They forgot the 3 golden rules for success: Location, Location, Location. The only way they average 20K attendance is if they play both NYY and Red Sox 20 home games.

Attendance numbers are bullshit and have been for the better part of 15 years now. Throw on a Yankees game and tell me that place has 40k - it doesn't, its a ghost town. The only thing that matters is corporate engagement and actual paid tickets. That said, I don't understand how staying on that side of the bay is supposed to be a good choice considering the demographics, but lets also face the facts that the demographics are changing rapidly around here since about 2018. I don't think that change is enough to sell me on staying in Pinellas necessarily but there is an increase in latin/hispanic population over the last few years and significant growth in 65+ populations, but the biggest spenders tend to fit in that 35-49 demographic and that has seen a 10% decline since 2010.

Agree with @Master P as well, they HAVE to sort out public transit in some capacity if they are serious about being successful.

LOL this is so dumb. So essentially they're just betting a newer dome will do the trick. I dunno man...

Yeah I'm not sold on this at all. They basically stalled out for like 16 years talking an ungodly amount of shit just to build Trop 2.0 across the street for 3 times the cost had they just started in 2007 or whenever that was. Like thanks guys. You're STILL 45 minutes away from me and the other 105,000 people that straddle the Pasco/Hillsborough county border. Like I'm happy they're staying but that site in Ybor or by the fairgrounds/Hard Rock casino made BY FAR the most sense. It's gonna look stupid as hell when it's 7pm on a Tuesday in September vs the Detroit Tigers and there's like 11,000 people.

That same game a month later on a Tuesday vs the Detroit Red Wings would hold 25,000 if Amalie had the capacity.

They really need some sort of public transportation for this to actually make a significant difference.

That being said, I’m glad they are staying.

We might as well keep dreaming. We could propose an indestructible, hurricane-proof high speed rail that takes you straight across the Bay in 10 minutes from St. Pete to Tampa or vice versa for an all day $11 ticket and some government official would find some way to whine about how its too expensive while Florida straddles an economic surplus

I can absolutely see this going from 50% to "investors are slow in __________..." (down to 30%) to "trouble convincing them the project's long-term prospects in St Petersburg..." (down to the original <25% stated years ago).

Baltimore loses a game and the Rays go down 6-0 in 2 innings. This is just not meant to be folks
They're pathetic. Civale had not turned out great overall, and there's just no excuse at all to get curb stomped by a team like the shitty Angels on your home field when in a pennant race.

(broken record): Another series win. With guys like Margot, Paredes, Diaz, this team is exasperating at times, but fun to watch. Eflin with 10K's in 5. Impressive. On to TO.

Well the Rays did what good teams do. They found a way to win against a very bad team. Like I'm not even that upset that the Rays aren't gonna win the division. Once it takes past 100 wins you've reached the point of ridiculousness. Now compile it with like everyone on the pitching staff needing Tommy John surgery and Franco basically killing his own career.

I just don't know how any more mad I can be anymore. Maybe frustrated as hell but not mad

True that. I really think the HR derby F'ed him up, big time. Trying to tomahawk those high heaters is not a good thing.

Well he managed to get out of that funk a while ago. Right now something's off and he's changing his swing too much. Chad Mottola has to sit Randy down and tell him that his swing is what got him here. If he needs to sit a day or two then we might as well go for it. I don't think we're catching Baltimore

If the Rays don't win the division it's clearly on the bullpen. This team could very realistically have another 5-10 wins, and that's not fan exaggeration...it's just reality. In fact that's probably on the low end of extra wins they could have.

It's tough to get excited for the playoffs, where pitching is even more important, with this pen. The starters are going to have to eat a lot of innings if this team wants to make a run.

For me it comes down to the injuries. I didn't even know it was possible for this many guys to blow out their arm. We realistically could have rebuilt the bullpen using our own players. Imagine guys like Bradley, Springs or Baz coming off the bench for 2 innings. That's what should be happening but instead we got this.

What a damn shame

It was inevitable. Let's hope he and Xavier Isaac (in time though) can be the future of the Rays. That void left behind by Franco is going to be damning. He talent was borderline generational at worst.

Also I completely redact all the shitposting I made about the Rays staying in St. Pete. I had no idea their plan was going to be something like what the Braves did in the battery district. I literally thought that for like 4-5 times the cost of 16 years ago they were just gonna build up the road and make a bigger parking lot and we'd all be eating at Ferg's for the 928th time. Hotels, housing, restaurants, shopping, a 4,000 seat concert venue. All you're missing is a movie theater, some bowling, top golf, arcades, an escape room center and a well-run dance club that you'd have no reservations of your young adult son or daughter going to.

I was completely wrong. The Rays are going to absolutely crush it with this plan if they plan this correctly. You won't be able to keep people away. If they get revenue from all this stuff they're going to be swimming in money.

Glasnow left in way too long, and coupled with another anemic effort from the jekyll/Hyde offense, has cost them another crucial game. Ho hum in Rays land with this horrible manager.

Once the Jays got that first hit, Glasnow went to the dumpster. Yeah, it was 90 pitches, but he's certainly been there before. Total brain fart for whatever reason. I can't blame Cash on this one.

Yeah I'm not mad at Cash on this one. When 3/5 of your starting rotation goes down to Tommy John and your bullpen was shit for an entire summer you can only do so much
