With Krug and Mcavoy in the top 4 already, I'd be more interested in seeing another two-way defender with some nasty playing with them in the future. So style wise Zboril would be my choice to keep for that top 4. We'd have a good mix of offense and defense.

I'm also a big fan of Lauzon. He is Zboril's main competition for that LD spot IMO. Lauzon would complement Carlo's style of play, and Zboril would complement McAvoy. If everything plays out that would be a great top 4 for the next 5 years.

Seadogs posted a well deserved a 4-0 win in game #2 of the Q final.

Zboril had a fairly typical game with good defending, a few hits and occasionally jumping into the play on scoring opportunities. Continues to move the puck well out of his own zone. Saw some PP time again and paired with Chabot. A good comparison on how they compliment each other is thinking of Zboril being to Chabot as Chicago's Seabrook is to Keith.

Couldn't watch the first two game of the final. How was he use? I watched every game from the semi and he looked to be their #3 dman behind Chabot who is their workhorse in every situation and Bourque who generally saw 1st PP unit and 1st PK unit. Was it pretty much the same?

From what I saw against Chicoutimi, He played well, wasn't getting beat as much as I remember At that level he is not a take charge kind of player but he is doing his job quietly. I'm just not sure how he will translate to the Pro game. he doesn't have much offensive upside to me, he is better when he keep things very simple and while he is physical, he is not a dominant defensive presence like Carlo was at that level.

Lauzon has a fair amount of nasty in his game too from what little I've seen.

Didn't Zboril have 41 pts in 50 regular season games (and 7 pts in 14 playoff games)? That would indicate to me anyway that he has some offensive upside, even if D is his main thing.

I don't know, I might be harsh a little, but I'm not seeing the poise, decision making in the Ozone, generally (to me at least) or he keep it really simple or he put himself in bad situation, there's not enough middle ground.

For his production, it would be great if he did that with some other team, but he's 8th in the season and 10th in the playoff in scoring for the Dogs and he do play on every PP 2nd units for the power house, so of course he's gonna put up points but he's more of a passenger than a driver on the unit imho.

He`s got a sneaky offensive game Glory, at least on the SeaDogs where they turn to Chabot to grab the puck and carry it often, Zboril has a sublime first pass. Once in the offensive zone though, Zboril more than holds his own.

He`s worked a ton on his D and it shows, really hoping it will translate to the pro game, I expect he`ll be in Providence next year but who knows, having a deep run as they are involved in right now will be another great stepping stone for the kid.

I like Lauzon alot too, but I`ll admit I love the nasty Zboril brings, problem is, he needs to reign it in at time. Lauzon has a bit of nasty to him as well but not like Zboril and Lauzon, like Chabot, is more likely to take the puck up ice himself to create. The kid is good. Fans who like to get brought out of their seats with excitement will like Lauzon`s game over Zboril`s which tends to be approached a bit more methodically

appreciate all the feedback on zboril from someone who sees him. he always had a bit of a roman hamrlik feel to me - if he hit his total upside. a guy who had good size, moved the puck, played good D. not an elite offensive producer (hamrlik had some pretty good years offensively, but the mid-40 point years in the 1990s probably translates a good bit lower now).

This is pure speculation on my part, but I don't think (offensively) we have seen all Zboril has to offer. He (rightfully so) defers to Chabot when it comes to the O part of the game, but when he (Chabot) was not in the lineup, JZ handled that role capably. Chabot, as dynamic as he can be, is not a great defender. I'm still excited about Zboril because he can already play D, which is typically where these young guys struggle. I don't think that either will step in and have the type of impact McAvoy did, but I can see Zboril and Lauzon being staples on the left side in a few years.

With a Krug there and some other options (like O'Gara and Lindgren down the road) in the pipeline, I wouldn't be shocked if one of Zboril or Lauzon is moved (for a Top 4 D that is already NHL ready and can take Chara's place).

There was lots of mixing and matching. He played with both Chabot in some situations and Bourque, or others, as called for at times as often can happen with penalties for and against as well as with injuries. It was not an area I was watching closely or had a concern with. He also left the game for a period of time with an apparent leg injury. Felt his assignment was more about who the opposition had on the ice. He excelled on the defensive side of his assignment while still looked to be involved in the offence. Did not see game one so unsure how it unfolded.

He may not be as dominant as Carlo at this stage (never saw Carlo play in junior) but would suggest he is a far more complete player on both side of the puck than Carlo is at this stage. Not worried about him finding his way into the league and having success. More a matter of how much grooming may or may not be required at the pro level and what opportunities exist when he does make the jump.

We all see players a little differently when we watch them play. Doesn't necessarily translate into being right or wrong with the assessment. Will keep an eye out for the areas you asked about should I get an opportunity to see another game in the series. Appreciate your insights.

It's possible, but that would be Zboril max upside. Hamrlik was a REALLY good dmen who did everything at an above average level. From where he is now, Zobril as no more chance of finishing as a Hamrlik than a Gudas imho but would absolutely love if he could end up a solid #2 like that.

I don't see how BB could beat them, SJ are really in a league of their own in the Q since the deadline, they even win when not playing their A game. Really pump up to see them in the Memorial Cup as like always there's impressive power house coming from the two other league.

I know everyone likes to feel better about prospects by comparing them to other prospects/players, but I'm not feeling the Gudas comparison at all.

He played one season in Junior as a 19 year old in the WHL and had 37 pts in 65 games (.57 ppg) with 151 PIM's. He has 150+ PIM's in 6 of his 7 full seasons in North America (93 this year). Zboril has played three seasons in the Q with 94 pts in 144 games (.63 ppg), but he has 74 of those points in two seasons (.79 ppg), with only 20 points last year. He has 174 PIM's total in three years. Gudas puts that up in one season. Zboril has a nasty edge to his game, but he is nowhere near as physical as Gudas, and is a MUCH better skater.

I spent a couple of minutes thinking about Zboril, and couldn't come up with a comparison I was comfortable with. Granted, I have not seen much of him other than highlights, the WJC, and Dev Camp, so I don't have a huge point of reference.

Hamhuis has a similar build, skating style and physical edge to his game, while also chipping in offensively. To be honest I've never really seen zborils shot. At the wjc to me he was czechs best player and was a real physical presence with good skating and hard passes.

His ceiling is high though if he puts his skills together although hitting his ceiling is unlikely another player with those attributes is roman josi

Would agree. Hard for the BB firefighters to hold back the SJ firepower. It's the classic best defence against the best offence. Getting to the memorial cup would allow for a better viewing opportunity with Zboril for fans. The World Juniors was not ideal given the high end prospect was playing on a not so good national team. It's a far different setting at the Mem Cup.

Not entirely settled on who may be a good comparable. As mentioned in an earlier post, see him complimenting a player who would be more offence first type player. That comparable would be along the lines as Seabrook does with Keith. It's not that the has no offencive upside, it's more that his defensive skills are his strength.

Everything you say is true, but he didn't really compare Zboril to Gudas, just saying he as the same chance to finish as a Gudas than as a Hamrlik (both of them having little in common other than being Czech defender). What I'm saying is Zboril is kind of a "complete" defensemen who doesn't excelle more at offense or at defense and it's too soon for me to predict if he'll finish above average at offense and defense like Hamrlik or below average at offense and defense like Gudas.

Watched the 3rd game of the Q final tonight. SJ wins it 2-0, the 2nd goal being an empty net. First time I could see it on HD tv and not on a stream. Chabot is amazing, he played 35-40 minutes tonight no doubt, he's playing in every situation, with everyone and on both side (left-right).

That bring me to a point, I think I can understand better how Zboril might have been frustrated last year and how Green ask to be traded this year. Coach is giving so many minutes to Chabot, every other guy is playing only a somewhat limited role, even Bourque and Zboril who are repectively "probably" in the top 5 and top 10 of defensemen in the Q imho. Don't get me wrong, Chabot is WAY better than them at that level and nobody would trade 1 Chabot to get 2 Zboril or 2 Bourque on his team, but I suspected it's kinda a little bit harder for the kids to get their head to the game. Zboril dosen't have any major role, he is not playing on any of the go to special team, he is not use for decisive situation if they need a goal or if the want to protect a goal (I suspect it was the same for Green).

I would love to see him have more opportunities at crunsh time. Can someone tell me if he had more of those opportunities before SJ got Bourque at the deadline?
