The problem is too extreme either side. Burke wanted everyone to be next Lucic and Dubas wants everyone to be next Datsyuk

Tempa is a perfect example of both.

I don't see that as Dubas's vision. He had size in Toronto Marlies roster when they won the Calder Cup. It's way different game adding players like Lucic to the NHL roster than it's to adding those kind of players to the AHL roster. To be skilled enough and tough, that is rare combination. You have to be also lucky to get those players.

Tampa with their taxation is bad comparison for us. Stamkos and Marner has equal salary after taxes. Something to think about.

It’s really the Leafiest thing imaginable that we can’t even fully enjoy the big bad Bruins getting owned, it had to be Lou. We’re cursed.

Quite the dilemma for Leaf fans who love everything Dubas.

Now they have to pull for our other nemesis Tampa or Lou. You can guess who Shammy and Doobler are pulling for.

Personally I hope they lay beating on the Lightning because of the Kutcherov LTIR and magically returning 100% for the playoffs.

Who the hell considers Tampa to be our nemesis?

Hope they are paying attention to what a real playoff team looks like .

They must be but I think they believe in their vision so much that it distorts what they see now in the playoffs, yet somebody instructed Dubas to make the team more difficult to play against this year. Sadly Dubas clearly failed at his first attempt. Stay tuned for attempt #2 this summer.

more like attempt number 4 , The Isles put on a master class on plaoff hockey last night and every GM that didn't already know what iy takes to win in the playoffs learned last night , Tampa is decepively tough the same way lots of get pucks deep and grind the fore check in their game as well , should be a fun series to watch .

Yup attempt #4 overall but it took two failed attempts for him to learn/agree than this team was too easy to play against. Tried to address it last summer and failed. The coaching staff and Shanny are now going to do a post mortem, figure out why they lost and address their needs this summer. It could work but if it does not, no way Dubas/Shammy survive.

Dubas wasn’t the one who brought those guys to the Marlins.

You think an NHL team is going to hire a brand new little kid as an assistant coffee fetch and just give him free reign on what players get drafted and signed as FAs?

Let’s get serious about reality.

He as in charge of Marlies. No one should take that away from him and discredit him. It was his team. Sure, we had bunch of NHL guys and Dubas won't control those, but he made those AHL trades and signings. Marlies was great team for few years in the AHL.

Really a strange mindset from a few posters here who are incapable of finding fault with anything Lou has ever done - they'll justify him leaving Jersey in shambles, leaving Toronto with shitty contracts and coach, giving away Toews in New York, etc.

And then the completely opposite for Dubas, where they won't even give him credit for something as minor as winning in AHL.

Idolatry is an unhealthy pursuit, fellas. I hope you're still around when the Isles have their shit pushed in by Tampa.

With the Leafs out, I'd very much enjoy watching Kadri and Komarov duking it out in the Finals.

Damn shame that pesky salary cap got in the way once he was gifted the NHL job.

Lou was not given the chance to hire his own coach. He inherited Babs who was hired by Shammy.

Pretty sure every member of Leaf nation would rather the Leafs have their shit pushed in" by Tampa in round #3 than suffer an epic collapse against a lousy Montreal Canadiens team in round #1.

I guess we can expect all the Dubas fanboys to come out in full force when the Isles get waxed by the Lightning saying "see I to you so", embarrassing themselves once again.

Honestly, Dubas fanboys (do we even have any on this board right now) would be entirely justified in that reaction given that we have a few threads now dedicated to sudden Lou worship.

Lou joined the team like a month after Babs - I have to imagine that he gave Shanny the nod to hire Babs. Or he agreed to join a team knowing that Babs would be the coach for the foreseeable future. Either way I can't see absolving Lou of Babs.

Ballard years needs to be exempt in my opinion. He was just a nut case

As for Brian Burke and Dave Nonis, none of them had the talent to work with as Dubas did

Dubas was given 3 superstars in this league in Matthews Marner and Tavares

Randy Carlyle and Ron Wilson number 1 center was Tyler Bozak and Tim Connelly throwing a bit of Grabvo

Just not the same

so there’s excuses for every other gm but not Dubas. Gotcha.

All I think of when ppl say this stuff is how little competitive sports you guys must of played growing up.

I don’t know a single person who gets excited losing in the semi finals. But apparently winning round 1 but losing round 3 is an accomplishment.

only one team wins a year so 30 teams are losers, whether you didn’t make the playoffs or lost in the finals.

So your prefer our fate this year over the expected fate about to come to the Isles ??

I don't really care either way, except to the extent that if we were in the 3rd round surely M&M would have had to deliver for us to get there, which would make me feel better moving forward.

But I had my fill of watching a gm spend the organizations future putting lipstick on a pig in the annual hope that a good but not great team beats the odds overcome some clear favourites to win the cup. If they win, sure all credit to Lou. If we had've won, all credit to Quinn. But we didn't, and it dug us hole that took years to climb out of. That's what I see happening here.

No one ever gets excited to lose. I've played competitive sports and let me tell you, I'd rather get done in by a superior team in the semifinals than blow a 3-1 lead to a team we were suppose to beat in the first round. Both suck but atleast one is less embarassing.

Didn't Dubas do exactly that this TDL and he didn't even get us past the first round and the team looked terrible at the same time.
