If the Kings can dump Brown and Lewis and Lucic walk there will be some opportunities for Kempe, Mersch and Dowd.

Lombardi should also consider moving King or Clifford. That would give Andreoff and Mersch a chance at the LW on the 3rd and 4th line.

Are those moves going to lead to another stanley cup, or are we going for the team with the most cap space trophy?

Is this the most drastic move ownership was willing to make besides/before firing Sutter or Lombardi?

IMO, Both Sutter and Lombardi deserve to keep their jobs, but was this a rushed decision to show the fans/team that they are 100% committed to winning?

I'm a Coyotes fan, but this is not a troll post. Honestly, this news caught me pretty off guard, so I'm wondering your opinions.

How about a buyout?

Anyway, I'd probably say C Kopitar, A Doughty & Carter.

Buying out Brown would punish the Kings for years, more than Richards. Then when you combine the 2 Loyalty Programs it gets even worse. Lombardi needs to do a better job of recognizing the second a player loses a step, loses their edge/that lovin' feeling and deal them for whatever he can. Staying loyal to most of these guys has been a disaster to the Kings. Everybody was crying about Justin Williams, Mr.Game 7, well how did he do in Game 7 this season? He lost a step years ago and his points this season came on the back of Ovechkin/Backstrom/Oshie-Lucic was a HUGE upgrade over Williams. This is a what have you done for me lately business and in the case of Brown the answer is put out a You Tube video of him jogging in the woods and not much on the ice.

Without violating the rules. All I can say is regardless of how this turns out. Everybody will be impressed how professional Dustin Brown will be.

He will not be a distraction, he will not whine, pout or complain to the media. He will do what he has done everyday since he was drafted. And that is do the best he can do and work hard to make the LA Kings a better franchise.

If he does end up in Buffalo or Montreal there is no doubt he will improve those clubs with his prescence and professionalism.

The man is a CLASS ACT 100% and if he moves on, the organization and this fan base will truly miss him.

I agree with the first half of your post, but not so sure I wouldn't have taken Williams over Lucic in our playoff series over the Sharks. I don't remember Lucic doing a damn thing in 5 games.

I think this Sutter vs Brown thing has a lot to do with it. We have heard little things about those two guys not getting along. Last year Sutter talked about other guys stepping up their leadership roles outside of Brown because of the lost of others (JW/JS/MR). But it could have been a warning shot at Brown too. There was also that "joke" the players did to Sutter by locking him out of the dressing room. That might have been a move by the leadership players to push Sutter out.

I just think this is a way deeper issue than we will ever know. We know Brown struggles with his game but no one has ever questioned his leadership side. It seems like it's two guys that don't see eye to eye.

The Sutter thing is probably part of it, but to change your captain from someone who was the captain when you won 2 Cups very recently, tells me that Deano is serious about making meaningful changes this off-season. We'll see how much he can get done, but to go this far with the captain given how big he is on loyalty and whatnot is a pretty big deal.

Yep. People harp on Deano for being TOO loyal - now he makes a change like this (which on its objective merits makes complete sense - thoughts and feelings aside), and people are upset.

You can't please everyone. This team needs a fresh start.

This team is a mess.

We said that about San Jose last year. We aren't very good at predicting messes.

Agree.

Norris, Selke, Vezina and Byng finalists in the same year, 3 guys on the Canadian World Cup team (plus 3 others on other teams), 102 pts last season (only losing the division by 1 point to a ridiculously hot Duck team), knocked out of the playoffs by what might be the eventual Cup champion...changes always have to be made but reading these boards you'd think we were the worst team in the league.

And when we DIDN'T win, we were knocked out by the Cup champs in 2013 (that Hawks team was a damn buzzsaw) and at least a Cup finalist in 2016.

It's helped us see that clear changes need to be made, but it's still a hell of a team.

Quoted to reiterate its accuracy.

Mayor said in that interview that Brown was never Sutters "guy."

Also, he said Lombardi has been burned too much and now it's just business.

Really Mayor, like in the 2012 playoffs? How many cups did Sutter win with "his guys"? Besides dumping Brown as captain (I support this all the way -- it is time). It would not surprise me if he demanded Lucic not be signed to free up money to keep Lewis.

If Lucic walks I predict we have a year worse than last year. I guess Dean only watches games from above the stands and not much video because I saw so many more goals scored this year because of Lucic in front of the net. He also changed the dynamic of our top 6.

We will miss the playoffs next year if we still play a heavy system and Lucic is gone.

If Dean drafts size over skill again in this years draft then they haven't fully woken up and maybe will next year after they miss the playoffs once again.

I mean, I don't know how you could complain about both things, honestly.

If we don't bring back Lucic and we're sticking by Brown, yet we rip the C off him, that's most certainly a signal we're going in a different direction, no?

Lucic was basically DL's biggest fantasy as a player, big tough hard to play against guy that can play in every minute. You don't let him go and lament that you need more toughness or something, you know?

But from the look of this thread, damned if we do, damned if we don't, so eh.

Lucic was decent. I'm not completely sold that a deal won't be made but I prefer a decent dman to Lucic.

The trade never made much sense honestly. The playoffs weren't his fault either.

A guy like Conner would be nice to have in the pipe right now but LA was in win now mode.

Just a little short sighted imho on DLs part and I said it from the start.

What's done is done.

I think that is exactly what DL was hoping for.

If the Kings disappoint again this season he is going to be on the hot seat, not just from on-ice performance but because of the soap opera that has happened off the ice with Voynov, Stoll, Richards and Brown.

He better find a way to stop the bleeding.

Let's not forget that Stoll and most of the team were together in Vegas when he was caught with a lot of drugs on him. This isn't just a team that had an off ice issue with 4 players, we just don't know who the others were.

Then it should've started with Sutter.
