Canes GM confirms he had no clue whether Rantanen would sign with them or not. At the time of the trade he told them he only wanted Colorado
Rod Brind'Amour is old school. It doesn't surprise me that he may not mesh all that well with his highly-educated, analytics-driven GM.
Jeff O'Neill had a comment a while ago on Overdrive where he basically said, "I had a coach tell me that every day, a guy from the team's analytics department comes down and gives him a nice folder with a report in it. And every day, he politely says thank you, and when the guy leaves the room, he throws it right in the dust bin."
Now I have a hunch at who that coach might me...
Still sticking by this narrative?Or, Rantanen/his agent didn’t take something seriously that the Avalanche and Carolina did. If they had taken it seriously, they wouldn’t have agreed to sign with Carolina, thus preventing the trade in the first place.
I don't represent the entirety of the Montreal fanbase. So the new meme from Montreal is going to be Tulsky is a rube?
Ok then.
well, nothing more salty than a Habs fan re: Canes management and team.Still sticking by this narrative?

As far as the rube comment, I'm going to let Tulsky's own words demonstrate that.

Not as the boss for sure. But as a loud voice in the modern nhl it’s a must to have strong analytics department. The GM, who makes the final decision though, should be a smart hockey person first.Thats why hiring the math whiz/analytics guy isn't usually the right move. Chayka sucked and tried to cheat the system. Dubai hasn't been very good. Tulsky not looking too great these days.
Who on the current Canes’ core did Tulsky bring in? Jarvis?well, nothing more salty than a Habs fan re: Canes management and team.
FWIW: I'll take Tulsky's work in his years at the Canes versus Bergeron's and the current cast of characters running your show today.
Well, first of all, it was Bergevin, not Bergeron. Secondly, you will find no bigger hater than I when it comes to Bergevin, as he set the Habs back ten years.well, nothing more salty than a Habs fan re: Canes management and team.

Be funny if they asked for a

A few posts above, Tulsky admits they talked to Rantanens agent and their focus was to be work out a deal with Colorado. Tulsky made the deal anyhow. It's not unusual for Teams to give permission to other teams to make deals with their players. It happens.Seems like he could have meant he was criticizing MacFarland for trading Rantanen to Carolina without telling Tulsky about Rantanen's chances at re signing. I recall the rumors were just that the Avs didn't want to spend the money, so of course Carolina figured they might keep him if money was the only hang up.
Tulsky would not have been allowed to contact Rantanen or his agent before the trade.
They shouldn’t do that
Honestly does it really matter? Carolina flipped him for more than they probably would have got if they flipped Necas.
I mean, yes, but value wise there's no chance that Necas was returning 2 1st, 2 3rds, and a young forward with top 6 upside. I think the Canes made out just fine with the swap, especially from a value perspective. It's just a completely different type of package. What they ended up with is pretty much a rebuilding package . Rantanen was a win-now move and they had to switch that up.

Sure, so they weren't getting 2 1sts, 2 3rds and Stankoven for Necas, Drury, a 2nd+3rd+4th while taking on an expiring cap dump.Would also have to include Jack Drury a Canes 2025 2nd , Canes 2025 3rd and 2026 4th in that and they took on the cap dump that is Taylor Hall now.

They got good value out of the deal at the end of the day.
They are worse during their windowWhy is Necas and Drury for Stankoven and draft capital so bad
Took a risk, didn’t pay off, immediately recognized it- and did their best to correct course.
That is life. Take calculated risks when you can, then make as best decisions as you can with the information you had at the time. Think he did a fine job.
