Confirmed with Link: Brind'Amour named head coach

Y'all wanna cry go ahead.

I love how everyone's hearts are broken because Mike Freaking Vellucci, another guy with no NHL HC experience, was the savior on the white horse because he's got the Checkers in the second round -- when if we'd just called up his actual players, we might not have missed the playoffs this year in the first place.

But keep crying.

I had hopes of an actual, you know, NHL coach. You know, somebody with some experience in the big boy chair.

"We want new direction for this franchise".

"Brindy, Waddell and Dudley. Yeah, okey.
How is that not a new direction?

Francis and Peters were the guys under an absent Karmanos.

Waddell, Dudley, and Brindy are the guys under an active Dundon.

I get the feeling that everyone has been chomping at the bit to be the first one to lambast Dundon every time an article comes out. It doesn't matter what's announced, its a race to be the first to be the most angry.

You wanna misconstrue go ahead.

I don't think everyone's hearts are broken because Mike Freaking Vellucci didn't get the job. People are pissed because a guy with zero HC experience at any level of hockey with a shitty resume was just handed the job.

But keep misconstruing.

Remember that heady time when we had a new billionaire owner who was going to save the team and keep them here in Raleigh? Remember how we all thought we were set to spend on free agents like Tavares and facility upgrades to draw them in? Remember how we thought that Waddel's days were numbered because his shepherding of the team through dark times wasn't needed any longer?

That was a good month.

Noun

false dichotomy (plural false dichotomies)
  1. A situation in which two alternative points of views are presented as the only options, whereas others are available.

I eagerly await your rants about how gutless and shitty this team is by this time next year. Should be good!

Underestimate Hurricanes' Rod Brind'Amour at your peril

Brind'Amour was responsible for the power play, yes, but was still operating under Peters' direction. He could communicate with the players informally, but managing the locker room and handling the captains was Peters' job, and for Brind'Amour to interfere would undercut the head coach's authority. As was the case under Francis, some of Brind'Amour's unique talents were impinged under Peters by the nature of his role.

So yes, there are risks here. Brind'Amour is an easy choice for new owner Tom Dundon, someone willing to take the job on the owner's terms, still without a general manager in place. But that does not mean he is the wrong choice.
...
It's fair to question whether Brind'Amour is the right choice for coach, but underestimate him at your peril. When given the responsibility to lead, and the autonomy to do it his way, he has yet to fail.

Lol

So who did you want? Mike Babcock? Paul Maurice is pretty good, right? Even though he was shitty here for years and everything was his fault. Or maybe Mike Keenan?

Good players have a way of making good coaches. Good thing we've got some better players coming.

We need better goaltending. Period. The rest of this is noise because everyone's mad.

Basically fluff and stuff that has been stated already.

As for the last sentence, I don't see how anyone can say it's true.

No one knows how much autonomy he's had, and if he's had any at all as an assistant coach then this looks even worse.

Thats been Hank's shtick since day one. Snarky and condescending and looking for an argument. Smart guy, but the tone gets really old.

Whaaaaaaaaat, but I thought I was explicitly told earlier in this thread that Brindy couldn't possibly have had any lack of authority due to the head coach/assistant coach dichotomy.

Everything ok with you?

Dundon talked about wanting to win now, change, and ridding our losing culture. Then hires Waddell and Brind'Amour who were part of all of the losing. Seems like these hires are more about being cheap and having his yes men in place. I know he has talked about a collaborative front office, but I'm not sure if I really trust the guy right now.
