he was*** better... no way in hell has he been and even worse-- he's inconsistent so he can't be relied on.
he's worse than powe/halpern so far this season. worse than asham before the injury. worse than haley has been and doesn't bring what haley does in terms of a legitimate physical presence on the ice.
no way is boyle consistently better than them right now. hell, i think he's barely been better than bickel...

Boyle had a good game in the same way that a Blind squirrel can find an acorn. Doesn't happen often, but it happens.

yeah when he gets benched he comes back and plays with heart for one game. either this lights a fire under his ass or like last time he goes back to the press box

him acknowledging his lack of it makes me hope it will. I like the guy but I am not opposed to trading anyone but Hank and Cally in the grand scheme of things.

Weird post. Boyle has scored 33 goals in his last two seasons. Betts had a total of 44 goals in 6+ NHL seasons.

Label me a Boyle neutralist. He shouldn't be getting top-9 minutes unless he's really on, but to go as far to say that he's not valued at all on the penalty kill or as a shut down defensive forward is just asinine. Sure, the guy could use some work on his offensive game, but he's still a good NHL player.
Boyle has a place on this team, it's just that he falls above Halpern on the depth chart, and so he gets top-9 minutes.

I hate Boyle. But him getting scratched, while Bickel played forward minutes two games ago, was one of the more Pejorative Slured things I've ever seen a hockey coach do. Totally ruined my enjoyment of not having to see Boyle play Top 9 minutes.
Boyle should take every defensive zone faceoff, be on the 1st unit PK, and center a 4th line that gets 4-6 minutes of ES time. That's it. He'd be productive, and it'd be hard to continue to hate him. I don't know why Torts continues to put him in positions he is ****ing terrible at.

The upside part was a quip, since Blair Betts no longer plays hockey, and how limited Boyle as a player has become, similar to what Betts role was as a Ranger.

But if Boyle takes very defensive zone face off, he'll end up with a lot more TOI than anyone would want. You can't always win the faceoff and get back to the bench.

Boyle is good without the puck and frigging terrible with the puck and in the offensive zone. He can barely handle a pass and forget about him driving the puck for more than 5 feet in moderate traffic without losing it. If Boyle is one of the players in a grind cycle, the puck will be lost within seconds.
He's even ineffective in front of the goalie, every time there's a rebound and Boyle is digging for rebounds, you see his number in the camera while the puck trickles out behind him. My advice to him when it comes to anticipation would be to do the exact opposite of what he expects in his gut feeling, turn 180 degrees and get the rebound. I've stopped counting how many times that happened last season, it was hilarious. The conclusion is his offensive awareness is terrible.

I just read a quote yesterday from McDonagh who said Boyle hits hard and it amps the team up when he is on his game.
I have to laugh at this cult mentality that has somehow come to the conclusion that a 6'7 240lb man hits soft. Go ask the opposition if they like being hit by Boyle.

Problem with this is that when Boyle finishes his checkes, he's SO slow that he's out of position.
He HAS to cheat in that regards so that he is not abandoning his defensive positioning.
Boyle is not the kind of player that is going to get in on Defence and disrupt opposing teams with his speed and physicality. He's not fast and he's rarely physical and when he does engage along the walls and in the corners, I'm embarrassed in how often he's the guy picking himself up off the ice.
Dude has NO SNARL to his game and for a guy that size? That's a frickin shame.
