Kiper and McShay didn't love our draft at all

Honestly I'll take that as a good sign.

I am a little disappointed we didn't take a QB as insurance though. I have little to no faith in Thad Lewis to come in and play if he's needed. I'm also not sold on EJ being the guy either.

Last year was a men for me but getting Kiko made up for a head scratching 1st round pick that controls our whole fate at this point. To be honest these past 2 years none of the QBs were too good. Brotles might be alright but I'm skeptical.

Why does it have to be this way? Are you just building in an excuse for any failures before the season begins? If your winning lies upon your QB only then you really don't have a good team.

We still need to see if the new guys will gel with the team, we still need to see if the change in scheme will affect the pass rush, how will the sophomores play being it's their 2nd year, which includes EJ? How will Kiko play after playing last year in the middle? All signs point to him being better, but teams will focus on taking him out of plays. How will he respond?

I really don't understand the amount of hate on EJ. He played just over 1/2 a season. He came in with a Brand new head coach who never was a Head Coach in the league before, he didnt have as strong of an Oline as Fitzpatrick did the year before, He has no safety valves with a consistent TE.

Does he have his warts? you bet he does. But these warts are correctable. That's what happens with Rookie Qb's. They have the chance to have their deficiencies corrected. He made a few head-scratching plays which did caused his injury, his throws need to have more zip on them. His base for when he throws isn't stable enough.

There are more problems on this team to just put everything on EJ. Does he have a better offense around him? I don't know. Watkins is a better talent than Stevie. But besides drafting a potential O-line starter, they have done nothing to really help him out where they should have; the TE position. The TE position is the most important position for a rookie/Sophomore QB coming into the league, and IMO, Chandler is not that good. He's a decent #2 or #3 TE.

Chandler a decent #2 or #3 TE? On who the 2012 patriots with Gronk and Hernandez? That's implying there are 60-90 tight ends better then Chandler. Chandler is without a doubt a top 20-25 tight end if not higher. Yeah he isn't no Gronk but he's decent. He did lead the team in catches and yards last year and the two seasons prior he had 6 TDS both years. Don't forget we have Moeaki. When healthy he is also a starting caliber tight end. In his two seasons he averaged 40-500-2 and is only turning 27. We didn't draft a TE because we don't need to after drafting Watkins. Chandler and Moeaki are good as a 1-2 punch. With all the weapons we have now a prominent tight end isn't needed. There is only one football and Watkins-Williams-Woods-Goodwin-Spiller-Chandler-Jackson-Moeaki are more then enough options. This is the deepest WR/TE core we have had in years even without Stevie "why god" Johnson.

I just mean that "struck gold" is quite extreme, despite the fact that he had a pretty good debut season.

You strike gold when you get all pros at wr. That is tbd

Ok I'll agree to that then. We struck gold with Kiko and got a very promising WR in Woods who has the potential to be a top WR. I still love Woods and the pick, I could see him out producing Williams (and possibly Watkins though I hope not) this season. He was a stud at the college level, going into his junior season he was talked about as a top 10 pick and fell to the 2nd. He out produced 90% of the WRs drafted the last 2 years playing for the Bills of all teams. I would say we have a good one on our hands and the best thing is he won't be depended on to be a #1 guy which makes it all the better. When was the last time we had 2 stud WRs in the same season? Moulds and Peerless when we had Bledsoe year one? Not saying he's gonna be a stud this season or even next but he just turned 22. When he turns 25 he should be fully developed and hopefully has a rapport with Manuel and Watkins. If Williams keeps his nose clean and produces throughout his contract all the better.

Yeah... I don't know how anyone can buy the "win now" mode after trading your best wide receiver for a 5th round draft choice.

Yeah, Stevie isn't their best receiver anymore. He's never been more than a very good #2 and he's basically the same guy Woods is, only older and more expensive.

Sammy (legit #1), Woods (strong possession) and Williams (big red-zone target) are a pretty good top three. Stevie was expendable.

I am very high on Goodwin. He had some nice deep catches last season and missed out on a few due to Ejs inaccuracy. Hopefully they can build on that, he stretches the field with his speed and has great hands. (Unlike Graham)

Here is my reasoning for the Sammy Watkins pick. Pick 9 this year which we traded netted Anthony Barr (LB). Pick 19 this year (About where we should finished) netted Ja-Wawn James (OT). Would you rather have these two guys or Sammy Watkins. It's a pretty easy decision for me, I'd rather have Sammy 10 times out of 10. In fact the OT we got in the 2nd round I prefer over James.

The same can be said for NHL trades as well even though NHL draft picks don't have as much value. I would trade pick 9 and pick 19 everyday in the NHL to get into the top 5 draft picks which have really low bust rates.

I know we're supposed to say this about Kiper, but at the end of the day some of his criticism is valid. Last year, they lost Levitre and didn't bother replacing him...and struggled along the interior OL all season. This year, they lost Byrd and switched to a 4-3 and didn't bother addressing S or DL. We shall see...

It's not unreasonable, but his "Draft Guru" status is a complete joke. He's been turned into a guru simply by being promoted as one, not that such things are rare in life.

Was watching a show about the draft when Irving Fryar went first overall.

1. It was Kiper's first appearance. Ex and current GMs completely hammered him reminding everyone that he has never made a pick in his life, that he is an information gatherer and relayer as opposed to an expert etc..

2. He hair was substantially less helmet like.

3. He self promoted and found a niche doing something he loves.

He is like a weatherman. Lots to say, and its okay if he is wrong. Good for him, just don't take him too seriously..... or any of these other guys.

GM's make decisions with their expertise and their staff feedback and make good choices and bad choices and a million different factors pre and post draft go into whether a player ultimately succeeds.

Back in the infancy of the internet, I subscribed to a Buffalo Bills newsprint magazine which was published Tuesday, and would arrive via snail mail before the next Sunday game, usually on a Thurs Fri or Sat. Was a great read during the early 90's since I had moved away from WNY. I still have the Oiler wild-card comeback edition with "Un-Bill-eivable" on the cover. Can't remember the name of it - "Buffalo Bills Weekly" or "Shout", or something like that. Pretty sure it was published out of Rochester or Northern Virginia, not Buffalo.

I recall a post-draft article during the Polian years (during which the Bills went to Kutztown to get Andre Reed, Chadron State for Don Beebe, Northwestern for Steve Tasker, picked up Ray Bentley from the USFL, etc.). The article was discussing how Mel Kiper Jr. lambasted the Bills draft, then asked the question: "Who the **** is Mel Kiper Jr., anyway?"

I seem to recall a Bills magazine called "Shout" that was in various super markets, etc when I was a kid in the early 90's.

Tasker was a waiver claim from Hoston who drafted him.

i recall the first time this happened---it was replayed numerous times since---Kiper got into an argument on TV with the Giants GM where the Giants GM dismissed him as a nobody.

I'll see if I can find my copy...

There was a local, non-chain, sports bar a few miles from where I lived called "Buffalo's" owned / ran by a couple ex-pats. They had Genny on tap for Bills games, did their own wings, etc., had a bunch of memorabilia, but more football than hockey, etc.

I gave them two 18x24" posters sponsored by Wendt's milk which they hung on the walls there. One was Gil Perreault portrait closeup (posed, not on ice) in home white. The other was the 1979-80 Sabres team photo (landscape). Place closed >15 years ago. Wish I had those posters, now that I have a bonus room / game room I'm working on remodeling the next couple years...

They have the WRs and RBs and even a decent D but all that speed at WR is meaningless if the QB can't get them the ball is all

The Bills have to pick up a 4th QB even just for camp. Don't want to go into camp with just 3 QBs, especially having an extra preseason game...after last training camp I'd hope they wouldn't take that risk again. So grabbing a guy off a youtube video wouldn't be terrible actually, even if we pretty much know it's gonna be Manuel/Lewis/Tuel going into the season.

I'm pretty sure Tanney was already on the Bills years ago, regardless we have Dennis Dixon as our 4th qb.
