Swift Current isn't good,in fact I hate watching them, worst team since Riley Duran's Youngstown squad, just awful hockey
And they aren't even the worst team in the WHL. Edmonton who was close to winning the Memorial Cup last year has 19 points in 54 games. Swift Current has 53. It doesn't help that they have given up 256 goals this year

You want bad? Season tix holder to the Victoria Royals and man, is this a tough team to watch. Now, they were decimated with injury from day 1 with Bruins invite Brayden Schuurman and Gannon Laroque injured so much this year, hard working team but just aren`t close to being even a team who pushes a stronger one in a playoff series. No playoffs this year, I do like their post WJHC addition of Robin Sapousek who is draft eligible but very green

No idea how Dan Price keeps his job here even with those injuries, horrible at making in game adjustments

Highlight of the year was watching Connor Bedard roll into town

Absolutely. You have to wonder if this is a good thing for a goalie as well. Sometimes the rubber is great, others it just ruins their confidence and they never recover.

Having spoken to Dyck, I think his head is on right so i am hopeful

Thursday Night Recap

Brunet 1 shot -2 3-2 win

Harrison 4 shots 6-2 loss

On Wednesday Maine lost to Idaho 3-1,DiPietro the backup, funny that Maine traveled so far yet our AHL team can't cross the Hudson river

Lorhei and Ohio State finishing up the regular season this weekend, they look to be in decent shape for the NCAA quarter finals regardless how their conference playoffs go

Same for BU and Harvard

BC,PC,Minnesota Duluth, North Dakota and Clarkson basically need to win their conferences to gain entry, I'm not optimistic...

wasn't always that way..... Maine was like Providence more so.... but that's more the AHL than the individual teams.... Maine is still out there for FRI/SAT.... it's also the first time a Portland based franchise has played Atlanta and Idaho consecutively since joining the ECHL

So question here. If they do choose to sign Mantkivi before the deadline to sign. I would assume they would sign him to a 2023 contract? Or would they be required to actually count him immediately against the 2022 contracts.

Wondering as my understanding when they signed Beecher and most of the college players my understanding is they give them AHL short term contracts for the end of the year , and then contracts starting the following season, which to my understanding means they don;t go against this years 50, only next year

Because MM plays in the Finnish Liiga, he is governed by IIHF rules. IIHF rules state that any player signed to a contract in an IIHF sanctioned league can opt out of their contract with that league to sign an NHL contract.

Why is that important?

MM signed an extension with Ilves Tampere several months ago that take him until the end of the 2023-2024 season. His General Manager at the time said that they wanted to extend him in the event that he doesn't sign an NHL contract and he didn't want another Finnish team signing him. In other words, he has the team's blessing to sign an NHL contract.

That said, its part of the NHL/IIHF transfer agreement. It covers the NHL and not the AHL therefore he can not opt out of his Ilves contract to sign an AHL contract.

He can sign an NHL contract for the 2023-2024 season.
