The hell with Lucic he disappeared in big games and the reason we even won a game vs the Sharks was because of Brownies physical play and big hit...
This team needs secondary scoring and that saved money should be used to bring back Vertseeg or make a big run at Backes or both and really make us tough to play against.....
MERSCH-KOPITAR-GABORIK
PEARSON-CARTER-TOFFOLI
BROWN-BACKES-VERSTEEG
CLIFFORD-DOWD-SHORE

If Lucic walks I predict we have a year worse than last year. I guess Dean only watches games from above the stands and not much video because I saw so many more goals scored this year because of Lucic in front of the net. He also changed the dynamic of our top 6.

We will miss the playoffs next year if we still play a heavy system and Lucic is gone.

If Dean drafts size over skill again in this years draft then they haven't fully woken up and maybe will next year after they miss the playoffs once again.

He also turned the puck over all the time coming out of our zone, and would cripple the Kings cap going forward if he's brought back.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys but next season the cap is $74 million and we come in at $66 million but ridding ourselves of guys like King, Greene and Clifford we can clear an extra $5.3 million for $13 million in cap space which could be;
Kris Versteeg-$2.5-$3 mill per
David Backes-$4.5 mill per
And re sign McNabb and maybe retain Lewis

Some of that money should go to defense not all forwards.

No kidding, $6 million would go to resigning McNabb and getting another defenseman....also keep in mind Scuderi and Nolan add up to another $2.2 million in cap space fwiw...
Defense is gong to be tricky, no one seems to fit our style of play or need of a defensive defenseman
Doughty-Muzzin
Martinez-McNabb
Gravel-Forbort
Scuderi-Greene
Those bottom two pairs is why we couldn't advance in the playoffs, so unless McNabb makes the expect leap forward we're screwed unless Gravel-Forbort play like they do in Ontario...

I wonder if you and I watched a different team than everyone else here.

This team lives and dies by the play of Jonathan Quick because we can't score... Lucic comes in to replace Williams and whatever line he's thrown on the guy creates space for his linemates, screened the goalie on the powerplay a ****ton, scored goals in the dirty areas, and was a surprisingly damn good passer.

Salary cap is a *****.

I see that too. The guy wasn't one of our leading scorers by magic and happenstance.

I guess his godawful playoffs left a bad taste in many mouths.

Indeed, it is. **** the salary cap. The parity was still good before this **** existed.

Backes will get at least $6M

Really Mayor, like in the 2012 playoffs? How many cups did Sutter win with "his guys"? Besides dumping Brown as captain (I support this all the way -- it is time). It would not surprise me if he demanded Lucic not be signed to free up money to keep Lewis.

Kind of agree here. Sutter has turned into a sort of folk hero around these parts, and every time he's questioned, "two Cups bro" comes out as the trump card.

In fact, if this is a matter of Sutter versus Brown, why the **** is Lombardi siding with Sutter? If setting Sutter out to pasture (literally in his case) can possibly rebuild Brown's confidence and get his game back, how do you not make that decision?

So instead, you make sure to crush Brown's confidence, all for a coach that'll likely be retired in two years, anyway?

It's one thing to realize you've been too loyal as a GM, it's another to go to the opposite extreme and start treating players like statistics. Lombardi of four years ago doesn't make this decision, Cup or not, and that's what alarms me here.

He needed to just step down after the Richards/Voynov stuff. Go upstairs with Luc and retire in the Kings executive office. Let Futa take control. I'm becoming increasingly concerned that Lombardi is no longer capable of making the right decision with this team.

No No No! You're doing it wrong. The Kings didn't win the cup so the Lucic trade was the worst trade ever!!!!

Nice to see someone get it.

I'd also like to point out that Lucic was tied for 3rd on the team in points during the playoffs.

i'm giving you a chance to go back and erase this part before people read this on Sunday

there's no point in arguing with this ridiculous fact that you just threw out there, i know it's late, i know it's saturday and you're probably drunk

and i do like you bro

I don't understand why anyone in the hockey world is relating this to Thornton and the Sharks. Captains have been stripped of the "C" all throughout hockey history, they don't all get traded or retire...

The is true. I remember Wayne taking over captain from Dave Taylor when Wayne was traded to us, and Dave stuck around for many many years.

Don't think I'm inebriated... Probably just the crazy.

Then when you combine the 2 Loyalty Programs it gets even worse. Lombardi needs to do a better job of recognizing the second a player loses a step, loses their edge/that lovin' feeling and deal them for whatever he can. Staying loyal to most of these guys has been a disaster to the Kings.

(Unfortunately) I couldn't agree more...

Maybe cause Brown wasn't going to lead a Kings team to a cup with Terry Murray behind the bench?

The issue with Lucic was his contract. How do you take that on when cap strapped? He's unique so I get the appeal. He plays heavy but I'd rather have kept Williams and the pick.

Anyway, last time I'll ever mention it again.

Where is Greene going? Teams lining up for a guy who has lost a full step, has a worn out body from his style (which I'm not complaining about-dude left it all out there for the Kings) and a bloated contract? Add Greene to the Lombardi Loyalty Program.

rumor was he would retire and move to a FO position.... Although with essentially a year off form all the NHL physicality he could come back and actually give us something since he's had all that rest for both body and mind......Could he be the Matt Greene from our first championship at least for one more season???

I just want to give Brown insane props no matter what happens from here. He was Deadmarsh reincarnate to me.

Very unique player with unique company, only him and Ovechkin were players with 60+ points and 200+ hits for years. He led the way with 50-60 points a year, a literal league leading hitter, excellent at drawing penalties without losing his cool himself, insanely hard worker, ferocious body checker, and excellent in the community and in helping establish the pro culture amongst the youth. He has a place in the Kings' hall of legends for being the guy who helped catalyze a transformation. Will never forget his contributions.

That's whats make this all the sadder, but still the right thing. Just goes to show you how much the hockey landscape can change in even 3 short years.

Quote of the year

Where did you hear/read that?
