, but the Sharks want an absolute treasure trove.

Go get solid two way, or even defensively slanted guy, who is a very good penalty killer and who can lock it down with Power. It will cost alot less in trade assets and cap hit, and likely be overall more effective toward winning.

"Hello fellow GM, I see your PK is great, you have a stout defense and stellar goaltending"
"Why thank you Mr Adams"
"Can I interest you in less than stellar goaltending and a downgrade in your defense?"

I would LOVE to add Murphy. Problem is, he somehow has a 10 team NTC. If Buffalo is on his list, he may waive it but I am sure he would do anything in his power to try to move to a better team.
