Sad to say, but between a high ankle sprain, torn knee ligaments, and a broken leg, the broken leg might of been the best possible outcome.

He's out a while, which is a shame. But he's not done for the season depending on how deep the Bruins go, and shouldn't have too many lingering affects in the long-term.

Poor kid.

The way he went down reminded me of Kelly’s injury.

Put screws/plates in and rehab the hell out of it.
Kelly's was bizarre. It was like he just fell for no reason. When they said he broke his femur, I was afraid they'd find it was cancer, like Dave Dravecky. Thankfully that wasn't the case.

But poor Carlo with a busted leg right before the playoffs. :( Hopefully it's just the bone and no ligament damage to go with it.

Well if everyone is right... 6-8 weeks in PO, coming back will be tough. If what is said is right. Season is finish for Carlo. Can't come back in PO finals without a proper game shape. If the contrary... well that will again prove these guys are trained machine

Alicat... are you a doctor, nurse, medical staff... you seem to always have a professionnel view on players health and injury. Feel free... i am just curious
Not at all. Just had really bad luck. My ortho was a sports doc and always explained things to me plus I’m naturally curious and did a lot of research. My dad knew a lot bc he played hockey (not pro) so that also helped.

I’m thinking he may have heard it/felt it break.

He knew there was something wrong and he wasn’t shaking it off. Explains the stretcher as well.

My daughter broke her arm in a soccer game. She heard the break and knew it was broken without looking at it.

Hope he heals up fast.

Depends on when he can actually start skating again. He might be able to start skating in 5-6 weeks. If he's off skates for the entire 8 weeks, taking him up to June 1st, his season might be done. Also depends on if anyone else is injured by that point in time.

All in all, just terrible news.

Right. Me think PO paste coming back of a leg injury after 5-6 or 8 weeks will be difficult. I feel sad for the kid.

My only concern is what kind of break this is. Hoping for a clean break.

Last time my son broke a bone (wrist), I asked the orthopedic surgeon if it was a clean break and he ridiculed me. Said a break was a break and there was no such thing as “clean” break.

He was kind of a dink, but appeared to be a competent doctor?

Sometimes they can be competent but arrogant. As long as your son is fully recovered it doesn’t matter in the end :)

A break may be a break but they aren’t all equal and some come with more risk than others.

My daughter has broken her radius and ulna in each arm.

My daughter broke her left arm bones set and monitored (8 weeks in a cast).

Then she broke her right arm (break was close to the elbow, she had played and screws, no actual cast-just a hard molded to her splint like thing). Right arm was more serious, and left her with permanent nerve damage due to how close it was to her nerve.

Hopefully Carlo’s injury is of the more minor-easy to fix and monitor sort.

Broke my fibula in almost exactly the same manner as what happened today. Couldn’t get my foot to move forward, and fell awkwardly...my friend heard the “pop” about 30’ away. I knew 100% that it was broken. Didn’t require any setting or surgery. I’d broken other bones before, and recovery was a snap. Unfortunately this one took forever after the cast was removed (cast for 8 weeks). I had to walk “gingerly” for weeks, and it just felt so fragile all the time.

Carlo is young, with the best medical staff/rehab folks around. So who knows I guess. What a terrible thing to have happen after missing last years playoffs.

Here's a hypothetical...say it takes 6 weeks before he even gets on the ice. That's the middle of May. But he's not only got the rehab of the actual leg to work on...his cardiovascular conditioning will have plummeted. (Yeah, I'm sure they have tricks to get around not being able to use your leg, like hand bikes and whatnot, but I can't imagine it's even in the realm of being clsoe.)

Either way, it's the middle of May, probably the ECF is winding down...and if you've made it that far without him, would you really want to risk getting him back in the lineup? Granted, we had Jake DeBrusk score 2 goals in his first appearance back after an injury, but...this is way worse than whatever DeBrusk was dealing with. Honestly, if this were the case and he's even possible for the late playoffs, rehab him if you can just in case someone gets hurt in the playoffs, but I'd be reluctant to bring him in.

It's all the more sad because Carlo -REALLY- had started turning things around, and this is the second time in a row that he's had an injury right at the end of the season.

That's terrible news regarding Carlo. I hope that he recovers quickly and fully. He will be missed.

Surely Boston has the most player games lost owing to injuries this season?

I mean, he still could have ligament damange as well. I don't expect to see him play this year again. Think it will be a lengthy recovery to fully healed, full strength and, just as important, confidence in his leg back to normal.
