Not saying it’s rigged every year...

Just this year? Why not in 2005 when we were tied with the Penguins and a few other teams with the most ping pong balls and a generational player was there at #1. Meanwhile we ended up with the worst draft position of all teams that had the most balls. We ended up with Staal after a trade up.

This is fine, but somebody tell Burkie that almost no team wins without luck in the lottery or being put in a position to draft top 5 talent in the draft.

This is good. The Rangers are drawing fire because they’re relevant again.

Burke didn't insult Gorton at all, give me a break. He wasn't upset that the Rangers won the draft lottery. He was upset about the system being broken, and I agree with him. It's a terrible system.

And as far as his claim about luck...again, he's right to an extent. We certainly got lucky with Kakko and now Lafreniere. But luck doesn't win you games and nor does backing into the lottery multiple times. Ask the Oilers and Devils.

Gorton worked for guys like Zibanejad, Fox, Panarin, Trouba, K'Andre, Nils, Chytil, Kravstov, ADA, Lemieux, Lindgren, Robertson, Jones, Schneider, etc. We also arguably got terribly unlucky with Andersson (I said arguably)...

No matter what anyone says though, if we win a Cup under Gorton it's because of him and the work he's put in. Not because of luck...

Isn’t this the guy who couldn’t win with a loaded Leafs roster in the early 2000s?

He’s kinda right but someone has to win the lottery and you can’t have teams tanking for it.

The Rangers didn’t tank they did it the right way and they got lucky and I’d like to the think that’s good hockey karma

I don’t think he insulted Gorton. He said they did a good job (which is true) and got lucky with the lottery (also true)

I didn’t see any part where he mentions “no draft skill”?

this is nonsense and we have thicker skin than this.

Outside of a precious few, nobody has thick skin on these boards.
It's ridiculous..

From the 1st expansion for the 1967-68 season to the 2019 draft the Rangers had had exactly 1 top 5 draft pick in pretty much 50 years. The Rangers even when they haven't been good have never tanked.

Burke's crankiness here is a little much IMO and he should step back a little. Maybe it's not really an insult thrown in Gorton's direction but his going off wasn't necessary. Rangers would be on the same exact path they are now even if we picked 8 last year and 12 this year and we'd still be in the middle of a pretty remarkable rebuild even without Kakko or Lafreniere.

This is why the Rangers building a winner is good for hockey.

Because fans will give a shit about what the Rangers do, even if their vested interest sounds like the ramblings of a tired elementary school student.

Go get a decent haircut and take a nap Brian.

When you wake up, get back to work on that faux Canadien accent you tried adopting years ago when you worked in the league office you f***ing wanker.
