Well done. Very hard list to do.

Personally, I don't have Donato below #4. I'd also have Johansson in the top10.

seems like donato is starting to take that next step. will be a big year for him at harvard, without vesey around...as for johansson, i'm not comfortable putting him in the top 10 just yet (especially without seeing his camp performance). obviously a few of you guys mentioned he was a standout, and hopefully he can parlay that into a big year in sweden. he's absolutely on the rise for me - perhaps 21 is a little unfair, but his body of work hasn't been terribly impressive on the whole overseas. let's see where he is midseason.

21 is fair for now. Bring a development camp standout on D for a few days only gets him the Ryan Button award, we need to see more from the larger body of work.

Really? In this group? What is your top 10? I'd have the following:

1. McAvoy
2. Heinen
3. Carlo
4. Lauzon
5. Zboril
6. JFK
7. Senyshn
8. DeBrusk
9, Bjork
10. Subban

HM: Donato, Grzelcyk, Vladar

1-7 was pretty easy for me (3-7 are virtually interchangeable, McAvoy and Heinen are standouts). It gets hard around 8. For example, Donato plays a similar game to DeBrusk, and I could see an argument that Ryan has more skill, but DeBrusk really is far more accomplished at this stage even though he is slightly younger. My heart also tells me that Vladar will be better than Subban, but there's not enough basis for that yet.

I'm really curious how you fit Johansson in the top 10, and get Donato above my top 4.

WILMINGTON, Mass. – The wait was worth it for Sean Kuraly.

After being acquired in a trade last summer, the 23-year-old winger could have inked a contract with the Boston Bruins and skipped his senior season at Miami University.

Instead, Kuraly went back to school, captained the RedHawks last winter, signed with the Bruins in March and graduated in May with a degree in management and leadership.

Now he’s set to start his pro career. While he could earn a fourth-line job with Boston in training camp in September, he’s probably ticketed for the Providence Bruins to start the 2016-17 season. Down the road, he projects to be a two-way NHL forward with size and decent scoring touch.

“I’ve got my college degree. There’s no looking back. It’s all hockey now,’’ Kuraly said at Boston’s development camp last week. “School was great, I’m glad I went, but I’m really excited for what’s next.’’

Kevin Dean Named Head Coach Of Providence Bruins
BOSTON, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, ‪July 18, that the Bruins have named Kevin Dean the Head Coach of the Providence Bruins. Dean recently completed his fifth season as an assistant coach of the Providence Bruins in 2015-16. During his tenure as an assistant coach in Providence, the team has compiled a ‪207-128-45 overall record in 380 games, including winning seasons in all five years and postseason berths in each of the previous four seasons.

The 47-year-old native of Madison, WI, also spent five seasons as a coach in the New Jersey Devils organization, including four seasons as an assistant coach for the Lowell Devils (AHL) and one season as head coach of the Trenton Devils (ECHL). Dean also enjoyed a successful playing career, competing in 331 NHL games with Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta and New Jersey. In his playing career he compiled 7 goals and 48 assists for 55 points with 138 penalty minutes. Prior to his professional career, Dean played four seasons at the University of New Hampshire posting 14 goals and 36 assists for 50 total points in 137 games.

He was drafted by New Jersey in the fifth round (86th overall) of the 1987 NHL Entry Draft.

Kevin Dean officially announced as Head Coach this morning. I'd post the link from the Bruins site but it isn't working atm.

No surprise here. Looked like Dean was in charge of all the on-ice stuff at Development Camp. From what I have heard, he is well-regarded as a coach and well-like by the players, which is usually a good combination.

BRUINS' LONG-TERM FUTURE ON DEFENSE LOOKS BRIGHT
http://www.csnne.com/boston-bruins/boston-bruins-long-term-future-on-defense-looks-bright

“[Defense has] been an area of need that we wanted to address," said general manager Don Sweeney. "It’s something I identified in taking over, that we hadn’t drafted a lot of players in the first two rounds of previous drafts on the back end. So it was an area we targeted . . .

“These [defensemen] are all going to grow up together, and be a big part of our future going forward. You add [those younger guys] to Matt Grzelcyk and Robbie [O’Gara] coming out of college that are a little older. It’s a good group.

"Patience is a word that’s not readily thrown around in this marketplace, and I understand that. We’re in a competitive business, and we want to win every year. But you have to grow your players, I firmly believe that and I’ve been committed to that since I took over the job. Working in development, I have always believed that the internal search is the best place to find your players. I think we’re in a much stronger player to allow these players [to succeed], and they have to hit. If they don’t [hit] then that’s on us fr misidentifying them.â€

Speaking solely as a fan of insanity, if DeBrusk gets sent to juniors as an overager - hoo-boy, this place will be jumping.

Kirk did a great job with both of those writeups.

I think I would send him back if he doesn't make Boston or isn't traded

I'd agree if he were still as thin as he was his draft year. Haven't seen anyone mention him looking like a beanpole, though.

There should be a pretty good reason to send a 20 year old to be coached by someone outside your organization's influence.

Really like this move. Get him in the organization and start prepping him to be the next coach in Boston...whenever the need may arise.

Is he really an overager this year? I thought it went by age at the start of the season, and DeBrusk would be 19. I don't see any reason to think it is more of a big deal (in a negative or implied negative sense) if he were to be sent to the juniors than if Senyshyn, Lauzon, Gabrielle or ZBoril is

Kirk's rankings show the depth 41 guys rated. I don't agree with every ranking, but it just really shows the depth in the system.

They don't use the start of the season for the age cutoff. It is December 31st.

The difference between DeBrusk and those others is the number of seasons playing in major junior. Senyshyn, Lauzon and the rest have completed three seasons. DeBrusk has already completed four, which is why the CHL would consider him an overager according to their roster rules.

The wiki I looked at was wrong, you are right. The age is by year. One thing Debrusk has only played 3 years while the others 2.

Still I am not sure i care where he plays

Bleacher Report just came out with its top 50 prospects. McAvoy is only bruin on the list at 31.

No idea how credible this ranking is but was surprised not to find any of the 2015 selections, or Heinen, Subban..

Not sure how the Bleacher Report has Nick Schmaltz at 37 and Heinen unranked? They played in the same conference, and these are the numbers:

Schmaltz at UND:

2014-15: 38 games, 5g/21a

2105-16: 37 games, 11g/35a

Heinen at DEN:

2014-15: 40 games, 16g/29a

2015-16: 41 games, 20g/28a

Luke Kunin at #34? Really?

Mike McLeod at #27?

The majority of the Top 20 is made up of player's drafted this year. Jost and Keller above Timo Meier? Lots of inconsistencies for me on this list.

Without question. The guy had a horrible injury that knocked him off track for a substantial part of the season and then had to adjust to a new team. Why not send him back to give him the opportunity to dominate at that level and gain confidence?
