i not so sure about that.

Having Bertuzzi just give you more flexibility and options when injuries happen in the playoffs (not just regular season) and bumps someone down a peg in the lineup and someone out (like a Greer)

Without being able to LTIR Hall, though, there would have been no room for Bert under the cap. Not saying something could not have been swung but it would have cost a lot more to clear enough salary to make it happen.

Donny was pretty creative getting Orlov with minimal cap hit and getting retention on Bertuuzi already, not saying he could have, but hard to imagine the only forward he was going to add was Hathaway.

You could be 100% right though.

They knew he was hurt bad when they sent him home and needed to go on long term IR. They were trying to keep the cost down on Bertuzzi by saying it wasn’t that bad an injury.

Not sure if your friend knows anyone, but the only thing I saw that was that extreme was some dude on Reddit saying that Hall tore his ACL and is done for the year. That's entirely different than other reports we've heard, and the guy deleted his comments after getting roasted.
I saw the same post, and the kid's response was "if you give up your source you don't have one". Definitely just a troll trying to spread fake news.

Though partial ACL tear os believable. I wish we got anything from the team. That's the frustrating part about this time of year. All we can do is hope.

FWIW:

Sportsnet televised the game in Canada last night. The announcers at one point said Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno were in the booth next door and Hall (who knew them from his days in Edmonton, and DeBrusk's dad was one of them) popped in to say hello during a commercial break.

They said both would be back in the playoffs, not the regular season although Foligno would take longer.

Thanks Dom, at least twice the ESPN announcers talked about running into Taylor Hall and running into him between periods, but both times they added no valuable information

Taylor Hall, out of the Bruins lineup with a lower-body injury sustained Feb. 25 in Vancouver, is expected to begin practicing on Monday and likely will return to action upon the conclusion of the club’s upcoming five-game road trip that kicks off Sunday afternoon in Detroit.
Hall, in the press box Thursday night for the Bruins’ 3-2 loss to the Oilers, said he was relieved that his injury wasn’t more serious and is eager to get back to work on Monday.
A source close to Hall noted that initial plan will be for the 31-year-old left winger not to play in back-to-back games.

Hall, who carries a $6 million cap hit on the Bruins payroll, currently is on long-term injured reserve. Provided another roster player isn’t injured, GM Don Sweeney will have to find a way to move some $2 million off the books if he places Hall back on the active roster.

According to puckpedia.com, the Bruins currently have just under $4 million in available cap space, room created when both Hall and fellow winger Nick Foligno ($3.8 million) were had their numbers taken off the books earlier this month due to injury.

Provided the Bruins back dated Hall’s injury to Feb. 25, he should be eligible to return to game action when the Senators visit the Garden on March 21. LTIR requires players to remain out for a minimum 10 games and 24 days.

My question is does switching Foligno to LTIR, give you the dollars you need?
