Honestly, if everyone wants Hank to not start 20 games this year because of the olympics, this might be one of the best moves we can make.

Bryz as a backup is a great luxury to have.

Would take him. The reason being is because if Hank walks we have more option.

Hank's entire life is NEW YORK. He isn't leaving. How can fans of this team and or Lundqvist not understand this already? He spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in renovations just a few years ago on his Penthouse, he's absolutely in LOVE with the city, and has business interests here.

He wants to win HERE. Not anywhere else. There is more to life than hockey! He's not going anywhere.

We could do worse for a short term backup....assuming we even have the cap space. In an Olympic year having a solid tandem is key.

I don't mind Bryz.

He gets way more crap than he deserves. He is a good goaltender and would be more than fine as a back-up.

As far as being a bad guy in the locker room, I haven't really read what exactly the problems were. Anybody have an exact idea or is it all just rumors...

Yeah, I am not a fan of this goaltender. At all.

If I was to try to paint a brighter picture on this, it would be that we're looking to get a guy just 2 seasons removed from being considered a top 5 goaltender in the league, who has the ability to fill in should Henrik get injured or abandon us.

Don't want him in the locker room

I don't really worry about this.

To put it like this, I think Bryz got a serious problem with dealing with pressure, and especially with the media when pressured.

You never heard one single bad news about him during his first ten years in the AHL/NHL, but alot of postive news. He was a great locker room guy in PHX and everyone raved about how funny he was etc. Anaheim liked him.

Then he collapsed, in a completely unacceptable fashion, in Philly and he completely screwed alot of people putting a ton of fate in him. But I never got the feeling that his problem is anything but a mix of him being extremely frustrated with his own play and him not taking media for anything else than what it is, and wasting even more energy on that.

But again, he only got that problem after 10 seasons in NA after signing that contract in Philly, where he faced really rough conditions with a mess of a team in some ways infront of him and media with a ton of expectations on him and the team etc.

I don't think Bryz is a top 15-20 goalie in this league anymore. He is a little bit old school, and that is seldom a good combination when you get a bit older and teh reflexes starts to fail you a bit. He hasn't really couped with developing either.

In the end I have no reason to expect that he would break down in a back-up role, or even if he would step in as a starter somewhere under some unforseen situation. A back-up making league minimum just never face that pressure. If that said back-up for some reason gets to start, its still not the same as being on the book for 70m or whatever in Philly. IE, I can't see him becoming a strong starter in this league anymore, I don't think he is that good. But I wouldn't expect him to come in and create a mess somewhere.

Bryz is a good guy and a solid goalie. I don't why people are freaking out about this. It's not like he's gonna be our starter.

And its a very smart thing to do, signing a quality goalie at a cheap rate.

This is a no brainer for me, hoping it happens.

Ironic choice of words. Perhaps you should assess the impact of bringing in a guy with no brain.

I don't care about the stupid things he has said.

Fact of the matter is he was considered a top goalie before last season, where he struggled for a team that played no defense whatsoever.

Him as a backup, or as a option to replace Hank should the unthinkable happen is a smart move.

You want Cam Talbot playing 20 games this season or Bryz who has put up very good numbers outside of 2008 and last year?

What if Hank goes down? Cam Talbot #1 goalie? you kidding me? This move would be fantastic.

I think he'd be fine in our locker room. There is little to no pressure on him as a backup and god forbid Hank gets hurt, there is no free agent with the talent he has when on his A Game. He's a likable guy and a talented goalie.

With that said, I think there's little to lose by giving Talbot a chance. I'm fine with any option, outside of Biron.

It depends on the price tag. I doubt he'd want to come here for multiple years at less than 1.5 million.

Didn't his KHL team tell him to get lost during the lockout last year?

I have absolutely no problem with exploring this. People are worried because he's weird? It's not like he's a Tim Thomas who's hated. He's just an oddball - why do people care?

I would rather let Cam have a shot in the NHL. He looked solid in preseason for the most part.

I like that Bryz actually has a personality, but he is the definition of head case. Not what this team needs right now. Edit: And as others have said, probably going to cost more than I would want NYR to spend right now.

I don't care that he's weird. I like weird. I just happen to believe Talbot is ready to succeed and think the money could be better spent elsewhere.

And if not now for Talbot, when? Why even bother having young goalies in the system if we are only comfortable with veterans?

That's fair, and that I get.

I just don't understand the reaction some people have along the lines of "noooo everyone in New York will get cancer if we sign him!!!!"

Well, slight exaggeration....

Not to derail the thread but its so funny to me how Bryz has sat out (Im going to assume hes AT LEAST gotten offers at the league. min from teams) waiting for a better offer when hes already collecting the what, 6+ mill from his buyout..

But he'd rather do nothing and wait for a few hundred K more from a team that gets desperate for a goalie.

yeah yeah anti player from me shocking

There were reports that he was not overly well liked by some of his teammates in Philly due to his antics. Who knows what the truth is. This group has not looked the best mentally thus far and I'm not sure if injecting any more turbulence would be a good idea.

Putting aside the fact that the Rangers D has looked like last years Flyer defense.

He's a talented player, even if i do think the system in Phoenix made him look better than he was. Rangers need an answer no doubt.
