Prepare to be shocked.

I said it earlier in this thread, the hometown connection thing doesn't amount to as much as people think it does. It's not like the bruins offer the "contenders" status that other teams do, either.
Lot of under selling here. I have no clue what he's going to do but I'm a 33 year season ticket holder of Boston live 2 towns over from Vesey and my kids played in same home rink as him and you know how kids are with their network and all- and mine thinks Boston is going to have to get knocked off the pole in the next week. Just saying :)

The only thing the Bruins have to offer is the opportunity to be run out of town if you show any semblance of skill.

I sincerely hope he signs with the Leafs just to see the reactions out of certain individuals in this thread.

Can't find any reports but it's been talked about here and there that his dad is battling cancer I believe. I would assume the family isn't into announcing it to the media and all that. I also believe that's why Jimmy Sr works in Massachusetts for the Leafs, as the rigorous travel done by a scout would destroy him.

He's battling cancer.

Damn, that sucks. Hopefully it's a winnable battle.

Yes, all of those hall of fame players were run out of town. Guys like Orr, Esposito, Neely, Middleton, Ratelle, Park, Bourque, Shore, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, are all beloved heroes in Boston, they sure as hell weren't run out of town. In recent years Bergeron, Krejci, Chara, Marchand, Lucic, and on and on have all been beloved players in Boston.

I get people are hyping this guy up as we're bored but I couldn't really care if he chose the Leafs or someone else. IMO you're lucky if he's a good 3rd liner. Most guys coming out of college hockey have been over hyped and every time the next one comes there is a lineup of people wanting to tell you why this one is different.

The things is, the Bruins can be contenders with Vesey. If he signs, that makes a young LW expendable - probably DeBrusk. This added to a young D (probably Zboril), and next year's 1st, can easily get us a top defenseman.

Over the last few years, playing for Chicago has increased the value of that 2nd contract.

Saad - 6
Shaw - 3.9
Leddy - 5.5
Kruger - 3.9

Take a player like Shaw and start his career in Arizona, he doesnt get near that value.
I think they were really talking about next contracts with the same team.

The hype isn't really coming from how good he is. It's coming from the fact that he's basically a young asset that's free (unless Buffalo ends up signing him, then technically he isn't).

A top d-man for Debrusk, Zboril & 1st? Like...Lindholm for that package? Or Trouba for that package? Or Dumba?

just wondering

That really sucks.

Gotta think that with everything else being equal, this would be what tips the scale in Boston's favor, imo. Honestly, if one of my parents were going through a similar battle, it wouldn't matter where they were in relation to my hometown-- I'd do everything in my power to sign with the nearest team.

The Rangers and Chicago have 1 first round pick in past three years between and not exactly brimming with second and thirds especially high in those rounds. That's usually not a good way to sustain a good team.

I'm a DeBrusk guy I hope they don't include him he can play both wings

Maybe for Dumba. For Lindholm or Trouba the ask would be Debrusk, McAvoy and 1st, and, in actuality, would probably require a different deal with Pastrnak involved.

Vesey has nothing to do with Debrusk except for organizational depth purposes. If we were to acquire a top end D man the ones that would be "expendable" (and i mean that term very loosely, because Vesey hasnt proven anything yet either) would be Vatrano and/or Pasta.

I agree with your overall point though, acquiring a LWer makes another one expendable for a trade.

That definitely could be the deciding factor.

Buffalo with Eichel, young nucleus, the position, proximity to home makes a lot of sense if he choose them.

Chicago has the great talent and it was good enough for Ferris Bueller it should be good enough for Vesey.

Boston home town near folks, college, and can play with 3 of his childhood friends who were high Bodton picks and likely on a line with Krejci and Backes

Any team he picks be it them, Pittsbugh, NJ, Rangers etc will have some explainable valid angle or reason

While I don't disagree with the bold, I'm not sure adding to Vesey to the Bruins would cause any dominoes to fall quite yet. He's a free asset, and largely regarded as a guy that's ready to play in the NHL, but I wouldn't start trading off established NHLers quite yet. He's gotta prove that he can produce at this level.

For what it's worth, I'd put my money on Vatrano being a markedly better NHLer than Vesey next season. Very few rookies have ever scored at the pace he did last year in the AHL...the guy will shoot from the concession stands if he's got a lane.

I'd say Buffalo is the one team he doesn't sign with for sure. He'd be signed already, if he was going there.

Listen, I'm a Sabres fan but that's reality. I suppose it's a long shot he sees nothing else he likes.

As for the other teams, just seems like lots of guessing.

I thought the same about Stamkos in Tampa Bay as well and we all know how that turned out.

Seems like every other person in this thread "knows a guy who knows a guy".

I don't necessarily buy the "source" in the most recent article stating that the Rangers, Hawks, and Devils as front runners and the Bruins are basically out, but I would trust it more than someone on an internet forum that claims to have inside knowledge.

Well according to some guy named Datar he's going to Chicago or Toronto. So I'm assuming he won't be going to Boston. Haggerty I know personally and talked to him last month just BSing and he told me he thought Boston was in great spot so something happened to lead to that article. Anyways he's good I've watched him play and I really like his game especially from the dots in

Another person who has no idea what they're talking about.

The hometown connection is pretty much the only reason why he would sign with the Bruins.

My dad has cancer (he should be fine) just like Vesey's dad and while I've been applying to new jobs, I would never take one outside of Boston.

I'm not saying he's 100% coming to Boston but if he is, it's because of the hometown connection. Stop trying to act like you know more than people when you don't.
