Didn't Dubas do exactly that this TDL and he didn't even get us past the first round and the team looked terrible at the same time.

IMO the Leafs are an underachieving team that had the potential to be great. If things clicked and players delivered, legitimate cup threat.
The Isles are good team that is good by overachieving. Better than the sum of their parts without much extra room to give. The 2000-2004 Leafs.

It took Lou 9 years to win a title with arguably the greatest goalie ever and one of the best defenders ever in Stevens. Let’s stop acting like he won it his first year as GM/President.

it’s actually nauseating

so there’s excuses for every other gm but not Dubas. Gotcha.

Even in Ballard years the team didn't lack heart and soul. Those 80s team weren't push overs, they didn't take a backseat to any team

Ballard himself was an A hole but teams were good as they can be given toxi circumstances

Dubas would have melted under Harrold and he would have made him wear mini skirt

So given the circumstance, given the resources that Dubas and company has been given they have made a joke out of this team

The league and fans knew why those teams were bad, so why this team bad ?

What excuse Dubas has has for losing to a zamboni driver? Scoring 1 goal back to back years in elimination games?

So yes. This is by far one of the worse management the Leafs had. Ballard GMs were great gms. Anytime you can manage an a hole and manage a team you are a great gm

You forget what state the NJ was in ? They were a Mikey mouse club in every sense

And shouldn't the credit of getting someone like Stevens, Niedermayer and Bordeaur fall on Lou?

Not to mention John Madden, McKay and other great players they drafted

They didn't have 3 superstars lined up for him tp work like Dubas did

Ballard's opposition to European players was so virulent that a Leafs scout used Ballard's time in jail to sign Börje Salming, one of the NHL's first great European players.

All I needed to read about this loser. Imagine comparing him to Dubas.

Don’t forget about his most important acquisition to bring in one of the greatest playoff performers in NHL history.

Hockey fans will know who I’m talking about.

John Madden from Parma Court is now a great player with his .5ppg? What?

Well when it comes to the playoffs I would at least wait until the Leafs show the potential to be competent, before being great.

Usually you spend the 1st rounder because you are either trying to get Crosby/Malkin 1 more cup before old age, or you are trying to pass the hump of an opponent like Tampa.

Never seen them used so much on a team trying to win 1 round.
Let the core prove something first, then give them help.

So much = twice? Muzzin and Foligno? Am I missing another?

I'd also say Muzzin could fall in that second category of trying to overcome an opponent (Boston)

They must be but I think they believe in their vision so much that it distorts what they see now in the playoffs, yet somebody instructed Dubas to make the team more difficult to play against this year. Sadly Dubas clearly failed at his first attempt. Stay tuned for attempt #2 this summer.

Good luck to us leaf fans.

Lou did his time in New Jersey, he is an accomplished GM respected by his peers (other club's GMs) and trusted he'll handle FAIR contract negotiations...... who did the Leafs decide to continue working with?

That's what actually nauseating.

3 years in a row. LA, Carolina, Columbus.

If Foligno walks, 3 firsts for soon to be 33 year old Jake Muzzin whose been unavailable two straight years in their most important games.

I took his comment as deadline acquisitions, but it is 3 in a row if you want to include Marleau. Not sure where recouping picks would fall in there and the Kap deal though

You probably don’t want to know.

Someone in one of the threads listed assets in vs assets out. Not really a ringing endorsement for Dubas.

All I needed to read about this loser. Imagine comparing him to Dubas.

I demonstrated that my company hired the great Borje Salming. He publicly and privately, loved and loves Harold Ballard.

Harold loved the leafs, so much that he borrowed and borrowed and overdrafted himself.

His budget and bankers hounded him all day, every day.

So yeah, he was grumpy a lot of the time.

My best friend growing up, Gord Stellick, never said a bad word about him, Salming still loves the guy.

The media painted a terrible pic of the guy, because he hated all the media cept Don Cherry's mentor, Dick Beddoes.

Was he perfect, no, but he was part of the 1967 championship team.

He overshot his mark and didn't have a lot of cash. Even Darryl Sittler on my friends podcast, Joe Tilley, admitted, that over time, he wasn't as negative about Harold, now that he knows the pressures that Harold was under.

Montreal was and is, a real serious team. Very serious. And Toronto almost beat them.

Do any Toronto fan s bring that up at all, not that I SEE.

Do we have a SHEA WEBER. or a Carey Price, Gallagher.

No.

Canadiens just smoked with ease, a team many here were leery of.

Does that get mentioned around here.
Three sides to a coin always. In terms of the real truth.

Not surprised, were really not in the asset accumulating phase
Yeah.. but if you’re not in asset accumulation, and aren’t pressing to win, you’re in the middle which is the worst spot to be in pro sports... especially without a first.

As someone who grew up in the Ballard era let me say Thank You , Theres too many know nothing Know it alls around here that have zero clue as to the world we lived in and the massive changes in global politics and economy he endured to keep our team afloat , They don't grasp that we were taught nuclear attack drills in school and our country spent billions a year holding back the Red Menace of Communism and when the NHL the International Ice hockey Federation wanted to bring Commie teams to play in Canada he alone said NFW are they playing in my building , he was a showman ala PT Barnum because he had to be and until these blowhards have accomplished even a tenth of what he did in his life they should show enough respect to just STFU

Feels like we could selloff assets tomorrow for a Kings ransom, is that the route you'd go? Dump Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Rielly, Campbell and start all over again? Can't say I'd blame you
