The Boyle discussion is an important and legitimate one.

Its not our fault you're distracted by shiny things and quite clearly think that Kreider and Miller are now "big part(s) of the team" with their 7 combined games of regular season NHL experience.
First off you missed the point. I have no problem with boyle. I have no allegience to anyone. Tha fact is you play well than you play.

A good 4th line center and an excellent PKer. Put me down for "Should be out there instead of Halpern". Can slot in anywhere on the 3rd/4th line in case of an injury.

Boyle was one of our best players in our series vs the sens before he got that concussion. People in here saying he is a fringe NHL player are hilarious.

Bench the leading goal scorer.

Lets bench Hank too.

He's only scored in 3 of the 10 games. He did get a hat trick in one game and I believe he netted 2 in another game. His goal pace is not reflective of what we truly need from him. He is a greatly skilled player, but he simply has to be more dominant game in and game out.

If benching Boyle brings him up to his potential, perhaps the same would work for Gaborik

But this has been talked to death. Dominance has never been Gaboriks game. It never will be. His streaky goal scoring methods are what he is.

Boyle should be playing instead of Asham. If we're talking about actual value on the ice, Boyle brings a lot more to the table. Asham is the better fighter (which isn't saying much) but he's slow, lacks any offensive skill, and is at best, an average d zone player. Boyle is a faster skater (again, not saying much), can actually score every once in a while (although it has been a while), and most importantly, plays the PK.

If torts would actually play Boyle like a 4th line PK specialist we would not be having this discussion right now. Instead, Boyle's been set up to fail. Throw him on the ice for 7-10 minutes with PK time and we're fine.

I'm all for playing Boyle instead of Ash when there's no need for a fighter, but this is flat out wrong. Asham used to be a pretty good skater and compered to Boyle he's still fast. If we're talking skating with the puck the difference is even more significant.

As for chipping in goals Ash has the far better shot ainec.

It's the PK, faceoff ability and and defense that make me want to see Boyler out there instead of Asham. When it comes to offense, skating and skill Asham is the superior player (as you said. Not saying a lot).

While I don't believe Boyle is a fringe NHL player, basing anything off 3 playoff games instead of his entire body of work is also hilarious.

And for of the, *gasp* dominance, shown by a player like Nash, he has 2 goals.

I'll take Gaborik's "invisible" 6, thanks.

I'm completely schizophrenic when it comes to Boyler. I like some of things he can do (Defense, Faceoffs, PK, sporadic physical play), but Tortorella's use of him really made me start to hate him last year. It wasn't even Boyle's fault, but I found myself wanting him traded last year because it was like as long as Tortorella is the coach, we're going to see Boyle doing things he shouldn't be doing, so lets save Tortorella from himself.

I also thought the short leash a lot of Rangers had last year, which I liked, was never applied to Boyle when he was mucking things up, which really made me start to resent Boyle, like he was some sort of teacher's pet, or something. Dubinksy had a TO, he'd be benched for the entire 3rd period. Boyle had three, he's playing big minutes down the stretch like we just didn't see him cough the puck up three times.

But look, I love Boyle on the 4th line, I love him on the PK, and I think he's a useful player (although I don't think he's a 3rd liner). And whether the special treatment I thought he was getting was my own imagination, or real, with him getting scratched last game, that might finally be over, and when Boyle is going good, he's out there doing what he can do well, and when he's off, Halpern is out there instead. This could be good for everybody.

Seriously. Sometimes it isn't all about the stats, but that doesn't mean you should ignore stats!

Gaborik flat out produces, that is so valuable to have in a player.

most of you know that I am not a fan of Brian Boyle, but I have never said that he doesn't have a place on this team.

I also don't think they can or expect the Rangers to roll 4 scoring lines.

I do want more scoring from the 3rd line and I have no faith in Boyle's ability to do that.

I DO have fait in his ability to play a solid defensive role and be one hell of a penalty killer.

Up a goal late in the game I have no isues with him taking a defensive zone face off.

Down a goal late in the game, u ntil the game is tied, I'm of the opinion that until teh game is tied or over, he should never see the ice.

Again, he has a place on this team, but it should be on the 4th line with Powe and Halpern and as a kep PK'er

Brian Boyle has never "sucked" on this team. I have little regard for the hockey IQ of anyone who's said that. He's been a hard working two way grinder that has handled his assignments and what's been asked of him very well.

Boyle not being in the lineup is a GOOD thing. What I mean by that is that we actually, for the moment, have WAY more depth than we did a week or 2, ago. It looks like we have 3 lines that can actually score. Boyle is just going to be one of those players that gets cycled in and out of the lineup based on matchup. It's a good problem to have. Can you make a case for Asham sitting instead of Boyle? Well, sure, but again, that depends on matchup. Boyle can't fight, and if Stu Suckel isn't in, we need someone who can throw-down. Odd man out=Boyle.

This all day.

I said on Twitter that Boyle is doing shots with Bickel and Eminger. His suit is probably drenched with sweat by now.

Asham and Halpern both laid down pretty good claims to their lineup spots today. Thought they played really well (for the two periods that I actually saw)
