I will try to focus on the few positives here for now until I melt down again.

If a player can’t give 100% effort for a players coach with the respect that should be afforded to Brind’Amour then the root of the problem becomes more obvious. Easy to identify and ship out those losers.

That’s all I’ve got for now. Maybe I’ll think of something else encouraging later.

But what if Brind'Amour's system is no better than Muller's or Peters'? Does buying in matter? Or we will argue about the players not being good enough or the system being not good enough seemingly forever?
Generally speaking all the systems work if they make sense to how the team is constructed. It’s how the players commit and execute.

What IF Rod was the answer for HC all along, but RF or JR kept that from happening. It seems like this isn't the first time he's floated the idea to management.

Edit: Nevermind, I forgot about his desire to be the Assistant due to family reasons. Still though, makes you wonder if he ever approached RF with Peters still in town. Seems like he was quite aggressive in getting his name at the forefront.

hate this move. mentioned earlier in the transition that the only thing that would really drive me nuts were internal hires. no defense of this or softening of my position. the choice was velluci if he wanted it. but hey, best of luck rod and don. prove us wrong.,

EDIT: Looks like cptjeff beat me to it.

I think there's some reading that can be done in between the line...er, words. I think Dundon believes Brind'Amour was held back under Peters.

My guess is that Dundon has bought into Brindy's articulation of what ailed the team, and Dundon believes in that vision. It's clear to me that Brindy didn't simply want to be head coach really badly...he made a case for his idea(s), and it was enough to sway Dundon. For better or worse, there's a plan behind this move...it's not just assigning Brindy as head coach out of resignation in not being able to find someone better.

my guess is, brind'amour was the cheapest candidate, and since we, hfcanes, are the hard veteran core of the caniacs left after 9 years of failure, cognitive dissonance means in 3 weeks we'll be showering any idiot leafs fan who disses this move with vituperatives.

we can't control the team, but we can control our atttitude toward it. wait 3 weeks, you'll be at least "fine " with this move.

So it would drive you nuts if they were internal hires but you wanted Vellucci? I am confused.

Step 1: everyone is super mad.

Step 2: everyone starts rationalizing.

Step 3: everyone starts getting excited about their rationalization.

Maybe Rod is the right guy. Maybe he's not. But the fan base cognoscenti is ridiculously quick to count this guy out because Reasons.

We don't know shit. Let's see what happens.

Yeah the longer this has sat with me today the more I’m good with it.

Smith will run the defense.

They’ll bring in someone to run the offense.

Roddy just needs to be accountability, player management, etc. He’ll know which buttons to press and how to identify the weak link.

I’ve officially flip flopped. Roddy will once again raise the Cup.

Has this been confirmed anywhere thus far? I haven't seen anything to indicate if Smith will/won't be retained.

I looked at this last year when his house hit the market so here's the update:

Briley (20), his daughter, is finishing up her sophomore year at James Madison, where she plays on their volleyball team.

Skyler (18), his oldest son, is getting ready to enroll at Michigan State in the fall, where he'll play hockey. He was drafted by the Oilers in the 6th round of last year's draft

Reece (17 or 18), his middle son, is finishing up his senior year in high school, so he'll be getting ready to move on to college in the fall

That leaves his youngest soon, Brooks, who's 6.

Informative and creepy. Thank you.

Sorry, I still can't get behind promoting two guys from within. It just leaves a terrible taste in my mouth.

I get it. But we just don't know.

There's so much despair here on this little corner of the internet. We care more than anyone else on the planet about this awful team, so everyone is prone to getting caremad so quickly.

I just don't think it's warranted for this choice.

The farm is stacked, we got the #2 pick, we've got an owner who we know at least has money he *could* spend, and we know relocation is a guaranteed non-issue for seven years. And we just promoted a guy to HC that a lot of folks behind the scenes seem to think was the best choice all along.

I dunno.

once it became more clear we weren't going to go outside the organization, vellucci was the pick for me considering his success behind the bench at other stops. i would have liked to have seen a search outside the organization for coach as well, but we had an internal option there that wouldn't have been a trainwreck.
