Back to Brunet for a minute....

Not so much here but I see it a lot on social media. And that is the complaints that Brunet is an "overager". Not as bad as all the stuff that went around the internet about Mason Lohrei, but it's still there.

Was Brunet passed over in 2021? Yes there is no denying that. But he only made 2021 draft eligibility by 25 days.

There is still a long path to the NHL, if he ever gets there, but there is reason for optimism.

I honestly thought when Lohrei shut everyone up that we would be past this. Apparently not.

Anyway, its hockey day in the OHL. Lots of hockey today.

Dumb question. If he was born a month later and didn't have to do with the overager tag. Do we think he would have gone higher, or do we think his draft position was consistent with where he was as a prospect at that point. Obviously his value has increased fairly substantially since the draft

Tough question really. If he was born a month later, he likely starts his QMJHL career a year later. And then dealing with the covid seasons it's hard to say how scouts would have reacted.

My best guess is he probably goes a round higher.

I’ll take the round later and overage nonsense. He looks like a player at this point. Maybe he amounts to nothing but you have to love the progression thus far.

I get asked often enough to make a case for Brett Harrison playing wing or playing center. Today, I will make the case for him to be a winger. A couple of weeks ago, when I was speaking here about Frederic Brunet I said “when you put good players with good players, great things will happen”. And that’s precisely the case with Harrison.

Since being acquired by the Windsor Spitfires and the team subsequently acquired Shane Wright, Harrison has been playing predominantly on Wright’s left side – except when Wright is out with an injury. He missed 3 games, came back for a period and went out again forcing Coach Marc Savard to put Harrison back in the middle.

In the games that Harrison has played with Wright (leaving out the one period in Wright’s return) Harrison has 7 goals and 5 assists in 6 games. In 7 games without Wright, Harrison has just 2 goals and 2 assists in those games.

Does Frederic Brunet go pro this year? Sorry if u already answered this somewhere.
Yes. However, he is eligible for an overage year of junior so the Bruins can sign him, loan him back to Victoriaville and have his contract slide.

I have not looked to see what Victoriaville's overage situation is like for next season, so the Bruins may have to do some negotiating there.

Right. I wasn’t really putting that into play for obvious reasons.
Well, I have been following hockey for 60 plus years and have seen stranger things happen than Poitras making the big club's roster. If there is one thing I have learned it's to never say never.

Understood. Him making the Bruins main roster wasn’t really the spirit of the question which is why I said that but of course he could be the 3C or 4LW or whatever and make the question moot.

Are the rankings based on ceiling ? Or nhl probability? Or maybe how close they are to the nhl ?
