DeBoer comes here and it will be more "oh yah I can do this, this is what I bring." and it doesn't happen and we'll freak the heck out.

Also. NJ couldn't win a shootout this season to save their lives (0-11) and the amount of 1-0 games and 0-2 games either way is kind of ...suspect. you can argue they didn't have the horses for offense but still.

Not sure the great D played by the Devils can be credited to DeBoer. The Devils have always been exemplary on D because Lou won't hire a coach that doesn't adhere to the NJ scriptures. You play D first and whatever you want to do for O after that is up to you. It also comes from a history of ownership not doling out big contracts and thus, the Devs have lost blue chipper after blue chipper to free agency over the years. Lesser talent can learn to play tough D a lot easier than can learn to be elite scorers.

Don't rush guys, take your time, develop them right.

Leafs fans want heads to roll every other month, a winning team every season, ten Stanley cups and a full out draft rebuild every other year. It's not the owners fault for giving fans what they want in exchange for mountains of cash, they are the good guys.

srry ,,, but nonis listened to his bosses and now the team sucks, they are all blaming me,,,, for signing phaneoof,,,, and NO PLAYOFFS. i'm no good as a GM,,, I SHOULD OF NOT TOLD THEM THIS TEAM WAS A COUPLE OF PLAYERS AWAY FROM BEING CONTENDERS.

if i would of went with burke i still would of made alot of cash.

If he didn't have a C sure, I find he does perform better when playing less minutes. I just think he sort of let everyone down and himself an I'm not sure he will be able to bounce back. He may actually request trade in this case.

Johnny's right too, you can't pay dion that much and expect him to do little without ruining the payscale.
 
Overall, I like this move.

Nonis and co. are obviously in over their head in terms of evaluating players and signing contracts. In fact, they actually show just how astute Burke was.

I expect Shanahan to get rid of Carlyle which immediately eliminates our biggest issue and indirectly force Nonis/Loiselle/Poulin to not live in some fairytale land where they're "one more away" or "one gritty leader removed".

The only issue here isn't even related to this hiring, but instead the fact that Nonis still has the title of GM.
 
Bet ya if Shanny laced em up he would still out perform Clarkhole in all departments.

Well remember when Jovo used to be seen as a big deal in this league and then he drifted off into retirement land in Flo.

Dion painted this target all on his own. Heh I have 49 million reasons not to feel bad.

Trouble is this core is building a reputation but it's not a good one.
When Burke got here we were a bad team. That's ok though, lots of teams lose their aging core and get bad. Lots of teams run their course and have to trade away the aging players and rebuild. No shame in that. Somehow though, we have gone from understood bad to a choking joke. This is not progress. How can the fans trust another losing slide next year and when does sliding become common place to the players? That's why some of the core needs to change.

You know what, I could see this being a case of Nonis being a puppet, I could also see Tim running the show behind getting the big FA in Clarkson. I could see that because of optics. It's Tim's MO.

Shanaban will be legit in control because Tim will have learned that he is dumb under the above scenario.

your wrong about nonis,,,, carlyle wanted clarkson and bolland and orr and mclearn.

nonis and carlyle really thought this team would be a playoff team..................

nonis convinced tim, phaneuf was worth the money when we were in 2nd place and the team was legit.....................tim bit.:laugh::)

everyone will watch the leafs again

merchandise will be sold again

mlse will get richer, with ticket prices going up:nod::)

leafs winter classic would be sold out again,, over 100k leaf fans
 
In the end I don't want to give this that much credit. Probably out of being used to this team never actually doing anything right. Maybe it is just a think to get people intrigued and less angry.

I just hope though that it means something positive. If Shanahan can bring something that will help turn this team into the right direction.

Will just have to see I guess.
