One way to tell if a trade is good for you is to go to other teams' boards and see what they think.

The reactions I've seen range from annoyance to disgust to outright panic.

Judging from those reactions, I'd say that this was a good deal for the Bruins.
I haven't been over there today, but last night there were quite a few fans ok with the deal because they knew it was in the best interest to be sellers due to the team not really being a Cup contender this season.

One thing they all had in common -- hated seeing Orlov and Hathaway leaving. Two very popular players with Caps fans. Both players will become very popular with Bs fans as well. Bs fans appreciate hard work and hitting, something Orlov and Hathaway bring. The skill that both players possess is the cherry on top.

God help the opposing teams that have Marchy and Hathaway skating around trying to get into their head.

If Jim puts the pairings together by spreading out the talent, do you guys realize that we could theoretically have one of McAvoy, Lindholm, or Orlov on the ice for every second of an entire hockey game? That's crazy to think about. We have 3 #1 defensemen and a good #2 in Carlo.

It's nuts. Not to mention this is a pretty heavy D group to play against. McAvoy can hit like a truck. Orlov can lay people out. Carlo, while not a big hitter, is playing the most physical of his career and wearing guys down near the crease and along the boards. Cliffy of course isn't a big person but can bring the heavy hits. And of course Lindholm can lay someone out when the urge hits him.

No D corps in the NHL has the all-around combination of skill/hitting that this group has. Then you add in the leading candidate for the Vezina tending goal behind this group -- holy crap.

So both Hathaway and Orlov are UFA's.
Right now we won the trade, but if we don't win the SC and lose the both of them in Free Agency.....that's a different matter.
Plus Pastas contract is ever looming.

I like the trade, management, coaches, players all like it. I think they all knew that we lacked little sandpaper to our game and these two additions bring it.

As much as Orlov is to a degree the "main player" in this deal, getting a guy like Hathaway who can play both LW and RW and is defensively sound is just as an important asset.

Connor Clifton went totally against all odds and made this team where he's a regular fit. He is by far our most physical defenceman, has some offensive gifts as well. I'm a giant cheerleader for him. I truly hope he remains in the Bruins organization.
He might be odd man out, or Forbert.

This is why Chychrun is still in the desert too. Everyone is trying to overprice their players. There needs to be a fine line and a happy medium.
Yep. The days of Don "still evaluating" Sweeney seem to be over. Past few deadlines he has made bold moves and is not playing games like some GMs continue to do.

DS gave up quite a bit for a couple rentals that very well may not re-sign with the team. But he brought in two guys that balance out the team about as well as any two players I can think of that were available. Still trying to wrap my head around his ability to bring in a talent such as Orlov. Beyond my expectations for sure.

Caps GM knows his team had no chance at a Cup this year, so he was bold and pulled the trigger and strengthened the future of his club. Smart man. Meanwhile crap teams remain crap. Arizona is a great example of that. Learn to crap or get off the pot.

Unrelated note, I'd take Orlov on the Bs for the playoffs 10/10 times over Chychrun. So glad DS didn't give up the farm for a guy who is already hobbled at a youngish age and seems to be injured as much as he is healthy.

Blue Jackets did it to themselves. Maybe shoulda taken back salary instead of trying to bend Sweeney over a barrel. Maybe that’s why one team is lapping the field and another is still rebuilding, again.
Donnie still has Jarmo on hold: ''Hello, hello.......''

  • Haha
Reactions: BTO
Jarno/CLB can be salty all they want...
Were they taking Smith?
Were they offering a guy like Hatheway as a throw in?
Orlov is better than Gavrikov.
The Bruins OPENED UP cap room in this deal.
Go pound sand Jarno.
:handclap: :handclap: :handclap:

My thoughts precisely. You forced Sweeney to look elsewhere for cap relief. Sweeney found it.

No one to blame here but your own damn self.
