Anyone buy Bickel. I i initially thought I hears them announce a game misconduct against him last night and was happy. Why he plays I have no idea.

absolutely, doesn't make sense you have bickel and haley playing together.. no need to have 2 fighters.. boyle should and needs to be playing, makes the team better, great defensively, faceoffs, pker..

Bottom 6..

Miller-boyle-pyatt
Powe-Halps-Haley/Asham

or..

Pyatt-Miller-Powe
Boyle-Halps-Haley/Asham

5 wins straight with him in lineup, scratched, we lose, back in, we win. Coincidence?

Correct. Bickel over Boyle in any situation is just dumb.

I still don't like Boyle as 3rd line center. 4th line center or bottom 6 winger who takes important face-offs.

To me, he is an elite 4th line player and a guy who can fill in on the 3rd when needed. If Miller or whoever else can keep him off the 3rd, that's better for the team. But he needs to be playing every day, for sure.

Actually, it's quite valid. Boyle plays a pretty big part on our PK and our defense. Scratching him in favor of scrubs like Bickel is just an idiotic move.
I agree, but I'm not ready to attribute this win or yesterday's loss to Boyle's presence/absence anymore than I attributed their 3 game winning streak to Boyle being out. That was an oversimplification then like it is now.

I have been wondering out loud why a Pyatt-Miller-Powe line would be better than a Pyatt-Boyle-Miller line for a while now. Glad Torts made the change.

I don't contribute the entire win to it, that I agree. But it's obvious the guy should be in our lineup every single game unless he's injured. Perhaps the benching set a bit of fire in him, because I thought he played a hell of a game today. The penalty was ********, too.

Agreed. Boyle looked like his old self today. I was so pumped when he scored. We need him to play like he did today more consistently (not scoring, but his faceoffs and forechecking ability)

I agree he is a good 4C and better than Bickel by a mile, but the last stretch of games he sat, they won. He came back and they lost. So, it's hard to say with any conviction he has much to do with wins or losses on a nightly basis. He is a contributor, but not a guy the team lives and dies by. That's currently Rick Nash and Henrik.

Agree with all this.

Boyle can play on a 3rd line in case of injuries and stuff but he belongs on 4th line. Probably our best PKer and one of the better 4th liners in hockey.

An elite fourth line player? That's an oxymoron.

It's hard to dislike Boyle, as he does give everything he has. Wish he had enough talent to go with his physical stature.

Not an oxymoron at all. In the context of a player playing on the 4th line, he is very good.
He played quite physically today, and as importantly, he did something with the puck, which has often been a real challenge for him. Witness his carrying the puck to the goalmouth. I'm not saying he is a great finisher, but often he forgets what he is capable of and does not play to his potential.

I wouldn't say it's an oxymoron, but it is a little like being a really tall dwarf or a really hot ugly chick.

And after a quick glance through this thread I would disagree that it's hard to dislike Boyle. If if is, people are sure putting the effort forward.

Not happy that, in the Senators game, his replacement was Bickel, but I don't disagree with the decision Torts made to scratch him. He wasn't engaging in the play. Boyle is at his best when he's using his size to separate defenders from the puck. He was getting in on the forecheck against the Caps as well as he has in any other game this season. It made such a difference in the performance of our 3rd line. If Boyle is playing like that every game, the Rangers are a much better team than they've been thus far this season.

dont forget last time he was scratched and he came back and played great for 2 games then started sucking again. lets wait and see how he plays a few games from now.

I'm as big a Boyle booster as there is, but I gotta agree with Tort's. He's had a lousy year. Missing most of the elements that made his game effective in the past. Good to see him do well today. Hope he can keep it up.

He's good on faceoffs, that's about it. he should always play over Bickel, a garbage can should play over Bickel on wing and said garbage can should also double as the SO goalie when Biron plays net.

For every good game he has there's 3 terrible ones to replace it.

I'm starting to legitimately think the only reason boyle got anything done offensively was because of prust.

Boyle is going to be useful when he's put in a situation to suceed . PK / face offs / 4 th line limited minutes.
Shut down center role : NO
18 min a game : No
Expecting him to score : NO , that season was an anomaly with tons of puck luck and bad goaltending . I'm not sure if he could pivot well enough but not sure why he didnt try and make it in life as a defenseman at 6'7 ? He actually has a good slap shot when he can get it off .
