This is what Eliteprospects is showing:

Goaltending:
Gibson
Adams
Williams
Maybe Berube
This has to be seen as a strength. However, it'll be time for one of Williams or Adams (likely Williams) to show that he is a legitimate goaltending prospect who generates victories. Wouldn't mind seeing Adams start a lot of games in the ECHL. Gibson is already an above-average AHL goaltender. I'm thinking that Snow is thinking that Berube will be on the Island. All in all, this is an interesting group of goaltenders and they all know that Soderstrom and Sorokin may be further internal competitors as soon as the 17-18 season.
Defense:
Pelech-Burroughs
Finn-Graham
Toews-Lafranchise
Juha-Obuchowski
Cullity-Leduc
Mayfield may be seen as a lock on the Island for now. I assumed that the minute Strait signed with Winnipeg. And it's the right thing too. As for the others, I'm not seeing a bonafide PP blueliner. I'm not seeing lots of size. We're seeing very little experience. But what the heck - if you've drafted a lot of Dmen, they have to be churned in the AHL and these boys are gonna have a lot of growing to do. Pelech and Finn would seem like the go-to guys. Pelech might have been on the Island if it weren't for the health set-back last season. Finn really picked things up in the second. Still, having these two as your top 2 is not how you best insulate the kids you're fostering. Toews is very interesting and I hope that he's an offensive factors back the second half of the season. Will be most curious to see if he copes well. Both Burroughs and Graham have to take on bigger roles. I expect nothing from the others at this point, even if Juha is interesting and Lafranchise was actually on a 35 point pace last season.
Forwards:
Kearns - Holmstrom - Winquist
MDC - Verhaeghe - JHS
Johnston - Schempp - Fritz
Connor Jones - Kellen Jones - Rowe
Lofquist - St. Denis - Barisha
Exciting are naturally MDC and JHS. Big year for both. MDC has MUCH to prove. Color me skeptical, cause I did not like his trends last year. I suspect JHS is going to get some points. I think he'll need only a little adjustment time before he's making some noise, because his game lives from his ability to move and dance, something many AHL Dmen have big problems with. He could be a ROTY candidate. I'm naturally interested in seeing Verhaege's continued development, as he's a kid I've liked since seeing him at the U18. I'll be curious to see if Schempp is even AHL material. Tanner Fritz is IMHO the better player, but only entering his first full AHL season (2nd year of pro). He was off to like 48 AHL points last season in his 19 AHL games.
I seriously doubt that Kearns - who I like - will be chipping in 50 points again and Ben Holmstrom is not here to be a scorer. Former Everett Silvertips scorer Winquist actually had 30 points in 35 AHL games last year and I'm thinking he is supposed to be the 'proven' AHL scorer they're banking on. Yikes! Will Canadian Israeli Berisha be able to turn his 45 OHL goals last season into a nice intro-year in pro hockey? Is there a lot more to 6'3" 201 pound Lofquist than he was able to show with a lousy Oshawa team in his first year outside Sweden? ECHL scorer Rowe put up 7 goals in 11 AHL games after 3 years of a better than PPG pace in the ECHL, so does that mean he's ready to contribute?
I'd have to assume that Travis St. Denis is on his way to the ECHL. The guy had 49 points with Quinnipiac last season and the Isles have obviously seen a good bit of him while watching Toews, but is a 5'7", 160 pounder ready to contribute more at the AHL level than the names above? What about little tyke twins Connor and Kellen Jones, both of whom are also former Quinnipiac stars and looked pretty good in the ECHL. Particularly Connor is somewhat proven in a lower line capacity after his 13 points in 51 games last season. Lastly, what exactly is the plan with Ross Johnston. He seemed to do very well in his 18 ECHL games (15 points), but I had the feeling that the AHL was a number too big for a guy who is signed to possibly be another Matt Martin. Here's hoping he's ready to have a big season in a number of ways, as in 70 games, 10-10-20, 200 PMs, a good 20 fights.
BONUS:
So what about Boulton? Will things be just like last season? Or will he actually do the Carkner thing on the farm? I think he could get 25 points at the AHL level. And at the moment, it appears Quine is in the last year of his ELC and we're all assuming he's on the Island, but if he's the odd man out up there, no reason for him to sit around if he can be THE man down in BPort.
I guess there'll be some tweaks here and there. Looks interesting, but this doesn't look like the makings of an AHL playoff team, much less one that makes noise.
