Avs and Rangers did pretty well with Fox and Makar it seems.

Those contracts were signed ~2 years ago, are both shorter term, and buy fewer UFA years. Of course Dahlin got more.

Just to add input. 7 of the 8 years are UFA years which is likely what made the AAV 11.
Makar and Fox were both 4 UFA years or so.

The concept of RFA and UFA years having different value continues to be too complicated for hockey fans unfortunately

Is the league more healthy? There's quite a few "Have-nots" and while Coyotes have never done great, they were in better shape without a cap.
NHL is still getting too much $ from Canada and 7 teams.

Dahlin is a stud but I think this is about a million too high. With the cap going up though it a decent deal for both sides.

Good for Dahlin and Buffalo, because he is a very good player. I have trouble reconciling that he's worth 11 million AAV, as I haven't watched him closely enough to see this. If Buffalo Sabres fans are happy, then I'm happy for them. Lord knows they've had enough misery the last 10 years.

Non top 5D in the league should not be making 11M

Makar, Fox, McAvoy, all are a lot under 11M and are better then him, but they signed under lower cap.

Dahlin ceiling is lower than Malar and Fox but probably better than McAvoy

He still needs to improve to be worth 11M

He's every bit as good as those guys already.

You do get that owners are expanding so much to get that extra expansion fees, right? NBA doesn't have 32 teams.. They don't have a good TV deal in the U.S so they make that up by expanding.

7 ufa years is what makes this one good.

Makar is doing just fine with his 9 per year for only another 3 years after this season... cause then he will sign a MASSIVE contract afterwards at 28ish years old
