Ritchie is probably getting traded in the near future, which is his 1.35M of dead cap space off the books.

It would seem to be the right play, but I still don't know who will take him with him being owed $3.3 million in actual money next season.

The Leafs claim a fringe player and have to do all sorts of cap math just to keep Liljegren on the roster.

Meanwhile these jerkoffs in Vegas just get to place Mark Stone on LTIR until game one so they can activate Eichel…

Like the new thread title. Reminds me of watching the Lion King with my girls when they were little.

Stone is not the kind of guy to voluntarily go on LTIR if there is not a legit reason. Convenient yes, intentional cap circumvention I think is doubtful. Before a player can go on LTIR they have to go through a process with the league that includes a physical exam by a Dr..

Leafs are on the verge of trading Ritchie away to clear enough cap space. I wouldn't be surprised to see this done in the next 12 hours. Maybe even someone like Dermott as well.

Leafs had bad center depth beyond the current roster. Brooks helps that a bit.
How do we know that they are "on the verge" of trading Ritchie?

Dubas leaks to and Insider ..... Insiders make up stories to entice other teams to speed up their offers to Dubas ..... *** crickets*** ... I would imagine there is a long lineup of teams wanting to get a 7 goal , slow , one dimensional player... :)

Da league does not care .. much like Kuch last year .. he was ready to play in March but did not come back to game 1 .. a doc will say whatever it takes .. guys like Stoner only want a Cup at this point .. got his contract .. same as Kuch .. da players do not care .. only people who do are fans of other teams man

It may also be that they planned to sit Lilly for the next game and put Derm in anyway. If that's the case may as well send him down a few days and accrue the cap space.

No, you're way off Wayner.

Until November 1, it goes in reverse order of standings from the previous season.

After November 1, it goes in reverse order of standings at present.

There is no such thing is going to the bottom of the list. If five players go on waivers, the lowest ranked team can claim all five of them at once, and another five the next day if they're still in last place.

I noticed you mentioned that teams wouldn't want to lose their waiver priority for certain type of players, but that's completely wrong. There is no loss of waiver priority by choosing a player off waivers.
Appreciate it man I definitely wasn't certain on this. I just knew last season's standings came in to play somewhere. Thanks a bunch

Don't underestimate potential, he had other offers in the offseason. He had 15 goals in a short season last year, he can throw checks and is a big body. Teams often pick up players out of favour and turn them around.

The same reasons the Leafs picked him up will entice others, especially if they want to add something to say, keep pace with something a team in their division does.

I'm not sure how this all works when he passed through waivers, but, maybe there is a benefit of a team trading for him rather than picking him up. Leafs being persuaded to eat some of his contract is always one approach, which won't be more than $300k, their off season cap hit if reports are correct.

He plays his first game in the minors tonight. What if he goes on a heater? Anything is possible, as we are seeing in the world today.

$2.5M a year isn't at all excessive IF he can learn to play with heart.

Half the guys in the league have a "legit" reason they could go on LTIR with. Muzzin just has to say he's not feeling 100% from his concussion and he can go on it. Timing it to line up in the exact ideal way to maximize cap space is the problem, I'm not buying that Stone was able to tolerate his injuries and play and then right as Eichel was cleared to return that was the exact second Stone's injuries became too much to deal with.

If Vegas doesn't have Eichel or cap space problems and were fighting for a playoff spot, there is absolutely 0 chance Stone would be on LTIR right now.

The loophole is going to lead to players who need surgery in November being told to tough it out a month so their scheduled return is in the playoffs and not the regular season. Medical decisions shouldn't be timed around the team's cap space situation. If fans are getting excited about their captain and star forward being put on LTIR, you've lost the plot somewhere.

Our National Nightmare is finally over :sarcasm:

Though the most interesting part of this is it's potentially a signal for a future trade sooner than later. Be it a Dermott/Holl or Ritchie out the door
