You say this like it's some sort of fact. Seattle made ZERO trades pre-draft.

Either he was asking WAY too much for the deals you're suggesting........or he wasn't interested.
I am trusting Francis' own words here, and basing it off of interviews. Francis stated after the draft that he was not approached by anyone to not select any players. He also made the statement multiple times that he was looking for picks and not cap.

He said the only deals anyone brought to him was to take on massive contracts and that the offered return was not acceptable. Poile and Fletcher (two that came out in the media) said that Francis was asking for a 1st round pick and they balked.

Francis literally took a "pass" when he selected Quennville and Bayreuther because he would rather have the cap space than the contract from anyone available.

He facilitated a deal with Calgary to pass through Pitlick, and he took 11 D, traded one, lost one to waviers, waived one, and was forced to carry 8 D the entire season because he knew he would lose them if he waived another.

Borgen only played a handfull of games before the TDL. He was not part of the big picture at the expansion draft, he would have been protectable. And yes, I am definitely speculating on the cost, but Francis was trying to add picks. He commented on that being his plan. He moved MacDermid for a 4th. There was an opportunity there.

I wonder how much the outcome of the Jets-Flames game tonight impacts the direction of those two teams this summer and who might become available on the blueline from either.

The LD comment above is certainly a thing.

Kings fans seem to think/prefer it will be Walker and Durzi put on the market and moved out from their RD stock.
I think handedness cam be overblown - it's feasible that our top 4 could all be lefties...

The reasons i mentioned Bjornfot - aside from his name popping up here in the past - he's an upcoming RFA & he's only played a handful of Nhl games this year despite playing a full season last year...

Would any of their other guys make sense? They certainly seem to have a surplus of guys there with Brandt Clarke to add to the mix as well...

Yep, I agree regarding handedness - Dahlin seems to be at his best on his off-hand side and Samuelsson in some smaller sample sizes has been fine there too. I'm fine with them expanding their search and not limiting themselves to just RD if the solution could be a different partner for Dahlin and then a Power-Samuelsson pair.

I floated Spence in a thread on the mains and got a strong negative reaction. He's almost ready, right shot, all around guy who should be a good NHLer.

Is Spence an all-around guy? I thought he was another puck-mover, offense-first guy?

From the Kings followers, he's grown his d-zone game but coming out of the draft, he was very much another smallish PMD. I recall seeing an Ontario game and thinking he looked good on the PK. *shrug* Pilut looks good on the Amerks PK sometimes too, so maybe that's not a thing. :biglaugh:

We havent seen it yet and won't this season. To all the savvies out there, would Stillman/Joker have potential for quality 3rd pair?

Olofsson & a prospect/pick for a top 4 D is my offseason dream
Olofsson really doesn't have that much value IMO. He's a healthy scratch who has quite a high cap hit. He's worth a mid round pick at most.

He's not bringing back the calibre of defenceman we need. He's at best a throw in/sweetener.

It’s impossible to walk away from this season without seeing that the lack of another top 4 D cost them big time. Samuelsson goes out and they’re dead. He plays a style where he’s going to go out. They cant run this back or rely on Johnson as a rookie. Adams has to get a real player in here. A year later than we all knew that.

There's always a team or 2 who would pay the price.

Pay what price?

Nobody in their right mind is giving up a bona fide top 4 defenceman for a flawed one-dimensional winger who is currently a healthy scratch.

Adams has the trade chips to go out & make a 'hockey dwal'. However VO isn't one of those chips beyond being a throw in.

I live in LA and go to Kings games. Obviously, anyone is tradeable depending on the offer, but Spence is dynamic offensively, and surprisingly good defensively for a smaller player. Considering he'll be cost controlled for a long while, I think the Kings will hang onto him. They already have 4 RHD in the NHL: Doughty, Roy, Durzi, Walker -- in addition to the prospects: Spence, Clarke, Grans, who are all very close. I absolutely love Matt Roy's game, and he would be my target if I were GM. The Kings may be inclined to try to move Walker or Durzi instead. They're not as good all-around as Roy in my opinion.

If you actually read my OP it's a PROSPECT/1st & VO. We got pool capital in regards to the pipeline. A team would definitely do it.
