Zach Leach breaks down the players to watch in this years QMJHL final series. He captures Seadogs Zboril's game/role for his team very well with this quote:

Jakub Zboril, Saint John Sea Dogs/Boston Bruins

"Luckily, the Sea Dogs have had an answer for some of the top offensive talent in the QMJHL this year (and last year and the year before that) in Czech defenseman Zboril. A 2015 first-round pick of the Bruins, Zboril is known as one of the best two-way defenseman in the league. A dominant force in the neutral zone, Zboril can carry the puck and fire a hard shot on goal and then speed back to his own end for a hard check as well. In a league that has historically been fast-moving and high-offense, Zboril has helped to keep scoring down in Saint John for the visitors. He also gets on the board himself with 41 points in 50 games this season. One of a number of elite Boston defensive prospects, enjoy Zboril dominating the juniors while you can, because he’ll be turning pro after the season."

every now and again people want to rip our team for not being able to develop kids into nhl players

this is a team of active players who all played their first nhl game in our uniform (let me know if any other franchise can touch this)

david pastrnak/patrice bergeron/brad marchand
phil kessel/tyler seguin/blake wheeler
david krejci/joe thornton/milan lucic
nate thompson/vladamir sobotka/joe colburne
ryan spooner/carl soderberg

dougie hamilton/kevin miller
charlie mcavoy/adam macquaid
brandon carlo/torey krug
mark stuart

tuuka rask
zane mcintyre

little unproven at backup goalie... too many right hand shot dmen... but look at that top 9 scoring depth. who says the team cant develop elite level forwards?

people can say julien hated skill kids... can say chiarelli couldnt draft... could say alot of crap but this lineup speaks for itself

truth is we know how to get kids and turn them into nhl pros

The sad part about all that is the players on that list that we didn't have the foresight to retain...

I'll admit, like Sobotka is for some here, I had a binky for Soderberg. He frustrated at times, but I liked him. Particularly for a guy with one eye.

I'm actually with you, I had a man crush on him for whatever reason. That being said with how he is playing for the Avs we really dodged a bullet.

Watching him play there makes me think he just wants to collect a paycheck and go back to Sweden, he has no interest in the cup IMO.

Just finish watching the US lose againt Germany.
U.S. were the better team, had more chances and the better one, just couldn't finish.

McAvoy was amazing, didn't play much in the first two period but then the coachs realize it would be smart to play him more. He missed two chance in the slot, one were he was stoped the other he miss the net. Also set up two grade A+++ chance with cross crease pass, one where Shmaltz(I think it was him) shot on the outside of the net and the other where Dvorak just fans on his one timer. Great, great game by him and he'll defenetly have more ice time next game imho.

Bjork is the extra foward. On some theam they rotate on the fourth line to make use of the extra foward ... well not on this team. I taught I only saw him one time in the 1st then I saw on the boxscore he also had an 11 sec shift in the 2nd ... Less than a minute of ice time for him today, so yah ...

Its kind of amazing. If you go on the premise that they have 5 top 6 players; marchy, bergy, pasta,dk,backes. One hole in the top six to fill, dk's lw. They have a combo of debrusk, heinen(looked smart), cehlarik(looked good) bjork(maybe), jfk(id like him to start in the bottom 6 or on bergys wing) and vatrano(needs a healthy offseason).

The bottom six is always less hard and expensive to fix and hopefully with a cassidy team youth is the motto. So they have the leftovers of who doesnt make dk's wing and kuraly in the mix along with the schaller, nash and moore. Beleskey can be pegged as the 4th or 3rd line wing if they can't trade/vegas him.

Hayes is gone for the betterment of the team.

With the prospects we have a full top4 again.

Chara-carlo
krug-macavoy
miller/morrow(gone)/killer/mcq

Not including zboril, lauzon, o'gara etc making the roster.

Gryz might be a darkhorse as well.

The youth has come and makes trading for a $$$ player seem restricting especially with a fair amount of 30+yr old 5+ mill contracts. It doesn't appear anyone is due for a regression in terms of prospects. Unless bergys ulcer affects him more they should be poised to make some real noise.

If they hit on 2/3 more prospects as top 6 forwards or top 4 dman they will be set for a while.

Gabrielle and senyshyn should get some seasoning in the ahl unless they show something more than the debrusks and hienens.

This year was a start with the next generation of the team coming together. Next year will really show what they need for the future. If sweeney can learn how to really win some trades he has put together quite the farm system compared to what we had.

Can you recall who provided the review? To some degree it's always subjective no matter who the author.

From watching him the past 3 seasons in SJ the review by Leach is fairly accurate. He is not relied upon as the D man to generate the offence of this deep, deep team. That task falls to Chabot and rightly so. As good as Chabot is offensively, Zboril is as good defensively. If there is an omission in the review it would be Zboril's penchant for taking bad penalties. It has been an area he has improved upon as he has matured. Tends to happen when he does get beat and tries to recover or when he doesn't like the treatment he received from an position player. A very physical player who our fellow poster ODAAT refers to it as some snarl he has in his game. I would agree. As with any player facing the oppositions best players he will get beat form time to time in one on one situations or getting caught chasing or watching the puck. A coachable part of most young players game.

The Dogs prevailed 6-3 in the opening game of the Q finals last night. Unfortunately did not see the game. Score sheet stastically shows a quite night. No G or A, one minor and -1 on the night.

Should you have access to Sportsmet 360 they will carry Zboril's SJ Seadogs and BB Armadas game #2 of the Q final. Start time is 6PM EDT.

Couple of NHL draft eligible players. Centerman Cedric Pare with SJ and LW'er Joel Tesdale and Denfenc man Antione Creig-Belzille for BBA. Very much the norm for junior championship competing rosters to be dominated with 19 year old players as both are in this case. By default, not many who are draft eligible this year will play in this one.

Definitely watching Zboril tonight. By the sounds of it he's the two way defender we need post Chara. Hope he breaks into the NHL next season on the bottom pairing.

Uh-oh. Late hit to Zboril's knee, doesn't look too good.

Edit: He's back - just laid a huge hit.

not sure I`d pencil him in as a top 2 but I think, if he works hard on his game and develops he could slide into a second pairing role....if he isn`t traded which I wouldn`t be shocked if it were to happen

Just hearing about his two-way play and physicality has me excited. I wonder who the Bruins hold in higher regard, Lauzon or Zboril? I would think they would keep the one they project higher.

This is a good question. Zboril was the higher pick but everything that has been said and posted about Lauzon is that he may be the better player when it's all said and done. Definitely a good problem to have.

I think basically the Bruins brass if the right deal comes about will give the other team a choice between the two of them. Given the fact that they already have McAvoy and Carlo on board. You group those two with whoever stays and this will give them an extremely strong defensive unit for yrs to come considering their other depth at the position as well.

yeah no clue, if and when you watch the two of them play, Lauzon has all those sexy qualities but in all the games I have seen him live (probably a dozen) I still come away with having concerns about him in his own zone. Too often I watched much smaller Mooseheads players fight their way in front of the net and him not doing enough to get them out of their or at least make them uncomfortable.

Zboril is the opposite, that said, different style of players IMO, I think Zboril definitely can move the puck up ice quickly, Lauzon more likely to be the guy who will carry it with Zboril using his strong passing to do so.

Offensively I think Lauzon is more naturally gifted. I dunno, I fell in love with the nasty side Zboril brings. I think both have solid upside, you just never know which one of them will be ready first.

With Krug and Mcavoy in the top 4 already, I'd be more interested in seeing another two-way defender with some nasty playing with them in the future. So style wise Zboril would be my choice to keep for that top 4. We'd have a good mix of offense and defense.

Seadogs posted a well deserved a 4-0 win in game #2 of the Q final.

Zboril had a fairly typical game with good defending, a few hits and occasionally jumping into the play on scoring opportunities. Continues to move the puck well out of his own zone. Saw some PP time again and paired with Chabot. A good comparison on how they compliment each other is thinking of Zboril being to Chabot as Chicago's Seabrook is to Keith.
