So every player in the league should know the injury history of every guy they attempt to hit going forward, and that should factor into what he can or cannot do? This is the NHL, FFS. Sack up. It's a physical sport. If you bump a goalie at the very end of a blow out game, more than likely that guy will retaliate in some form.

Again, you're attributing something to me that I didn't say.

It was a scary moment for Soderberg and for Bruins fans. That's a fact that has nothing to do with Thomas or foreknowledge or hitting or any damn thing. It was a scary moment. Period.

If TT is between the pipes next time they play on march 4th and Yeti crashes the net he will have me in the palm of his hand. And of course i would expect TT to do no less than what he did last night in retaliation.

Scary is completely overstating it. The guy swung a punch and Soderberg got right back up, unscathed.

Horton staring at the garden ceiling was scary. Soderberg taking a slash shouldn't have been "scary" for anyone other than if he has overprotective parents.

I fear the day hockey becomes "scary". Jesus.

Soderberg was not wrong in playing from whistle to whistle, Thomas was not wrong in defending his crease, like he did many times here, and Tuukka has done.

This is blatant homerism right here, IMO. Had Tuukka done that last night to a Panther, people on this board would be unanimously praising his compete level and cheering how he won't take **** from anyone. It happens to our player and it's a dangerous play? Newsflash, Soderberg ran into Thomas, so Thomas returned the favor. Nothing more, nothing less. And I loved it. I loved Soda running him and fighting for the puck at the end of a blowout, and I loved Thomas turning around and sticking up for himself. That was an old school hockey play, and one that should not be blown up into something bigger than it really was.

:handclap: Well said.

Some here are sounding like Nuck's fans in 2011 :help:

The bolded is QFT!

Everything about that play was exactly what this fanbase expects out of our players: charge the net hard and doing what's necessary to secure the goal; defend the crease and give as well or better than gotten. Soderberg gets his stick in Thomas' grill; Thomas responds in kind.

No harm, no foul. Nothing much to see here. Move on.

I said "moment." MOMENT.

Soderberg takes a stick to the head, crashes to the ice, feels around his left eye, and I said "oh ****!"

Then he got up and he was OK, and I said "whew."

Is that "completely overstating it"?

Agree? No. Whine less because you know how the league does it? Yes. A whole lot less.

Please, on a whinging scale from 0 to LSCII, I'm barely at 8. :)

No I didn't. Did you miss him clutching his face shield like a child?

So because everyone doesn't have the same pain threshold as you, your omnipotence, they're a child? Have you taken a goalie stick to the face? As EverettMike said, a blocker is probably worse, but it still doesn't take much force behind it for it to hurt pretty bad. Did you miss Bergeron getting high-sticked and clutching his face earlier in the period? He was fine too. What a baby.

Seriously **** off with this BS, he practically can't see out of one eye already and took a slash to the face. Grow up.

The support Thomas is getting for what he did is unfathomable. It was only 2 minute worthy but he should not be getting defended on here. What he did was reckless and was absolutely NOT protecting the crease. You do that with two handers to the knees and blocker punches- NOT BY SLASHING PEOPLE IN THE FACE.

Is Thomas being defended, or are the people "homer"-ing over the play being called out for their hypocrisy?

I think it's more the latter than the former. Like LSCII said, if that was Tuukka's response to someone crashing his net and putting a stick in his grill, there would be a whole lot more people cheering it than poo-pooing it.

Sure seems like it, you said:"The only thing I really didn't like about the Thomas/Soderberg play is how Carl dropped to the ice like he just got hit in the face with a baseball bat."

If you saw it, then your description is off.

I sure as hell wouldn't cheer for anybody to slash somebody in the face, but that's just me. Not sure there is any hypocrisy at all, considering Rask hasn't done anything like this at all.

Just like it is now, then? There's probably 4-5 people "poo-pooing" it (which is a bit of an exaggeration, nobody's calling for lengthy suspensions, or any suspension at all, as far as I can see), and the rest cheering it. Who says those 4-5 people wouldn't be poo-pooing Tuukka doing it. That's probably about the same split as in people who call out Marchand when he does stupid stuff. Actually, more people poo-poo on Marchand for that, but I'd attribute some of that to hurting his team by risking going to the box more than the play itself.

I've never heard Jack lobby for a suspension so emphatically. That's the only thing I take issue with. I know he's a homer and I love him, but he went full Steigerwald on that one.

Every time I watch this, I still can't believe the saves this guy came through with in the clutch.

If it weren't for Thomas, yes Thomas, especially that pad save on the 2 on 1 in OT vs the habs, we'd still be whining a/b what happened in 2010. Some of you would still be in therapy. Instead it's a distant memory.

Thanks, Timmah.

Wow, don't know that I have seen that vid before.
I know he played great, but wow!

By that vid, it looks like our D sucked for the playoffs.

Yes, that is an accurate description of what happened. He may have been pushed to the ice, but he also tossed his stick, threw his legs up in the air, and clutched his face "like he just got hit in the face with a baseball bat." Even he said after the game, "He hit me in the side of the helmet, I'm fine."

I can't believe I even posted about it because obviously someone would tell me what I did or didn't see.

Highlight videos always make it look like someone(s) sucked.

Someone could very easily put together a video of the Bruins defense saving Thomas's (or Rask's for that matter) bacon.

Close.

He got hit in the face with a goalie stick.

Your choice of username is quite ironic.
