Today’s Globe:

Foot fells Forbort

Derek Forbort, who left Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg in a walking boot, received a second round of X-rays on his right foot. Montgomery didn’t have a status update on the puck-eating defenseman, who took a Neal Pionk wrister off the inside of the foot.

Unfortunate developments for Forbort, who hails from Duluth, and the local fans who wanted to see him play in the Wild’s building. Duluth is about two hours north of here. Forbort also will miss Sunday’s game in Buffalo.

The Bruins certainly will miss Forbort on the penalty kill. He leads the league’s best PK (85.7 percent) in ice time, and ranks 10th among all players averaging 3:08. His shutdown partner, Brandon Carlo, is right behind (3:05).

In Forbort’s 13 missed games, the Bruins are 76.5 percent on the kill. With him in the lineup, they are cooking at 87.5 percent.

At what point at the end of the season do you tell dmen stop blocking shots on the PK
unless you are 100% directly facing the shooter? Now, 10 games, 8 games?

Its a fairly risky move asking these dmen to do it to begin with.

at this stage its in their dna. You could tell them all you want but I believe it’s reactionary. Especially for him in particular. Its his bread and butter.

Yep, guys like Forbort keep their place in the NHL doing it. I remember back in the 60-70's guys wouldn't block shots the way they do now. Use to see some "ole" moves
by a guy in position to block but moving out of the line of the shot on a 2 on 2...lol.

The first time I really saw a team wide dedication was during the 1990 NCAA Semifinals when Wisconsin did it to a really good BC Team (Guerin, Heinze, Emma,
McInnis). It was like 6 goalies instead of one.

Craziest I recall was Gary Doak. He’d drop to his knees facing the shooter. Nuts.

So funny to see this pic. I was a defenseman and wore a set of shoulder pads with a pad that covered my chest down to my pants and I wore a goalie sized cup and I loved to block shots like this. I don't think I ever saw kids in the past few generations wear that type of shoulder pad set. Wonder if they even make them anymore.

Hall skating. Where is that Leaf fan from yesterday?
I was wondering about this. Last episode of behind the B, there was a scene the day pasta signed his contract, with Taylor hall riding the stationary bike all smiles. Certainly hard to deduct much but made me raise my eyebrows. Didn’t look like a guy struggling with a major lbi, far out from returning. Anybody else catch that?

I noticed it too. Probably just some lingering issue he tweaked and they just gave him some extra rest.

Lineup decisions are going to be tough soon. A very good player is either going to be sitting or on the 4th line.

I think so as well and when Foglino went down I do wonder if they did some uplanned wizardry knowing Hall needed long term rest ala the whole Bertuzzi deal, I honestly wonder if that was all last minute hustling not in the original plan going into the TDL...

This evening Globe:

No updates on Hall, Foligno

Taylor Hall, out since sustaining a lower-body injury in Vancouver on Feb. 25, has resumed skating in Brighton.

Nick Foligno, who wrenched a knee two nights later in Calgary, has yet to begin on-ice drills.

Montgomery continued to have little info on either of the vets.

“As far as I know, nothing, if you are referring to the two guys back at home,” he said, adopting the Sergeant Schultz approach when asked about potential roster changes. “They are not going to be options for a while.”

Hall is eligible to be recalled from LTIR prior to Tuesday’s puck drop with Ottawa. GM Don Sweeney could be weighing what cap implications would come into play if he activates the veteran winger. Once the playoffs begin, Hall’s $6 million cap hit is a nonfactor.

Krejci, Montgomery made clear, was out because the 36-year-old pivot, a veteran of 1,025 regular-season games, “is banged up.”

“This is not resting him,” added the bench boss. “He’s sore. We don’t want the condition to get worse.”

Hopefully they give Krejci a good rest. Let him sit for a week, or more and get healthy

Jim Shoenfeld, on the other hand.......and our own birthday boy, RGO.

Today’s Globe:

Dmitry Orlov, a healthy scratch in Buffalo, should be back in the lineup vs. the Senators … It’s possible that Taylor Hall, who began skating on his own last week in Brighton, will join the morning-of-game skate with the club Tuesday. Montgomery remained resolute in Buffalo that neither Hall nor fellow injured winger Nick Foligno would be available to play in the near future …

I don’t really think that’s what “healthy scratch” means
