They absolutely deserved that one.

TBL really should be kicking themselves to squander that kind of performance from a journeyman goaltender. He will not play like that again, and they certainly won't face many goaltenders that give up 3 goals on 4 shots.
I hear you. Samsonov is embarrassingly bad.

Samsonov will probably figure it out but right now he's so awful. Terrible positioning, can't make a simple save, can't make big saves. It's just awful. He lost his net tonight for awhile. I don't really care if Woll can't be great every day, unacceptable performance from Samsonov.

The Leafs outplayed the Lightning by a lot tonight. They got lucky with cheap penalty calls and a terrible goaltender.

Even the fourth line was OK tonight. Holmberg was much more involved than Minten.

Liljegren was fantastic tonight I thought. Our best D.
Agree 100% with this post, my thoughts exactly.

I actually don’t blame Sammy a ton, he was hung out to dry. Should have had the third one but even that is a cross ice pass labelled top corner from freaking Kucherov. Sometimes you pull the goalie to shake the team, I thought that was the case here more then Sammy sucking.

That said though, Woll answers the bell and turns in a beauty from there, and that’s something.

50+ shots in a comeback win. offense is there. tighten up the D and we go on a roll.
I don't think tightening up on D is the problem. Is it perfect? hell no, but what teams defence is. Samsonov hasn't been great and we've been doing a good job limiting teams to 27.8 shots against per game atm which I think is very good for a team that is said to be bad defensively.

Hung to dry on 4 shots. I dunno about that one. NHL goaltenders make those stops all the time. He needs to make them, if not someone else will.

He let in 2 normal shots, nothing special on them

Had he let them over the span of the game, fine whatever, but 3 of the first 4 is just not good enough

The defence didn’t even do anything, tampa ran the same play twice

Win the faceoff, pass to kucherov in the very high slot, maybe even above that and he shot, best cleanly

Knies and Domi have some chemistry together, as for Samsonov, he drank too much with Vasi, Kuch and other Russians in Florida. That’s their deliberate sabotage of our goalie.

You can’t blame Sammy on the first two goals but that third goal Cokecherov was him not being on the scene - and it was 3 goals in 4 shots for a .250 save percentage.

He arbitrated, and I’m sure he can put it together but they can always walk away.

Woll was calm, cool, collected and in control. Ride the Woll.

Huh... confused... but the guy in the selke talk last year?!?
Year's ago Babcock said a winger could fall asleep and play defense because their defensive assignments were so limited.

Watch Tavares and Matthews chasing and engaging in board battles and then watch the wingers standing still and ask yourself who's job is significantly more easy.

If Marner is such and exceptional defensive player and passer... Why isn't he a center?

If he was put into the center, he would fail miserably over the physical aspect of the center defensive role.

There's a reason wingers never win the Selke.

I know, but yes, yes he was. Miserable defensive efforts from the team, and high danger chances all off them. Yes, you just gotta make a save somehow on something, but he wasn’t getting any help there.
