Boyle should be playing instead of Asham. If we're talking about actual value on the ice, Boyle brings a lot more to the table. Asham is the better fighter (which isn't saying much) but he's slow, lacks any offensive skill, and is at best, an average d zone player. Boyle is a faster skater (again, not saying much), can actually score every once in a while (although it has been a while), and most importantly, plays the PK.

If torts would actually play Boyle like a 4th line PK specialist we would not be having this discussion right now. Instead, Boyle's been set up to fail. Throw him on the ice for 7-10 minutes with PK time and we're fine.

You actually know nothing. Not hyperbole.

Brian Boyle has never "sucked" on this team. I have little regard for the hockey IQ of anyone who's said that. He's been a hard working two way grinder that has handled his assignments and what's been asked of him very well.

Who cares what regard you have or don't have? If he's not on the 4th line he's not helping the team. The 4th line looked great without him tonight btw.

It was one game......wait a few games to see how the line looks and THEN you can judge.

I've been watching him mishandle pucks for three years. I know what good bottom 6 play looks like and i saw it tonight. BB will get another chance and he better be good. His days of being Torts' pet seem to be over.

my question is: if everybody stays this good do we trade Brian for a defenseman or keep him for depth? we still need some more testing, but demand for size down the middle is always there an he may be overvalued because of it

We're going to have injuries.

There isn't a D man that would be offered for Boyle that I'd want.

He's a 4th line center that can pk.

I was never on that weird Sidney Boyle bandwagon when he had more than a few pucks bounce off of him into the net. But I'm not giving up on him for what he is (4th line center that can pk). That Ottawa series makes me think he can be effective. At least a lot more than what he can bring in with a trade. Hopefully this is a boot in his ass to be better in the other teams' zone.

While I don't believe Boyle is a fringe NHL player, basing anything off 3 playoff games instead of his entire body of work is also hilarious.

He was our best shut down center, best guy in the dot, one of our top PKers, a year removed from a 20 goal season. Better?

He gets a lot of pucks to the net. He's more skilled than most think and he finishes his checks. Don't want to see him go anywhere.

Unless the rangers get a overpayment Boyle is not going anywhere.

Watch this:

Boyle, Eminger, Bickel, 4th;

Turris, Karlsson, 1st.

We're going to have injuries.

this doesn't change anything. we're going to have injuries on defense and offense. it's basically just picking where we feel we need the depth more. personally i'm curious as to whether or not boyle could play defense as the 6d if gilroy bums out. he played d growing up.

getting an overpayment isn't out of the books either. demand for a big body down the middle is always high and sather has been beasting it lately.

I dont want Boyle going anywhere. He belongs on the 4th line while he can also play on 3rd line if we have injuries. Really good PKer as well. He'd be sorely missed. It's the people that expect 20 goals again that tend to hate him the most.

The 4th line showed up tonight though, eventually Boyle in fit halpern

I was all for playing him, but as much as Asham is a below average offensive player he seems to be a little better than Boyle now. Also, with Asham over Boyle we don't have one bad skater on the team. Keep it as is!

Now I'm fine with sitting Boyle simply as to not mess with whatever chemistry we have working right now.

There's no reason to move Boyle. He doesn't have enough value on his own to acquire anything meaningful, and to use him as a throw-in would be silly. He's a good depth player and as noted is excellent on the PK. He's not breaking our cap by any means, so why move depth? This sounds like one of those typical HF "make a move for the sake of making a move" kinds of things.

Boyle is now a spare piece/4th liner/PK specialist. He should NEVER sniff the 3rd line, again, nor does he deserve to.

Boyle has improved every year on FO's. He blocks shots and is above average on FO's.

4th liner.

No way you can get rid of him because of depth issues. Just keep him under 12 mins a game and off the ice when trailing in the 3rd unless on a PK.

I agree 100%. The guy should be a very good 4th liner, right now, our 4th line just has good chemistry.

If his cap hit is not restricting us there's no reason to move him. There will be injuries and he can fill in on the 4th line if someone else has to be moved up.

Team looks good for 2 games and now looks to have a little depth and people want to ship Boyle out.

Lets say we do that and then someone gets hurt, all of sudden you don't have depth again.

Besides, my gut tells me our best team has Boyle in the lineup. I'm not sure for who yet, but dont throw away Boyle like he isn't good at what he does.

If you are really that worried about the 6th d spot, rental dmen go for picks at the deadline. Don't need to move a roster player for one.
