It lives!!! And has legs!!!

No insider stuff here, but I could see us signing both Prospal and Bryz for cheap, dumping Pyatt (for Tootoo??) and eventually bringing up one of Haley or Mashinter. Talbot and Miller might be temporary callups first

Posted this in another thread before the Bryz to NYR rumors started. See now that it has legs. Which one of you guys is Dark Sather reading this crazy stuff BTW?

Biron retires
Bryz signs for a year at a bit lower cap hit
I like Bryz
Rabies crazy
Good goalie that somehow regressed
Great backup option imo for 15-20 starts in Olympic year

Prospal signs with a bonus laden 1 year contract

We get a 4th for Pyatt. Or Tootoo maybe?? He could provide The Avery effect I would think. That we sorely need. An Eskimo in New York... (I know it´s an Inuit these days but it sounded better - no offense)

Still looking for that RD that can work on the PP
Deadline deal??

This could all go down actually.
Though first of all we need to play some good hockey and win some games before the deadline can be even in question. The other Metro teams are really handing us the baton. Time to run with it!!!

Soooooo down with this. He's a starter but for a goofy personality that doesn't fly in sports. At best maybe he helps deflect some of the spotlight off stars like Nash who don't seem to particularly thrive under. it. I'd take Bryz over Marty as my back-up every day of the week and even more so going forward. I don't mind the spectacle, who was the last real personality on the Rangers?

Agreed. none since #68, who had the "cancer" label before coming here too. I'd give the dude a chance without hesitation.

I think it would be a good signing. Personally I think the whole Bryz is craaazy was completely blown out of water because of 24/7. Maybe he's slightly eccentric but I think partly it was also him being lost in translation and how he was portrayed. It can be very frustrating when you try to explain something in a foreign language and you can't find the words to dress your thoughts in or it comes out different than what you meant. To me he looks like a good guy.

Carter and Richards... traded, then wins Stanley Cup

Bobrovsky gets traded wins Vezina

Bryzgalov gets bought out....

I think bryz would be one of the best back ups in the league, hope we sign him

The only thing missing from this thread is my brother's, cousin's, uncle's friends wife has a nephew who knows a guy, who knows a guy who is friends with someone who cleans the locker room in Philly and said Bryz was a cancer...

I have yet to see a link with any information that even hints at him being disruptive

I was actually hoping the Islanders sign him as a 1A-1B starter. I think whoever does sign him will get a very talented goalie....He had one HORRI-TERRIBLE year in Phili behind a horrible defense. Not many realize the year before in Phili he had a 33-16 record...No good in the playoffs but is he really gonna be on the Ice for you guys in the playoffs? He was very steady for PHX also....I'm a fan of the guy, only question is if he's sitting for 10-12 games at a time will he get bored a start **** in the locker room or media

Eh, Hank got tired when he was used too much. It's going to happen. Why bother wasting him when we can get a chance to win with a good back-up? It's why Biron was so useful when he was still good.

Biron hasnt been good for years...our system covered up his inability to stop anything but the most simple shots. he's a positional goalie, he gets in a position, and makes the save if the shooter shoots the puck into him. he has no reaction ability at all, pick an opening and shoot...you'll score. before, we'd have a body there blocking the shot.

Biron has always sucked here...he shouldnt have made the team out of camp if you want to be really fair.

I've never heard that he was disruptive I have heard that his teammates in Philly didn't like him, my guess is it's based on his play and the fact that he is an odd ball. That Philly team has always seemed to have a dysfunctional locker room though. Wasn't it 24/7 where no one would sit with Bryz at the team dinner?

I was actually under the impression that he was a distraction in Phoenix. I don't care how good he is, your back-up goalie cannot be a bad teammate, he isn't going to play enough to justify it (especially here with Lundqvist)

We're actually glad -- first of all, I'm glad he's gone because the guy we brought in has done a great job and fitted in real well, made our team even closer. There was some animosity there with Bryz sometimes. We don't have that with [Mike Smith] so we have a good group and we're winning games because of it.

Talbot's done very well in Hartford for the last three years, I'd rather he get a chance to prove himself before the team looks to the outside for a back-up. Heck, I'd rather swap a pick for Elliot before looking at Bryzgalov.

Before we extend an offer of any kind I really want to see how Talbot does. I've always wanted him to succeed. But seriously, did Bryz all of a sudden become a locker room cancer in Philadelphia out of nowhere? I heard nothing about him like that in ANA or PHX. And it's borederline understandable why Philly media and the lockerroom wouldn't be warm to him. To make room for his contract, Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, players who should've been Flyers for life, were traded for him. How would you feel if your best friend was evicted for the landlord's weird nephew? I'd hate him too.

It's a minor detail also, but he won a cup in ANA in 2007.

If the Rangers were to find another backup goalie in the next 10 days they could demote Talbot without waivers. Last cleared waivers September 26. CBA 13.2(b):

(b) the Player has not played in ten (10) or more NHL Games cumulative since Regular Waivers on him were last cleared, and more than thirty (30) days cumulative on an NHL roster have not passed since Regular Waivers on him were last cleared.

30 days. Sep 27. Sep 28. Sep 29. Sep 30. Oct 1. Oct 2. Oct 3. Oct 4. Oct 5. Oct 6. Oct 7. Oct 8. Oct 9. Oct 10. Oct 11. Oct 12. Oct 13. Oct 14. Oct 15. Oct 16. Oct 17. Oct 18. Oct 19. Oct 20. Oct 21. Oct 22. Oct 23. Oct 24. Oct 25. Oct 26. 30 days.

Why? Because he's funny?

He's good enough to be used as the backup.

Sean Avery was good enough to be a NHLer when he was waived and no one picked him up. The guy has a reputation of isolating himself from his teammates and being a polarizing locker room figure. That's fine if you are a 40 game winner as a goalie. As a back-up? No thanks.

As opposed to signing Ilya Bryzgalov to be our back-up?

Yeah, I know its the thing to laugh about how much he sucks.. or LOLL UNIVERSE whatever but the fact of the matter is he has put up great numbers up until last season..

20 games a year.. would I rather have Bryz, who isn't THAT old and has a body of positive work in the NHL, or Cam Talbot.. a career AHLer.

Its a no brainer. I don't even think about it.

This is all assuming he'd sign for a reasonable amount, of course. No more than Biron's cap hit. Probably would need to be less.

You all actually think we're a better team with Talbot?

Comical.

I think we're about the same with Talbot between the pipes. Why is that comical? Bryzgalov is 33 and his SV% over the past two NHL seasons is .905. Do you think Cam Talbot is incapable of replicating or exceeding that performance? If you've been watching him in Hartford over the past season plus, you'd probably be pretty confident that he's ready. I certainly am.

There's also an issue of cost. Talbot is making about $560k, whereas Bryzgalov will cost, what--$1M? $1.5M? More? I don't know. It's not a ton of money, but we're close to the cap and it's money that could be spent better elsewhere. Our backup goaltending situation is not a major issue. In fact, with Talbot, I don't think it's an issue at all.

Its a no brainer. I don't even think about it.

This is all assuming he'd sign for a reasonable amount, of course. No more than Biron's cap hit. Probably would need to be less.

What's comical is that you laugh off other peoples' opinions and then present your own with major caveats like that.
