'we're in no man's land and need to rebuild'
'let's keep our veterans and waste the next 4-5 years, only to then realize they're old/useless'
'even better idea'

Believe me, I wouldn't want to trade Gally. But it's what needs to be done. We all know Bergevin is dead-set on keeping both Price and Weber because they show leadership qualities to the young ones, etc. But Gallagher is at the peak of his prime years. We can get a nice haul that will expedite our rebuild/retool.
This is exactly what the Rangers should have done with Callahan instead of adding 2 firsts for St. Louis who told them NY was the only place he wanted to go. What a horrible trade. Trust me, it will hurt, but not as much as watching the ghost of Brendan Gallagher goung through the motions in year 4, 5, and 6 of an over priced deal as he falls to the bottom of your depth chart.

I said it before and i'll say it again. I would hate to trade Gallagher but for the right player i would highly consider it.

Check out his possession stats.
That's it? I'm sorry, but that's not enough reason to keep him. What the team could get for him in a trade now is worth way more than what he can provide in the next few years. Keeping him will do nothing to help the Habs in the long term, and the team is nowhere near contending, so his contributions while he's still a good player will be wasted.

So habs fans magically know their players value better then anyone else and other teams players value because apparently YOU KNOW that this is a fair trade. Hard eye roll dude. You are so cringe its causing me pain. Dont @ me again unless you are going to bring intelligent conversation. until then just keep being a joke in silent. leave me out of it.

Personally, I would trade Price (untradable), Weber, Petry and Tatar way before Gally and Danault, to keep them as mentors for the young guys.

I really don't understand the stubborness of MB to keep his wrong side of 30s veterans, supposedly to assure transition for the young generation. In fact he keeps them because he secretly hope to make the playoffs (and try to rebuild(ish) at the same time).

Weber never passed the 2nd round comes playoff time and Petry always been on sub par teams, what experience can they pass upon the young ones that Danault and Gallagher can't?

The only thing that habs brass strategy of not commiting to a true rebuild will do, it's to maintain the team in a ''in between'' situation where they're not strong enough to compete for the Stanley cup, and not weak enough to get elite players at the draft.

A situation habs fans have known too much for the last 27 years.

For some reason I thought his new contract already had a year on it...

He had a ton of value as a rental but now people probably view him more as a cap dump tbh...

Same thing here, with Caufield Anderson Armia, we can trade Gally for upgrading C

Gally is great player, great leader but his contract is too long for his style of play, his 2 hands are in bad shape
if you know it, you can be damn sur the other 31 GM know about it too. Therefore, what do you think his value is?

So what? If at some point he can’t play, his contract will be put on LTIR. However, as of now, he’s still the heart and soul of this team. He isn’t going anywhere and I hope that now that Danault and Tatar are gone, he gets a more offensive role. Let Lehkonen, Armia & Evans takes the defensive responsibilities.

Drouin - Dvorak - Gallagher?

he deff lost value because of that contract but cap dump...cmon now hes still a 30 goal scorer that gives 110% every shift

By "people" I meant the average HF poster. I'm curious who will offer anything, people are too afraid he'd be the next Lucic, Skinner, etc.

For us, it's good until he falls apart. Unfortunately he has a history with his hands as well... but as Habs fans we all know it's not his shot or pretty dekes that gets him goals.

If you're going to bump a thread this late after and when a player is on a new contract, can you at least provide some details on the contract?

I just looked it up and he's getting 6.5M X 6 starting this season, if anybody else was curious.

Generally speaking habs fans watch the most habs game, logic right?
Considering this, I think it would be normal to think they have the most accurate assessment of the players they watch most...
Gallagher is still a very good forward right now, he was injured in the playoffs and given defensive assignments.
It is expected he won't be as good for the entirety of his contract, but we'll cross the bridge when we get there.
And when we do, there might be multiple options including the magical LTIR...

I dont particularly care what you feel hes worth or what he'll get. I'm just saying what I'd give up for Gallagher as a 1 year rental. If that's not good enough then so be it. For him to come to the Oilers with no extension in place, I ( a random HF boards commenter) would offer our 1st in 2020.

Ps. Its not wise to make comparisons to players in completely different situations. Gallagher is clearly better than Kapanen but Kapanen has 2 years of contract before being an RFA, Gallagher has 1 year before UFA. Kapanen isn't the comparable but theres plenty of comparables that return more than a 1st. I'm just saying that's my offer. Sorry for getting involved in the forum.
Run along. Your late 1st would be laughed at.
