Well, he's a driver here, and he's just entering his prime, which is enticing. Young C just entering his prime? Not the type of player to give up on due to a rough playoff run, but Savoie was a good return atleast.

Not really, because even if Henrique doesn't score much, he also doesn't disappear and do nothing for 10 game stretches like McLeod regularly did as an Oiler, which is why the Oilers couldn't keep using McLeod as their third line center. The Henrique, Brown, Janmark line was great in the playoffs and McLeod was one of the worst forwards on the team in the playoffs, most games he did absolutely nothing. We can only compare players on how they played on the Oilers, the McLeod that was on the Oilers was not that good.

He couldn't be much worse then what McLeod was in the playoffs last season. I actually like McLeod but he was way to inconsistent and was very disappointing in the playoffs. You can find a replacement for what he brings and not give up a recent top 10 pick.

I don't doubt he is. Some players' trajectories change as a result of a trade. I'm reminded of Cogliano who admitted that he needed that jolt to adapt his game.

Mcleod is a pending UFA playing for a big payday. Buffalo will pay him whatever he wants because they traded a top prospect for him - the Oilers cannot afford to pay Mcleod. I'm glad you are happy with him, but Savoie is producing on a terrible AHL team (something you ignored).

100% never cared for Henrique and would still like McLeod but management soured on him last playoffs

Henrique and Savoie or McLeod? They traded McLeod to sign Henrique. Pretty easily Henrique and Savoie. If McLeod has a great season there is no chance the Oilers could afford to keep him, if he sucked they wouldn't get anything for him.

I believe McLeod will still be an RFA but that probably still factored into the Oilers trading him. They likely did not feel he was a long term core player. The Oilers can only base their decision on how he played for them and it wasn't good enough in most cases to make any kind of big investment from them.
