Nobody is really mad at him. Some posters just can't admit Dubas has made some mistakes, so they try to blame Lou.

For me, it's a paradox, because it was the perfect opportunity to let Lou be cheap on the contracts and then letting him go (bad bad GM not giving Marner what he wanted..). That would make him the perfect scapegoat...

You mean the way Sweet Lou tossed Devon Toews overboard? No, Sweet Lou would never do that...

You Lou worshipers would be losing your minds if Dubas gave away a player of Toews caliber like Lou did lmao
I'd be shocked if we had a player of Toews caliber with the way our cap structure is. Dubas and his fan club have stopped that happening.

I believe in no coincidences when it comes to Lou "being lucky". Also getting Palmiery Zajac combo? I just love it , so old school Lou. Waaay more impactful than Foligno btw.
I love Lou having success with the “lowly” Islanders just goes to show a good cook can make a great meal out of food scraps. Boy wonder, ain’t no cook that’s for damn sure......

You do realize that lou hired trotz, right?

Compare that to dubas who hired a rookie coach.

Almost seems like one gm might be better than the other, no?
It's not just that he hired his bestest buddy who was a rookie coach. It's that, as far as I'm aware, he didn't even interview a single soul. Just enhanced the country club by giving his bestest buddy the job.

And this guy has legions of spreadsheet supporters. It's mind-boggling.

They really are a cult unto themselves.......

Yeah, I'm looking at the poll with 50% Dubas support and I'm just not getting it. Why?

A new gm would have his hands tied. Dubas dug himself this hole. Might as well see it through for the next 4 years I guess

3 more years on the Nylander and Matthews contracts
4 more on Marner Tavares

There are many types of teams that can win, not just the Islanders/Bruins. Last years champs were the Lightning. What we do know is Dubas can't put together any of these teams. I don't know how he got to where he is today, but he's in completely over his head. He was gifted so much, young talent, a first overall pick in a year with a franchise player, bottomless money.... he had it all. The only thing missing was a competent GM.

If Lou was still here, we'd still be playing today

Seriously how do you give in to Marner @ 10.893x6 when Kutcherov was making 9.5x8 ?? He is Marner with a shot and does not shy away from contact. How the hell are we supposed to compete with TB when their stars are taking 2-3m less Dubie dollars? Answer, you can't.
I think the difference between Kucherov and Marner is more than a shot. Kucherov moves the puck very quickly. He's not going to pass up an empty net because it's on his backhand. But we do try to use Marner similar to how Tampa uses Kucherov. And that's the amusing part, unless you're a fan of this team.

Leo had to go though. He was horrible with the Leafs last few years. He still is.
Martin I understood why, his salary

But you had to replace them with equal types of players. Instead we keep doing this patch work year in year out. Our 4th line last year consisted of Freddy Gauthier. We have too many of these soft non competitive players, Mikaheyev, Engvall and Simmonds....... Simmonds is tough when he can get to you, eventually. By the time he gets anyehere the puck is alreayd in our zone

Martin can hit and very competitive. One thing Islanders have is competitive players. Trotz wouldn't tolerate otherwise. Lou wouldn't either

But in Dubas's world, that's welcome. Let's get players like Barabanov, Vesey, Mikaheyev, Boyd. Players who can skate, but don't compete

Good post.

I mean I am not exactly a fan of what Dubas did for this team this year...but just because we aren't happy with our current GM doesn't make Lou magically better. We all watched him whiff for a couple years throwing draft picks around for a garbage(ironically like Dubas did this year). He probably would have gotten the big 3 cheaper but would have spent the extra cap space on players that contribute absolutely nothing.

I think Lou's 35+ years in the game and 3x Stanley Cups with the modern dynasty New Jersey Devils makes him magically a lot better than Kyle Dubas, but that's not to say the philosophical underpinnings of his success (more program based blue collar programs, de-emphasizing offensive star power) is what the fanbase wants, or that people wanted to see a hard line taken with our stars. Finally, Lou being a HHOF caliber GM also doesn't preclude Kyle from eventually becoming a great GM in his own right.

I hate to keep banging the same drum but since we are comparing usage, Kucherov has never played 20 minutes a night in the regular season and the last two years Marner is 21:33 and 22:26. In the playoffs Kuch ramped it up to 21:40 for the Cup run but this playoff is under 20:00 a night. Marner under Keefe is 24:39 and 24:43 a night in the playoffs. If you play the shit out of a guy he will slow down and the smaller the guy is to start with, the less fat and muscle he has to spare. Marner isn't Draisaitl. Fresh Mitch started the season with 20 points in 12 games and that's the guy they want for the playoffs. No pk and under 20:00 TOI for the regular season. FWIW Gallant never used any of his forwards in Vegas or Florida 20:00 a night in the regular season and I don't suspect he will change this for the Leafs:)

I’d rather give Devon Toews away for nothing than give Nazim Kadri away for nothing.

Or to rephrase....

Lou was smart enough to hire an experienced, proven NHL coach to get his team playing to the best of their abilities.

It's like the universe love that fellow. Leave some of that good luck for the rest of us will you?

Isles with Barzal as their star, which on these boards is like 3/5 Marner at best. He both Zajac and Palmiery are still playing playoff hockey. Foligno golfing.

Also, Isles look like a coherent bunch with no ridiculous moustaches if anything else.

Lou made mistakes, but the narrative back in a day about Lou being too tough on these creative minds? We are looking like fools now that we wish we could send kids to military school for summer to tough em up a little.
