Value of: Brent Burns and Vlasic at the draft

Do you think the Sharks would be open to trading either of their high profile dmen at the draft? For a re-tooling club that's not expected to win now, it makes no sense to have 3 high profile dmen eating up that much cap. They would get pretty good returns for either dman. I could see the Jets having interest in Brent Burns.

neither D returns anything of value. San Jose needs to either retain 50% or take back a cap dump back. Thsts without factoring in trade control they might have.

thise teams will take Weber first. Hisactual salary owed us much much less.

Yeah, there's whispers about Vlasic getting a buyout according to Friedmann in a recent podcast, so good luck finding takers for him. When I read the title I thought your idea was to trade Burns with Vlasic's deal attached for nothing just to dump it, but beyond that sort of trade not happening in the NHL, Burns wouldn't have enough positive value for it to work either.

They both have been that bad? I think either would be a strong addition to any win now contender.

Are you from 2016 and somehow got lost in 2022? What is high profile about Vlasic in 2022?

He's been SHIT for 5-6 years now.

Vlasic certainly has. Burns has been okay, but he's not a 26 minute defenseman anymore, like he's still continued to be used as.

Vlasic might have the worst contract for a defenseman in the entire league and he's sucked since even before getting that contract.

it’s not player rep but their cap hits are brutal. No cup contender can afford them. Both contracts are llong.

After Burns gets bonus money next year some team might be interested because she’s paid less than cap And us only 3 yrs long. New team it’s about $12M over 3 yrs in actual money.

if he had just 2 yrs left I might have some interest as a vet mentor to Power. Thst third year is a problrm.

Vlasic is getting bought out likely, and with that change I doubt we move Burns right now. They did say at the trade deadline that rebuilding the defense is going to be a priority. The Sharks brass picks a position or two every offseason, changes it and swears that will fix something.

If someone was taking Vlasic off our hands I’d let them. I think I’d prefer to buy him out than retain though. Burns on the other hand I’d be very open to trading. Before getting Kahkonen, I was thinking to DAL for something around Faksa and Khudobin but that wouldn’t work now.

The Sharks would definitely be able to find a taker for Burns with a little retention. Vlasic truly is that bad, if we were able to move him without giving up assets I would be shocked.

Burns could be excellent in the right situation. By that, I mean on a team who has a hard-minutes top pairing already, which would free him up to be a pure offensive #3D. If you’re in that situation, trading for Burns retained for not too much value could be a home run. But I would caution against rebuilding teams trading for Burns to be a mentor; I just don’t think he’s that player. He’s gotten away with a lot of bad fundamentals over the years because he’s just so big, strong, and ridiculously talented, but I wouldn’t want a young defenseman (like Owen Power, for example) to be trying to emulate him. Burns is a one of a kind player.

Vlasic has been terrible, Burns is probably just a bit overpayed. He is still pretty good and playing huge minutes.
Seriously? i highly doubt anyone wants him or three more years at 8mil...
At 8 mil, no. At 6.5 mil with a contract coming back, yeah they would. Burns is still very easily a top pairing level guy.
I doubt there is any teams. And still say top pairing is well, comical at the least

Is Vlasic bad for his contract or bad to the point of not being a national hockey league defender?

Plenty of evidence shows he is. He's just not a guy you treat as a bona fide number one but if you have a balanced top four, he can contribute quite a bit to it. But please go ahead and provide an actual counter rather than just whining about it. He's still producing at a 50+ point pace. That puts him around 15-20th among defensemen. Yeah that's still top pairing level without any worry from people who just look at age and contract and assume stupid shit.

Move Burns to forward so the defensive liabilities don’t completely destroy what little value he has left. That’s the only way he can be salvaged IMO.
