Because both are/will be in demand. Expecting Boston to get them both (regardless of when they are FAs) given the likely impact on the cap and the current situation on defense now and going forward doesn't make much sense unless you're just a complete fan/homer who isn't considering the economic realities of the modern NHL.

Do I really have to explain this?

I had a feeling this may be the case. I like both players in addition to a few other NCAA defensemen out there and I'm obsessed with having as much defensive depth as possible for the future.

All that said Folin is a player I think could be a strong, strong player for the Bruins. Has an excellent combination of skills.

My sentiments as well.

If the Bruins get Folin that would be quiet a coup. I don't know much about him but he is Swedish, plays D, is in the Bruins backyard and my boss who is a season ticket holder and his wife (she is the director at UMass Lowell media) and others have told me they have seen Chiarelli, Sweeney, all the Boston boys at many recent games- gee, I wonder why they are there? I think he told me they were there last Friday night even- or one of my other friends who were at the game, but I remember as soon as I heard that it was likely why. Yah, they seem like they are tracking him pretty good.

Get Soderberg and Eriksson to give him a recruitment call.

Why are you so down on this kid ? You made mention on the main board he was a waste of a contract.

What can you tell us about him ?

A waste of a contract would be signing Mitchell Dempsey, Sexton signing is ok in my book

I agree, except for the Bartkowski part.

I'm not the biggest Bartkowski guy, but he's played an important role at times when everyone and their brother was getting hurt and we were forced to play Zach Trotman and Warsofsky on multiple nights.

I don't find these "Elite Prospects" scouting blurbs to be the most accurate, but if this is correct, Frolin sounds just like what the B's usually look for? Also, he played two years for the Austin Bruins of the NAHL already, so he's a shoo-in for Boston

I don't share this opinion at all, and think that Bart has been the best overall D-man of the young guys to this point. You may disagree, which is fine, but why does it seem as if his name is at the top of the list for every trade rumor that comes down the pike?

Last year, CGY wanted him for Iggy.

This year he was rumored to be the D going back to VAN for Edler.

I had hear that both NY and PHI liked him as well. If he sucks so bad, why do multiple teams always seem to be asking for him?

Edler-Folin pairing next year

Not sure about that ;), but when Brickley was on WEEI the other day, he said he would not be surprised to see both the Kesler and Edler talks being revisited by the Pens and B's prior to the draft. There is plenty of examples where deals fell through at the deadline, but the talks laid the foundation for the deals to be consummated later on.

I think it was Chia who said the same thing, even though nothing big happened at the deadline, he laid the foundation for future trades. I'm guessing he was talking about Edler, makes too much sense.

what's your D look like next year with edler? obviously a ton of money has to be moved out to make the whole roster work...assume spooner and bart are part of that package.

Blidh have been playing really well in the playoffs so far, one goal and one assist tonight, and is using his body well in the physical play.

Edit: This was his first goal in the SHL. Also won the board battle leading up to the first goal, no assist there though.

Highlights, Blidh is #18

Obtaining Edler is a significant move. If it came to pass the defense could look like this.

Chara - Seidenberg
Edler - Hamilton
Krug - Miller

Morrow - Trotman

Not sure this is the right thread for this, but I didn't want to blow Nugs off.

I assume you dealt Boychuck? I'm guessing that's what the B's would do as well, but the Cap is going up 7 mil, so they might be able to keep JB?

Chara - Dougie
Edler - Sides
Krug- JB
Miller

That would be an unbelievable D, but more likely:

Chara - Dougie
Edler - Sides
Krug - Miller/McQuaid

I think Dougie a year older will be able to handle top pairing minutes and Sides' rock-solid D would be a great compliment to Edler's offensive game. Same for Miller and Krug.

I'd love to see Boychuk retained and I love your "unbelievable D", but I assumed they wouldn't be able to afford him if they decided to acquire Edler.

Either of those defenses would be really good.

A little bit of a cross-thread discussion here. Kirk was discussing the possible signing of Bowling Green FA Ryan Carpenter (who was at B's DC last summer), and I was wondering how many players the B's have under contract for next season after signing draft pick Ben Sexton to an ELC.

According to CapGeek, the Bruins have 31 players already under contract for next year, 12 RFA's and 8 UFA's (for a total of 51):

http://www.capgeek.com/bruins/

List of RFA's (guys that may not be back in red):

Matt Bartowski D
Torey Krug D
Reilly Smith RW
Jordan Caron RW
Tommy Cross D

Craig Cunningham C
Justin Florek LW
Matt Fraser LW
Niklas Svedberg G
Zach Trotman D
David Warsofsky D
Tyler Randell RW

List of UFA's (potential non-returnees in red):

Jarome Iginla RW
Shawn Thornton RW
Andrej Meszaros D
Corey Potter D
Chad Johnson G
Nick Johnson RW
Blake Parlett D
Mike Moore D

So, that's potentially 9 of the 51 not coming back, or 42 players under contract. I don't doubt that I (or CapGeek) might be missing a few players?

The reason I went through this was because the NCAA Hockey brackets were posted and Cornell's season is officially over. I wonder if a guy like Ferlin is in the B's plans for next year? He has a year of eligibility left, but will be 22 this June. Based on the number of RW's that are FA's, and also the way Ferlin was portrayed on Behind the B, I could see him turning pro this year rather than next?

It looks like the B's would still have a few spots if they want to pursue guys like Carpenter and Frolin?

Q. Could we see another Carl Soderberg like situation come training camp in Sept? A: Yes.

Incoming Chudinov?

B's depth on D is very good, and Dom never names Chud specifically. Obviously have not seen him play, but is he good enough to step right in with the D that is already here. Is there another Euro player it could be??

If Chud does come over, something will have to give this offseason.

I can't imagine anyone else in the system who would have a similar path like Soderberg.

People in the twitter comments suggest Cehlarik but that isn't a Soderberg-like situation.

Agree, plus I'm not sure Cehlarik is ready to play Ahl hockey on a regular basis anyway.

From that good old 2007 summer super series between U20 Canada and Russia, Chudinov was, to me, really not that far of Voynov. Of course they have taken a different developpement path, one in North America and the other in Russia and that was a long time ago. Can't say if he could become something here if he come, but from that 2007 super serie, a 17yo Chudinov was waaay better than a 19yo Alexandrov, so I'd expect him to be better here than Yuri. Well if he make the move, but that's still exciting.
