I'd give Boyle 4/10 in a heartbeat.

i wouldnt...im not sure you can go over 2 mil a year with either of those guys. 4th line is huge, but in the end, it's more important to fill the top of your lineup. theyve got cost controlled kids that CAN play if need be.

A 4th line of say...

Carcillo/Dorsett - Miller - Fasth would be like 4-5 mil a year cheaper than the proposed same line next year, and could give you some good minutes.

as good defensively? no. but good minutes, and they are kids who we all project to be future pieces of the puzzle.

2.5 a year for 4 years? The irony there is our current 3rd line (Pou-Moore-Zooks) make less than 3.5 mill combined.

We have a lot of guys we need to resign. I would try to prioritize as much as possible. I think we have around 17 mill if we keep Brad Richards.

prioritize is a big thing.

i think priority 1 should be to keep the 3rd line in tact. they carried us almost the entire season offensively.

bring back zucc brassard and pouliot. pouliot less so than the other 2...but if you can give him years over dollars, id be all over that. 4 years, 8 mil...hes never been given any kind of term on his contract.

That is so important. We have a lot of key guys we absolutely probably need to resign and then there are guys we would like to resign. If we keep Richards we have around 17 mill to resign guys. I would prioritize in 3 different levels. Must have, should have, and like to have.

Kreider
Brass
Zooks

Pou
Stralman

Boyle
Dom Moore
John Moore

In my opinion the value of the 4th line starts with defense, then also adds PK ability and then added the ability to log minutes by keeping the puck in the opposite end with an effective forecheck. On top of that Boyle & Moore are the two best faceoff men on the team. Which allows them to be the defensive zone line of choice.

The line you proposed would literally take away just about every strength that has made the 4th line successful this year. Worse defensively by a lot, faceoff ability gone. Maybe Fast can PK. It would probably be able to keep the puck in the offensive zone if they can win it in the defensive zone to start with.

Add in that 10min a night with Carcillo is not how you want 2 or your few remaining prospects with actual NHL potential developing and that line to me is a classic bad decision IMO. Looks ok on paper but could cost the team and org a lot.

Personally I think one of Boyle/DMoore should be a priority over Pouliot.

Pouliot would be great to have back if under 2M x 2 but for all the praise he scored 36 points and takes some awful penalties. That LW spot is a place Miller or Fast could slot in. Or another cheap UFA. Brass and Zucc drive that line.

Boyle had a worse penalty differential than Pouliot.

You can say that Pouliot is a passenger on that line, but most players he's played with in recent seasons has done better with him than without.

I'd probably do the same. Not sure. If those guys are re-signed, that may leave space for guys like Miller, Fast, Lindberg..

_______ - Brassard - Zuccarello
Boyle - D. Moore - _______

the defensive zone starts and the faceoffs are a fair point, and agian i want both of them back...but i have trouble making the math work with all the UFAs we have.

again, we will likely have to give term over dollars going forward.

I think Dorsett is already under contract next season. Is that correct? If so I do not know if we will resign Carcillo.

I would re-sign Moore, Boyle, and Pouliot, and maybe Carcillo to like 1 year, $1M, and trade Dorsett.

The $600K saved going from Dorsett's $1.6 to Carcillo's $1M can be used to keep Moore Boyle and Pouliot, would allow the team to essentially recoup $200K on each contract.

Boyle 4/10 isn't terrible, but I would hope it would be somewhere around 3/7. Moore will likely re-sign relatively cheap, he likes it here and he'll probably want an incremental raise. Pouliot is the question mark - I agree with -31- that Pouliot is not simply a passenger on that line - he brings an edge to the line. He's pretty damn good. I want him back.

Anyone else think MacTavish is good comparison?

Both in specialized production and importance of role.

Not sure on the stats though. MacT was god like on faceoffs.

I'm a big fan of Pou. I would love to lock up everyone on that line for 3-4 years and have some consistancy for once.

Boiler has proved a lot of people wrong. Guy is so selfless and does what he has to do to help this team. Been like that for a while now especially in playoffs.

I will be distraught if we don't re-sign him.

Shut up and take our money.

This. I am buying his jersey if we re-sign.

I have always LIKED Boyle, but these playoffs, there is no one I have come to LOVE more.

I think he might be my favorite player on the team.

Seems like he's taken the role of Callahan by blocking everything in sight...except he holds onto his stick. The PK humming along like a well oiled machine.

He's always been huge in the playoffs, I said it last year when he was being bashed. I'll take his inconsistency at times during the regular season if it means I get playoff Boyle.

That was a very well deserved star tonight, guy needs a contract Sather. He was telling the crowd to get even louder than they were, if that was possible when he came out for 3 stars, so awesome.
