If you actually read my OP it's a PROSPECT/1st & VO. We got pool capital in regards to the pipeline. A team would definitely do it.
I did read your OP - you said 'Olofsson & a prospect/pick'. But VO is the worthless/throw in piece in that deal & your post came across otherwise.

More realistically - it might take a good pick AND a good prospect. I have no problem with this if it's for the right fit.

VO is an afterthought though. I suspect we'd get maximum value for him in a seperate deal where we retain 50% & someone who actually wants him would pay a half decent draft pick.

I live in LA and go to Kings games. Obviously, anyone is tradeable depending on the offer, but Spence is dynamic offensively, and surprisingly good defensively for a smaller player. Considering he'll be cost controlled for a long while, I think the Kings will hang onto him. They already have 4 RHD in the NHL: Doughty, Roy, Durzi, Walker -- in addition to the prospects: Spence, Clarke, Grans, who are all very close. I absolutely love Matt Roy's game, and he would be my target if I were GM. The Kings may be inclined to try to move Walker or Durzi instead. They're not as good all-around as Roy in my opinion.
I've been banging the Matt Roy drum all season, but how likely is LA to trade Roy if Clarke is ready? It still seems like Buffalo would have to overpay a little.

I'm curious if and where Metsa gets a deal now.

Metsa say...

Yeah, maybe. But they have 4 RHD on the roster right now, and Clarke and Spence are ready, and Grans is just a little ways away, so I think they'll be motivated to move one of the NHL contracts if all of them are healthy going into next season.

That 13OA is burning a hole in my pocket.
I'd give up 13OA all day for Matt Roy tbh

EDIT:

Just to expand on this - Matt Roy is pretty much everything we would want in a defenseman.

- Good PKer
- Hits/blocks shots
- RHD
- Not totally useless offensively
- Very good charts/fancy stats
- 28 (no more developing, in his prime)

Only potential downside is he's signed only through next year then he's a UFA. So 13th OA may be a little rich for Roy if I may backpedal a bit from my original statement. However if we have an extension in place at a reasonable number - then yes 13OA is 100% in play.

Roy is an ideal target. I know this might be a touch rich -- but maybe 13 OA for Roy and LA's 2nd? LA trades up a round, we get an ideal RHD and still get two bites at the apple in the 2nd round?

Yeah that does seem like a more fair price. Sign me up!

Yes. Then use the 2nd to get an upgrade on Joker.

For a 28 yr old with 1 yr left and you’d give up a pick in the teens?
absolutely not. Adams isn’t doing that.

to give up 13OA for a Dman you are looking at players under 25 with 3+ yrs of team control left.

that’s what the Isles did last year

Adams had the opportunity to do that for you-know-who & failed. Beggars can't be choosers.

FWIW i think a R1 pick for Roy does sound a bit steep... But if they think he's the best guy they can get & that's what it takes - then so be it.

A good top 4 defenceman to round off our group for the foreseeable future is worth more to us than that draft pick will likely be.

Id rather Roy + Iafallo for VO (50% retained) and the 1st.

That is actually worse….

people on here talk about weaponizing the cap space, but have no clue how it actually works by their proposals

the kings need cap space.

to move Roy and Iafallo they might get a 7th.

Good analysis. Pretty close to how I see him. He's pretty mobile too, and will jump up to join the rush quite a bit. IMO, he's not worth pick 13OA (as much as I like him), and the Kings will save over $3m in cap space if they move him. Fun to think about.

The more I look at LA's cap situation for next season, the more I think they might really prefer to trade someone like Roy. Extensions for Trevor Moore, Michael Anderson, Copley, and new contracts for Vilardi, Gavrikov, and Korpisalo probably add over 10 mil to their cap, with no significant expiring contracts to help make the room.

That's a trade scenario for LA that requires an all futures/prospects/entry-level deals type of return. Wouldn't you know it, but that's just what Buffalo has to offer?!?
