Seems like he's taken the role of Callahan by blocking everything in sight...except he holds onto his stick. The PK humming along like a well oiled machine.

And doesn't make blind passes from behind the net that end up on the opposition's stick.

Moore and Boyle should be resigned for $4 m combined ($1.7 & $2.2) assuming it includes a home discount.3 year contracts to both. these role spots typically get one / two-year deals so an extra year or two are meant to somewhat compensate for the discount.
I agree with giving a contract to Carcillo for $1 m while trading Dorcett to save on the spread. Poo should be resigned too. Given his "traveling" around NHL history he should also give Rangers a discount for some stability.
I think Stralman priced himself out of the Rangers budget - good for him even though I wish we could keep him. Klein slides into his spot on top 4 and there should be several options available within the organization to compete for the bottom 2 D role next season.
Regardless of what has or will happen the rest of the play-offs Richards should be bought out. The risk of the negative outcome is just too great.

If RB and his reports are to be believes we can't afford him... that makes me think he could be looking at close to 3 million a year.

Paul Gaustad makes over 3 million a year, for perspective.

The Rangers haven't engaged Boyle's agent in a contract. They re-signed Lundqvist and Girardi. Tried to re-sign Callahan. Made an offer or didn't make an offer to Stralman. Brooks wrote they made an offer. The Rangers reportedly have a $3M budget for Stralman. The Rangers have $53M committed to 12 players. $46.5M for 11 with Richards getting an amnesty buyout. Cap is set at $69M-$70M. How can the Rangers afford Boyle? Prust got 4 years/$10M in free agency two years ago. Boyle will get more based on his play in the playoffs. Other teams are watching the games too. The Rangers are fortunate they didn't re-sign Prust for that money. The Rangers offered Prust 3 years/$6M.

Dan Rosen reported there has been no indication that the Rangers plan to re-sign Boyle

"My heart has always been here," Boyle told NHL.com on Saturday.

Boyle might have to pull his heart out of New York City and lose his allegiance to the Rangers after this season, his fifth in the Big Apple. He can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and there has been no indication from the Rangers that they plan to re-sign him.

However, the uncertainty of Boyle's future here has added another layer to his motivation in the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He's not close to ready for his Ranger career to end, a fact that has only incentivized him to be a factor in the playoffs.

The Rangers are reaping the rewards.

The Rangers made a good trade for Boyle. 3rd round pick in 2010. The Rangers got 5 years out of Boyle. Its Boyle's time to cash in on his success.

Gaustad got 4 years and $13M. $3.25M. The Rangers can't afford to pay a 4th line forward $3.25M.

Yea it's basically this. If he'll take less than 2M sure bring him back. If he's thinking Gaustad type 3M that's almost as bad as Callahan wanting 6M+ and in that case he can go. To be fair Gaustad is a slightly better player but it's still very similar.

Question: would anyone take Boyle at a long term deal worth not a lot of money. IE: 6 years: 12 million. A lot of players like the financial security of long term deals.

Gaustad contract was bad. Prust, while overpriced under old cap is more comparable under new one. Boyle shouldn't consider rebuilding team, SC contenders will view him for what he is and will price him accordingly. My point is that he will be offered more $$ by other teams but hopefully not so much more to take home discount out consideration. Either way there is going to be mo hard feeling (maybe a few tears though)

GM's watch the playoffs, the later you go the more they appreciate the role players.

Prust got his huge offer after the last NYR run to the ECF.

3 mill a year Boyle could get from a lot of teams.

I think, with the way D. Moore has played, and the fact we can probably get him for half of Boyle's price, means he's the natural replacement.

They'll miss Boyle's size and PK ability, though.

Boyle is what he is, and it's nice to have a coach that realizes what he is.

Fourth liner. Eat time on the PK. Win faceoffs. Don't sniff the PP or the ice near the end of the game if we're trailing. Excellent deployment from AV

Very true and that's why the Boyle criticism has stopped completely and been exchanged by alot of well deserved praise. Torts mismanaged Boyle gravely, he always tried to believe players were more than they were. All those useless goons he wanted for "multipurpose roles". All fiascos.

Now Boyle is utilized to the maximum of his ability and he plays great hockey. Boyle is a very solid defensive forward, not a 20 goal scorer. Although Boyle really has worked on his skating and that has helped him tremendously. This has also made him more effective as a power forward than as a center. And when his confidence grows in his own abilities, he scores a goal here and there and even throws a great long pass once and then. ;) What a beautiful shorthanded goal they created yesterday.

I also believe Boyle might want to cash in, which is sad. We can't match the crazy UFA money. It's our depth that has made this team good and it'll be hard to keep that up.

This guy has just been huge on the PK. Blocks everything in sight. Huge piece of this team. The man is a wall. Please, please, please resign him.

Under appreciated asset.
I remember when some were saying let's dump him for less, I said no, hold out for equiv of 1st round value at min.

He is now improved and worth more.
Try to extend and keep, if possible.

Try to juggle all/most of our guys/sign extend reasonably as necessary/immediately move 1 or 2 for cap for lower contracts/picks.

I salute you, BB

This is a big IF, but if we can flip Girardi + ++ into Ekblad, who + ELC, that would leave some financial cushion, making it easier for guys like Boyle if it is still a reasonably do-able number.

We still have to try to sign some of these guys and flip them without being greedy for a pick. Even if a future one down the road.

We might be able to keep Boyle. MAYBE.
Depends on his number and doing a LOT of juggling.

Unless you're his agent or family member/friend, that's a silly thing to want since it'll hurt the team.

Agreed.

I love Boyle. One of my favorite Rangers currently. But its bad to overpay players like him. If he leaves though, the Rangers would definitely miss him.

I don't think the Rangers have a chance of getting Ekblad.

The Rangers with the Richards BO will be able to afford to keep everyone they want to keep.. cap space will not be a problem.
