Holmstrom had 3 points in yesterday's 7-4 victory.

In general, he has 1-5-6 in the last four games.
Also Bolduc had an assist. Only 5 points in 46 games but 3 of those points has come in the past 6 games. Maybe he’s back in the groove he was in last season.

4 assists for Czarnik as well. Want him to slot in the 4 th line next season but know it won’t happen

Josh Bailey had 3 goals in 2 games and 7 points in 4 games a little over a week ago.

Considering how bad Bridgeport has been over the last few years, I’d be grasping at straws too. Hope this is a trend but it’s way too small of a sample size.

I was at the Saturday Bridgeport Islanders game and was pleasantly surprised by the offensive explosion. Completely unexpected.

A few quick observations as I tried to key on the following players:

- Czarnik is a solid, AHL/NHL tweener-type player. He seems to be in the right place at the right time and is always engaged. I prefer him as the 5C, over players like Cole Bardreau, Tanner Fritz, etc.

- Holmstrom can skate and chip in offensively. I can't see him scoring many goals in the NHL, but he could be a solid RW3, alongside say JGP, and he will be able to keep the puck moving and set up others. He still appears to have room to fill out more, and ideally would play a bit more of a physical style, as opposed to just poke checks and the like.

- Bolduc is a bit of a mystery. He clearly has the requisite size and can skate. Yet he still seems a bit passive, especially when had a few opportunities to move out smaller players set up in front of the net, but didn't get much push most of the time. Otherwise he mostly seemed to play within the system and was OK.

- Skarek had a solid game in net. He stopped a lot of shots and made the big saves when he had to. It looked like he had good positioning overall and was very calm.

Otherwise I was surprised by the overall play of the forward group, definitely better than I expected, and I thought Hutton was solid too.

Regarding the players you mentioned, consistency is the key. The ability to play a good game night after night. That hasn’t been there for Holmstrom, Skarek, and Bolduc. We see the flashes of their talent so we know they’re capable of it. Bringing that every game is needed.

Talking about Bolduc for a minute, I agree that he’s not been outstanding or “dominating the AHL”, but I do like that since the beginning of February he’s been playing steady defense, not a liability, been a part of a lot of goals recently. He’s been joining the rush periodically and getting back in place. I like what he’s shown the last 10-15 games.

I'm not too worried about Bolduc at this point. He's 21 and is a 6'4", 210 pound defenseman. Unless they're top 5 stud picks, those guys take a bit longer to marinate.

Big win in Utica tonight, playoffs are alive for this team. Czarnik is really good offensive player at Ahl level. A couple assists tonight and set up many more, Holmstrom, Durandeau, along with Czarnik with standout nights. Schneider playing really well right now in net, it’s vet group but the younger prospect types are really contributing with the vet leadership.

I’ll keep beating the drum for Grant Hutton. He is having an effective season in Bridgeport and would be fine as the Islanders 7th defenseman. Mainly partnered with Samuel Bolduc, both of them have had good second halves of the season.

Bridgeport is still 2 points behind WBS for the last playoff spot. The trouble now is the games remaining. BPT has 12 while WBS has 16 games left. BPT is in a tough spot but it’s good to see them battling.

I’d love to see both Hutton and Salo get a good number of games at the NHL level before the end of the season.

With Bridgeport still in the playoff hunt, I suppose it makes more sense to let those guys battle for a potential AHL playoff spot before bringing them up. Mayfield’s injury may change things and a call up for Hutton wouldn’t be surprising.

Yeah could catch Hartford or Hershey who has not played as well lately.

Also to Hutton he isn’t bad and might be in mix for 7th guy next year definitely

How often do teams go with a right handed shot for their 7D?

I feel like teams prefer a left handed shot because those guys typically have experience playing on their off side.

Looking forward a year, if Lou sees enough from Hutton maybe he decides to accumulate assets for Mayfield on or before next year’s TDL?

Not Lou’s style I know.

What’s in the water in Bridgeport (actually today it’s Toronto).

B-Isles out to a quick 3-0 lead on the Marlies.

Make that a 4-0 lead
Playing well, they can make playoffs and they are trying to seize opportunity. I like Durandeau, could see him as nhl bottom six. He skates well, has some ability and plays with a nice motor. It could be the rotation but no Wotherspoon today, I wonder if he meets isles tomorrow at UBS.

I thought Wotherspoon was hurt. Missed a few games last week.

With Mayfield (and apparently Wotherspoon) out, it’s the perfect time to bring up Hutton and give him a cup of coffee.

NYI needs to find out if he is a viable depth RD behind Pulock/Dobson/Mayfield.

What the heck is the deal with AHL teams not all playing the same amount of games in a season? Ridiculous.
