Brooks is a guy who did nothing to deserve any hate. His only crime is our team being too deep for him to make. In those 11 games he did a very good job. Did nothing wrong. Just doesn't stand out enough to play over an Engvall on the 4th line.

I have a thing for under dogs. There's a few posts in here that make me push for Brooks to crack the roster next season in a depth role and drop 20 goals on you guys.

Another depth player that's looked decent with the Marlies is Joseph Blandisi. Plays an annoying style of game too. Wonder if he's worth giving a look to in a 4LW spot before the season is out. He'd still need a contract though I believe

Brooks is the poster child for those who think Dubas can do no wrong.

Can he be sent to the Marlies without passing through waivers?

We waived and Montreal claimed.....i thought when he gets back to us we could? Does the third team claiming him between change that?

The media is reflecting what most of the fanbase has been talking about since December, those headlines create instant clicks on a topic that people are all ready interested in. Perhaps rival GMs get their interest tweaked, but how excited couldd they be once they watch the tape?.

NHL GMs don't need reporters to do their dealing, they are hockey business men, those in the ivory tower are very direct when they're looking to do some business.

It's a known thing that GM's and player agents use the news media, through "leak's and insiders, to manipulate trade and contract situations. It's done in every sport.

Chicken or the egg... not many fans were talking about Manson, until Friedman brought it up. Not many fans were talking about Chycryn until an insider brought up his name.

Half the guys in the league have a "legit" reason they could go on LTIR with. Muzzin just has to say he's not feeling 100% from his concussion and he can go on it. Timing it to line up in the exact ideal way to maximize cap space is the problem, I'm not buying that Stone was able to tolerate his injuries and play and then right as Eichel was cleared to return that was the exact second Stone's injuries became too much to deal with.

If Vegas doesn't have Eichel or cap space problems and were fighting for a playoff spot, there is absolutely 0 chance Stone would be on LTIR right now.

The loophole is going to lead to players who need surgery in November being told to tough it out a month so their scheduled return is in the playoffs and not the regular season. Medical decisions shouldn't be timed around the team's cap space situation. If fans are getting excited about their captain and star forward being put on LTIR, you've lost the plot somewhere.

I get the timing looks bad, especially after what Tampa did last year. Do you think the NHLPA would allow a team to railroad a player into LTIR?

If half the players should be on LTIR, isn't that more a commentary on how poorly the NHL treats its players?

I'm not sure how you got here. Nobody is calling Brooks a savior, he's a decent hard working tweener. I think we can all agree on that. Why the Dubas crack?

Not a crack at Dubas but at the hypocrisy of his cult followers.
Thought it was humorous.

Cult followers? I think you’re mixed up, the over arching theme in this place is a group of individuals who crap on our management team regardless of the moves made. Often with an attempt at being slick by throwing in an insult based of either his name or appearance. It’s pretty clear who around here peaked in high school.

Why Maple Leafs claimed Adam Brooks, demoted Timothy Liljegren - Sportsnet.ca

Brooks is on injured reserve with an undisclosed ailment and a timeline for his return has not yet been provided.

......................

As for Brooks, his cap hit ($725,000) is slightly more favourable than Liljegren’s ($863,333), saving Dubas a few extra dollars to go shopping by the March 21 trade deadline.

Every dollar counts.

Toronto’s cap crunch forced the club to lose Brooks on waivers (to Montreal) back in October.
Riding that thin line between AHLer and NHLer, he was later transferred to Vegas before coming back to the city that developed him.

“The idea behind it is, we didn't want to lose him initially,” Keefe said. “A chance to bring him back was intriguing, especially when you look at what we've gone through for this season, in particular with our centre depth. The loss of Brooks initially, [Kirill] Semyonov and [Michael] Amadio. So, it just felt like a chance to increase our depth at that position.”

While the Maple Leafs try hard to trade cap-heavy Nick Ritchie — who scored in his first game with the Marlies Wednesday — it appears Liljegren is forced to play the waiting game.

And reclaiming Brooks, who can provide fourth-line energy, serves the forward depth well.

“I love Brooks. He's a great kid. He's a guy that I grew really fond of,” said Jason Spezza, who has kept in touch with the affable 25-year-old. “He's a sports nerd, so we talk lots of fantasy football and different stuff throughout the year."

“He's grown up in the organization, so he's got a lot of people rooting for him here. So, to have him back is great.”

It's amazing how much work Dubas has created for his in-house capologists. I hope they are being paid appropriately.

if they cared that much about every cap dollar, they could have had Liljegren down in the minors for weeks now, and not picked up Brooks at all, freeing up all of Lilly's 863,333 to accrue capspace on.

Agreed. Brooks was a pretty decent fit with our team since we groomed him and has grown with some of the other players and played under Keefe. In his 18 games with the Leafs he has 8 pts. Pretty good for a tweener who plays on the 4th line and gives us cheap center depth.

Would much prefer what Brooks brings than Ritchie who only has 9 pts in 33 games and barely does what he was brought here to do. All while making over 2M. If Brooks becomes somewhat of a regular and we move Ritchie, it frees up some money for us to chase a D man

I agree - Leafs fans freaking out about Dubas waiving a player who has now been waived by 3 different teams in half a season is a perfect illustration of the credibility of most Dubas criticisms.
This makes no sense.

If people liked Brooks, and Dubas brought him back, then it confirms Leafs regret losing him and Brooks is worth having in the organization.

One of our top prospects had to be sent down to accommodate Brooks who can't even play.

Sorry but this one's a clear win for team Brooks and Dubas seems to agree.

Oopsies I quoted the wrong person. I'm on my phone this thing is a mess with ads I'm not fixing it lol its obvious what post this goes to
