Brunet seems to be a star every game ... goal and 3 helpers nice to see.

Beautiful!

Have you had a chance to watch him play "much" time in Victoriaville?
Every game. Ask @DKH how many times I call him first thing in the morning and he asks how it's going and I said I just watched player x and player y from last night and have player z on que. It's not even 10 am and I already watched 3 from last night.

It's what happens when your old like me and have nothing but time.

We still have to get together at a game. As of now it looks like Guelph will play either Windsor or London. We should make that a series.

Many won't be interested, but hey, this is what I wrote following the Brunet pick at the draft:

For me, one of the more interesting picks the Bruins made came in the 132nd spot as they selected defenceman Frederic Brunet of the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Bruins second of four picks from the Canadian Hockey League.

Brunet is a draft re-entry after being passed over at the 2021 Entry Draft. After scoring once and adding 8 helpers in 33 games during the 2020-2021 campaign, Brunet exploded for 12 goals and 34 assists in 64 games this season. With an August 21 birthdate, he was one of the youngest players available for the 2021 draft and was ranked 214 among North American skaters.

But it wasn’t just Brunet’s stats that had a marked improvement. Call him a late bloomer or any other adjective you can think of, but there wasn’t an area of Brunet’s game that did not show progression over a season ago and it showed in his NHL Central Scouting rankings as he jumped from 221 on their mid-term rankings to 113 on their final rankings. I had him pegged as a late 5th or early 6th rounder but am fine with where the Bruins picked him.

Brunet had some adjusting to do with his body that might answer some questions about whether he is a late bloomer. When he was drafted at the 2019 QMJHL draft, Brunet measured just 5’11” and today he stands 6’3”. That is a major growth spurt that would take anyone time to adjust.

Ohio State is on Big Ten Network tonight in case anyone wants to watch "a defensive blueliner" who "plays a physical brand of hockey".....and also Mason Lohrei.

That's not to say his defense hasn't improved this year (it has, from my viewings) or that he's not occasionally physical, but it's a really odd way to describe him when his standout attribute is clearly his offensive skill.

Totally agree. I've watched four or five of his games. He has a good stick and long reach, and is strong offensively, but I've never seen him be especially defensive and certainly not physical. To me, he's a sell-high guy in a trade, if the B's feel they must make a trade. I wouldn't favor trading him, because he has room to grow defensively, but better him than a first-round pick.

He is just on another level right now. Two assists on the afternoon mid way thru the game

Hi DOM ... are you able to provide a comparable play style?

I said it before and I'll say it again - if Brunet turns out to be productive player for the Bruins then the best part is that Montreal had 8 chances to pick him in that 2022 NHL Draft. You would think that based on his last name alone they would have grabbed him at #127 or #130 before Boston picked him at #132.

My understanding of the NCAA rules is no he can not. I can't think of any examples where a player has. Maybe @Saxon Eric can come up with an example better than I could but I am pretty sure it's not allowed.

That's in response to @Kegs Asking if Locmelis can play in Providence after his J20 season.

Quotes are messed up

Can’t wait to see him play in North America. Any chance he gets some reps in providence this year?

Is he eligible? He’s supposedly coming over next season to play for UMASS so my guess is if he were to play for Providence, he’d be ineligible for NCAA.

But it’s just a guess and I’m wrong more often than not.

Edit:

@DominicT beat me to it

It's complicated
Not supposed to but a lot of Swedish U-20 kids play a game or 2 for their professional teams and when the NCAA eventually finds out they'll suspend them for a game or 2, Jellvik got caught this year, a few years ago they'd have to sit out the whole year
The current 3rd leading scorer in the NCAA played for the Erie Otters ,different situation but it shows times are changing
All that said don't think Locmelis risks it
