And I'll be pleasantly surprised if he makes the Bruins out of camp. I think most agree that going pro is in his best interest right now.
Disagree. It might be in the Bruins' best interest because he's likely to make the team out of TC.

At Notre Dame he would be returning to a good team that is playing in a division outside of HE in which it could win the championship. He'd be playing on a team with his kid brother and for which his Dad played. His mother and two sisters received their degrees from Notre Dame.

Anders will also have an opportunity to play in the Olympics, something that would be denied him if he turned pro.

Fail to see how it's in his best interest now to sign a contract. For selfish reasons I'd love to see him in black and yellow next season. But he'd miss great opportunity if he didn't complete his degree for the Irish.

Pasta is having a so-so game vs Switzerland like all the Czech team, through two periods. He had two A-grade chances in the 2nd, but couldn't score. He has however a nice assist on the Czech's lone goal so far (score is 2-1 Switzerland).

Pasta ended up being the best Czech on the ice by quite a margin. Very dangerous on many occasions, but at the end of the day, the Czech still lost, 3-1.

I would think his goal is to become an NHL player. If he feels he is ready and Bruins feel he is ready I don't understand the logic of returning to school. He can return and get his degree during off seasons or after his career.

Because the level of competition is higher in the AHL, so by playing against pros every week he can start adjusting his game to that level. Of course it would be nice to see him play more often too... From what I've read he's barely getting minutes in this tournament, and he might get lucky since the NHL isn't going to the Olympics, but playing in the AHL against pros next year with the chance of a call up would be a better season then dominating college kids again in my opinion.

You're right...and although the NHL may not go to the olympics that's not to say that AHL players can't go if picked, and I'm sure Boston would be more than happy to let him too (assuming he doesn't make the team out of camp).

I never thought of that. I'm sure if Bjork lets Sweeney know he wants to play in the olympics he'd let him. Didn't Pastrnak play in the world juniors while playing pro, or he had the opportunity at least.

Very important point that many of us have missed... The Bruins do need to lean on him as much as possible to turn pro. The best place for him next year is Providence much like Danton Heinen this year. Might not be what he wants, might not be what fans expect but he isin't going to get much better playing the same competition in the NCAA. JFK should also start the year in Providence heck he should be playing in the playoffs for them right now.

McCavoy is clearly a heck of a talent and is an echelon above Bjork, Heinen, etc. He was as perfect as a 19 year old playing his first NHL game in the NHL playoffs can be. He will be quite good next year. Debrusk looks like he is ready to make the jump next year as well given how well he has played down the stretch. Synyshyn, Lauzon and Zboril all might need a little time in the AHL.

I've been able to watch most of the Team USA games on NBCSN streaming or the network and McAvoy's play has moved between solid and exceptional every game. The last couple of games where he is paired with Skjei have been excellent. It's frustrating to know the Chiarelli Bruins passed on him to select Subban and are now missing that big LD; a spot he would have filled perfectly.

While he's not putting up points, McAvoy is on the ice a lot when Team USA scores. He's usually the 3rd or 4th to last touch the puck so he's not racking up the points his play warrants. He also seems to be the only one making big hits for Team USA. There's a lot of scrum after the whistle which he does not really engage in but he's made a number of momentum changing hits at the WC. A couple of games ago (LAT-USA) with the game tied 3-3 with 4 min to play he crunched a Latvian at his own blue line causing a turn over and he went for a change. 10 seconds later Copp flies down and scores the GW so McAvoy didn't get an A or even get a +/- there--can't always trust the box scores, you need to watch the games. Today against Russia he was hitting every Russian he could in the D zone (insert current political analogy joke here). He really got under their skin where one kicked the back of his leg in what looked like maybe a slew foot into the boards that wasn't called but they did call slashing his stick out of his hands a minute later for the PP that led to the GW goal in what was another late 3-3 game.

Also, stay away from Hanafin unless you get bargain pricing. He has looked bad at the WC and I'd be worried that Carolina is trying to unload him. I know he is getting top pairing D responsibilities but he is constantly getting burned. Maybe he is just in the middle of a sophomore slump but, wow, his play is ugly. He almost got burned for a shorthanded tying goal with 6 min to go...while on the PP! 60 sec later McAvoy gives up the blue line to ensure there are no breakaways in case he can't keep it in. Situational awareness.

To be fair to Hanafin, I've never seen a shorthanded penalty killer come in from behind to steal the puck from the point guy. I thought he had jumped off the bench or something... I don't think there's any way he could have known Panarin was there.

True. I rewound to see where he came from and the top Russian made a quick change in the zone and the other guy came onto the ice from center ice. But he had to know another Russian was coming on the ice. He also seems to be the dman on Team USA always chasing down breakaways and is also doing too much puck watching and not enough boxing out or taking the body in front. He's not a Bruin so not a big deal but just commenting on his play as some people in this thread seem to want to offer a lot to get him.

McAvoy did have to race to a puck to prevent a breakaway today but he was actually making a line change when a puck was blocked and the other 4 guys were deep or flat footed. Instead of leaving his teammates hanging he raced back and dove to knock the puck away. I'm loving his complete game and not just the expected offense.

It's really quite striking to see how much his play has improved in just the last month and a half since turning pro. He's significantly better now than he was as Team USA's best player in the gold medal WJC20 game in January.

Yeah that was a really strange play, I aslo thought he had jumped off the bench. Have you seen a replay to see how he appear there? I seriously can't understand how that happen and didn't see the replay.

Edit: just saw the explanation the post above sorry.

Finland, in typical Finnish fashion, underwhelm in the group stage and then play spoiler in the playoffs by playing well above their roster's assumed talent level. Pesky!
Sad for Bjork and McAvoy, though. And for Pastrnak for losing a tight game to Russia who just had the more efficient top guys today.

0 points in 5 games. Long road ahead

possibly however, from all I have read, really didn`t play much. Now, I haven`t a clue if that`s because he just isn`t up to the level/speed of his teammates in this tourney or if he was added solely for the purpose from the get go of being essentially a 13th forward?

Whatever, don`t really care, but what I do wonder is I read more than a few posts here over the past few months where it was suggested he was a guy who really would cherish the Olympic experience, I wonder out loud if this current experience has him re-thinking that with the lack of TOI given in this tourney?

Germany managed to keep the shot differential against Canada in the first period to a fairly respectable 15-7 (goals 1-0). In the second, Canada outshot them 20 to 1 (again 1-0 for aggregate 2-0). :amazed:

Dennis Seidenberg's brother Yannick scored a shorthanded goal to win the period, but that's as close as Germany get to tying it up. 48 saves for Grubauer.

Gotta wonder if he could be the starter for Vegas next year.
