Wtf, Tuch is only 25? I thought he was nearing 30. Also high on Krebs (the Player, I don't know kids with their lingo nowadays). I like the trade for Buffalo and Vegas... I've made jokes, but John will be a top 10 center in the league; Wish him a successful and speedy recovery.

I mean, I don't think anyone is saying he should retain 5M a year.

Going by the "value" of cap space (6M for Marleau = 1st round pick), if we could have retained 1.2M a year in cap space for 5 years and gotten a 1st round equivalent back (prospect, player, or just a pick), it is silly not to do it. Was that offered? Who knows. It's counter productive to say its a non starter without exploring the value for it. It kind of flies in the face of "it wasn't personal", it seems the ownership didn't want to keep paying Jack on principal. Just seems like more pettiness, just like taking away the captain's C was.

What talking about? You don’ get to take a specific situation — Where a team traded 1 year of player in desperation to stay cap compliant. Then pretend its the same thing (valuewise) if you play that 6mil out over 5yrs (1.2mil a year).

The lengths you’re going to bitch about this trade is getting embarrassing.

In what universe should the Sabres retain any salary at all for a player that wants nothing to do with the team for 5 years. That's lunacy.

I'm glad this one over. For injured Eichel? I'm good with that package. Never liked the boy anyway. Was very good hockey player.
He's still [a] very good hockey player lol. Glad Kevyn held out... I don't know if more was offered prior to the draft/Summer, but this is a great deal given the circumstances.

Edit. Also Fish and his other buddy are jackasses. Glad he hired Brisson who at least facilitated a trade, as opposed to public Twitter rants/obvious leaks.

It passed "getting" some time ago

Lordy.

Saying that the team should view cap space as an asset and have been willing to retain an an appropriate asset level price (if you don't want to use the marleau example, there's the Ladd example, which is 2x 2nds and a 3rd for 11M in cap space but only 4M in cash), either way, there's a market level to asses on cap retention. The fact that it was a 'non starter' when it could have brought more suitors to the table, screams that the ownership simply didn't want to pay Jack to play for another team. It's a simple calculation of value. I think you can set a cap to it, but if a team is offering you tangible value for a small amount of cap space over 5 years, it should be considered.

Adams showed he's ruthlessly committed to youth by avoiding a deal that involved taking on a Berglund/Sobotka/Simmonds type.

Going back to Vogl's tweet from last night about 'external pressures', Friedman had a scheduled interview with Eichel this morning. Given that this trade went through in the wee hours of the night, seems like it might be what pushed the Sabres to push it across the finish line. (that is from the Jeff Marek podcast from Friedman directly)

Take this for whatever it’s worth:
I definitely disagree with a number of things he said in this interview. But he made some interesting comments about Eichel (starts around the 10:00-10:30 mark).

He said Eichel lacked character. Then said “Jack was never really a good person while he was here. He wore out his welcome...”.

Said Eichel was never happy here (I can buy that much, at least). Said he was never around a star player like Eichel who was always pissed off and implied he didn’t treat teammates very well.

I wonder if he will go into more detail on one of his future podcasts.
At least he didn't call him spineless.

I’m happy for Jack.

This seems like it must have been the most anticipated trade in years. It was talked about on all the broadcasts/podcasts.

When do you reckon there was last a trade with as much hype as Eichel was getting?
