Brian Boyle

That's a good thing though, no?

Dorsett pushes Boyle down, and the team has (5) centers dressed every night in case of injury. Say Clowe or Dorsett get 5 minutes? Boyle can move up and take on more time. IMO it is ideal to hold onto him.

Absolutely it's a good thing.

My gripes regarding Boyle has been the lack of offence from him. I knew full well that his 21 goal season was a fluke and that 5-10 goals is what we should expect. The problem is that he lacks vision, creativity and talent to man a center spot on any line.

Limit his scope to patrolling the walls, going to the net and getting in on the forecheck and I think you have a solid 4th line LW/C

I have always maintained that there is a place on this NYR team for Boyle. Just held firm that 3rd line center was not the proper place.

4th line LW and PK duty and we are set.

I disslike boyle for personal reasons. but he gets crapped on way to much. boyle is 4th line center and is an adequite 3rd line winger. He is definatly one of our better pkers and defensive forwards. The issue is he gets put in positions where he should not be like the pp and playing with krieder.

Did he sleep with your girlfriend or something? The personal reasons would make a hellova a story on here. lol

Boyle's a -11 on the season... no one even comes close.
Miller's -7 in 3/4 of the even strength ice time is comparable. Halpern's was a -5 in limited time as well. Gaborik was a -8.

+/- is an horse **** stat anyways.

hard to say it's bs stat in our case when Step is right up there with Nash. Granted it's more reflective of lines and personnel on the ice including defense pairing but it's a weird stat for Boyle when he's regarded as defensively sound.

On third thought, that line scores .4 goals a year.

The list of sound defensive players with large minuses over history is long.

Players who face the opposition's top players and start the majority of their shifts in the defensive zone will have that reflected in +/-.

Agree.

Lowest +/- on the Hurricanes: Jordan Staal, far and away their best defensive forward.

No offense 31, but I call shenanigans. Your the same guy who pulls out random esoteric stats like Corsi to support your argument.

You can't have it both ways.

How is that having it both ways?

I find Corsi to be an informative stat to measure puck possession. I find +/- to be an uninformative stat unfortunately used for a variety of purposes.

No team has ever won a cup with Brian Boyle on their roster. That stat sells me on the Boyle hate train.

:sarcasm:

Of course it is:shakehead

I hate Boyle, but I'm not about to use his +/- as an argument against him. Callahan consistently records low +/- ratings. That tells you everything you need to know.

Yeah, let's stick to his skating stride and how much he falls down.

And dont forget this: :(

Boyle is seemingly getting more hate now, when hes playing well and theres no viable replacement.

The "he makes me feel :(" agenda fully at work

I had no idea you felt so strongly about +/-.

I don't but it is interesting that you are so interested in shots per TOI (not scoring chances) and puck possession stats but not actual goals for and against at ES. there are variables beyond the players' control in all of these stats but you cannot cherry pick and remain credible.

You're right, Corsi does have a lot of the same flaws as +/-, but it's an improvement in a lot of ways. The big one is sample size. It's also per TOI while +/- is an absolute.

You can call it cherrypicking if you want, but I don't think I need to give equal weight to all stats.
